If you can confirm it runs, the case hasn't been overly polished, and you can look up the model number online to confirm its not a redial I'd say go for it.

The 45xx movement is one of the finest series produced movements of the late pre-quartz era. They are generally extremely accurate, the only downside is that their higher beat rate can make them more prone to long-term wear issues than other Daini Seikosha movements of the same period, and if you ever need spare parts there are no cheap lower end versions of the movement you can canibalize for spare parts, so buying spares won't be cheap.

My King Seiko 45-7001 has been excellent since I got it from another anon who posts in these threads a couple of years ago.

Easily the best movement finishing you'll see in the industry at their pricepoint. Boring designs, but they are executed fairly well. When I handled a few in person the external finishing didn't look cheap, just boring.

Their more expensive DUW movement powered watches are pretty neat, and they get bonus points in my eyes for investing the significant money required to develop the capability to design and manufacture complete movements in-house (which is a very expensive proposition to do fromt he ground up in the post-quartz era).

The new inhouse stuff is intriguing and the movement finishing is best in its price point but I will never for 2 reasons:
1. They look much better in pictures than in person. This goes for a lot of shit, sure, but it's never hit me as hard as with this brand. Truly lackluster when held in hand.
2. Stasi bitch ceo forces her workers to attend workshops to force them to accept musilm "refugees" in their neighborhoods, basically tutorials to prepare them to be more accepting of the inevitable rapes, tax hikes to pay for gibs and all the crime and other heinous shit that's followed unchecked immigration of 3rd worlders into first world countries all over Europe and the US.
Bitch could have stayed out of the whole virtue signalling bullshit and just focused on making watches but noooooooooooo, that apparently was too much for her and she was compelled to meddle in the political lives of the factory employees and the surrounding region. Thought Crime is not allowed at Nomos, and you have to accept unquestioningly the care and feeding of Achmed the 32 year old "13 year old" after he rapes and mutilates your daughter, ditches the body and is acquitted by a lefty judge because "he didn't know raping, torturing and murdering women woz wong sowwy :( that's what we do in my culture don't be cultural insensitive you racist!!"

I guess it depends. It doesn't happen to me because I have watches for different purposes. One thing you could do is put an explorer on a leather strap and it's your "dress" watch, while your Omega stays on a bracelet and it's a sports watch. Or vis versa. I have a Seiko shitter that I wear most days, a ProTrek when I'm in the mountains and want an altimeter and a vintage JLC for when I'm dressed up for some reason. I've been considering an Explorer I to replace the Seiko at work and in social settings and keep the Seiko when I'm in the wood shop or gardening, working on the car/house etc.

Obviously you could do all of the above with an Explorer or an Omega Seamaster, and a GPS but that's a different mode. If you are a one watch person than just keep the Omega for it's sentimental value and give it to your kid when that happens.

An independent watchmaker should charge around $150 to service a three hander movement.

>should i take it to my local seiko boutique?
Vintage watches should *never* be brought to a jewelry store or authorized repair centre for service as those places do not typically have the knowledge of how to work on vintage watches. Most will refuse outright, but even those that will accept will usually end up replacing parts left and right thereby destroying the originality and value of a vintage piece.

For vintage watches you need an independent watchmaker with experience working on vintage watches. You'll have to use Google and message boards to try and find one in your area.

If you don't do your research first? I'd but your odds of getting ripped off at about 105-110%. The vintage watch world is FULL of crooks looking for low information buyers to pawn off hunks of shit on.

Before you even consider trying to buy a vintage watch you should be doing enough research into the model(s) your interested in to be able to independently evaluate their condition, originality, and market value for yourself. A used one I'm assuming? If it keeps you happy then go for it, but if you're spending $150 on a new parnis diver I feel like you'll get twice the watch if not more out of an Orient Mako 2/Ray for $30 more and you're not pretending to own something that you don't.

>>15014561
Parnis watches just use unregulated Chinese clones of Seiko, Miyota and ETA movements. I've heard people say decent things about their bracelets (though that glide lock mechanism looks like chincey garbage from your photo if I'm being honest). The $144 you're spending on their website is getting you at best a decent bracelet on a totally junk watch with a knock off of the lowest end automatic Miyota that Citizen group makes. They don't even use a real 8215 like they advertise, and that's a movement that wholesale is like $14-$20 unregulated and they won't even use a real one of those. I'm not saying you need to spend an arm and a leg on something you don't like, but if you're going to get Chinese junk, at least get better Chinese junk than that. If you're happy with it, do whatever floats your boat but I'm not interested in pretending that Parnis isn't total garbage for the money. Literally Invicta pro-divers put those things to shame.

I just genuinely feel that if you're already spending $130-150 on a Parnis, spend a little more and get a Tissel, Phoibos, Orient, Seiko, literally anything else in that under $300 price range. You'll get a watch that will last you significantly longer while still being a fairly inexpensive purchase. Under $100 and a Parnis/Lorier isn't a bad purchase but if you're spending the $130-150 they go for new, you're just so much better of spending just a bit more elsewhere.

Not the guy you're responding to but you can admit that most modern (i.e post-ww2) art is fucking garbage without throwing the baby out with the bath water.
There was good semi-original art movements even up until the late 1940's. It's really only post WW2 that things have really gone to shit with the few remaining shreds of good art coming primarily from homages to previous artistic movements such as the 21st century revival of neoclassicism (neo-neoclassicism lmao), and neo-minimalism , neo-brutalism now with plexiglass etc. I actually kind of like movados as just a piece of something on your wrist but they're not particularly functional watches if you care about more than just a hyper-minimalist but conspicuously consumerist aesthetic. Basically it's all the aesthetic sense and status signaling of an Apple watch but none of the utility.

Literally any watch that's not talked about by a rapper unless you consider 3/4s of watch enthusiasts to be normies too. Most normal people barely know anything more than Rolex, Fossil Group, Casio, Citizen and Movado. If you get anything else from H Moser to V.C. to Lange nobody will know what it is except for watch people and you'll have parted with enough money to make a deposit on a cheap house.
