Okay, here is the collection I’m making. All sub $1000 but IWE all start somewhere:
Orient Kamasu Black
Tisell Bauhaus
Vostok Komandirskie Hexagon
G-Shock GW-M5610
Dan Henry 1964 Panda
Baltic Aquscaphe Blue
I think it’s a good balance of form and function and I’ll upgrade it over the years (Kamasu to seamaster, etc)

I really like the Kamasu and Baltic but I think they'd be pretty redundant for mine. I already have an Orient Mako 2 with an aftermarket sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel and a Zelos Mako V3 which would be a more or less replacement for each of those. I guess I'll just admire the Aquascaphe from afar because there's really not much reason for me to buy one on top of the 3 divers I already have.

Dan Henry panda isn't a bad choice at all but whenever you get the money you should definitely upgrade that to either a Maen Skyraider or a Hamilton Intramatic panda if you can afford the €800 for the Maen or $2k for the Hammy. Auto-Chronographs are just works of art over when compared to Quartz/Mecha-Quartz.

How do you deal with your impulsiveness or lack thereof in falling for and buying a watch?
I have learned that if I don’t act on something straight away, there’s very little chance I’ll ever buy it.
Sometimes this saves me a lot of money when I talk myself out of buying some Swiss shitter I would probably have gotten tired of pretty quickly.

Now, after the previous thread, I’d like to get a Dan Henry panda. It looks like a fun watch, it’s not a lot of money to me, but in a few days I’ll have lost the urgency to order it, even though I’d probably enjoy owning it.

Agree to disagree, but good for you man. If you like the appearance of the DH more then that's 1-2 grand you don't have a reason to spend. Personally I think the DH is far too silver/chromed and prefer more of the matte white/eggshell that the Maen and Hammy offer but if you like the silver more then rock it and don't worry about it.

Deep blue is basically a homage brand and makes very high quality pieces at their price point. The Maen Skyraider is more or less a Daytona homage and offers quite a lot of value for the price. Tissel is nothing but homages and are pretty consistently recommended here because of their build quality and reliability in the under $500 bracket. Phoibos started out as an homage brand and their PY007 submariner homage is still one of their best selling watches and they are some of the best divers you can get under $500 as well.

None of these brands have the same level of prestige as the watches they are making homages to, but at usually less than 1/10th of the price you're often getting very respectable pieces which is why so many love them.

i have around 35 watches and i think only these three are over 500 dollars. ironically the most expensive one is around 1000.

thoughts? i have a sleek silver and stanless steel case and band Eco-Drive put aside but that might end up being too daily to be the silver dress accompaniment to these.

If you mean by modern Quartz, then you're sort of right but also very wrong. If by modern watch you mean smart watch, definitely not. Quartz watches are actually generally more susceptible to interference by magnetic fields than mechanical, but they have the advantage that magnetization of the movement largely dissipates on it's own and the watch will return to normal accuracy time keeping once removed from the field.
Mechanical watches on the other hand are generally less susceptible to magnetic interference, but the mainspring will retain whatever magnetization and impact the ability of the watch to keep accurate time for significantly longer periods of time, often permanently impacting the timekeeping ability of the movement.

Tl;Dr the reason you don't see modern quartz watches advertised as antimagnetic isn't because they perform any better under magnetic field but rather that they are much less likely to be damaged by exposure to magnetic fields. A quartz watch will keep terrible time and have its hands fly all over the damn place under magnetic flux exposure, but they generally will return to normal a little while after leaving the magnetic field whereas your mainspring on your mechanical will have a much harder time demagnetizing hence why magnetic field resistance is a point of importance.

Leather straps that are cut to be tight to certain watch cases do exist but generally you see them being sold by the company that sells the watch or you have to do a lot of trial and error. Ones that are as tight as a bracelet with end links generally aren't sold by aftermarket companies because most leather watch straps are going to be replaced within a year or two of wear anyways. Making one that is specific to the shape of one case drastically reduces the versatility of an item that is not particularly expensive/profitable as it is. It definitely looks better without a large gap, but I don't see the market expanding to ones that are that tight unless you really see major profit margin increases on them (in comparison to the $20-40 you see for most watch straps today) or one or two watches becoming 80% of the market the way Apple watch and Galaxy gear are for smart watches.

>> No.14996358

>>14996328
Makes sense. But since they are rare, aftermarket bands could be sold for more money, specifically for the watch. And the company could ask a higher price.
My experience with leather is, that i wear my bands longer. 3 years and still not fucked. One is 4 years old but i used leather care on it to preven it drying out and cracking.

Yeah, it definitely could be a potential market for more tightly tuned straps, especially for the more common brands you see out there. Congrats on being able to make your leather last. Seiko is older than Rolex and has a long history of horological achievements. What you meant to say was 'prestige', i.e. marketing, not history.

That said, in the last 5-10 years Seiko outside of GS has basically decided to start trying to emulate the worst characteristics of of the 1990s and early 2000s Swatch Group, so they aren't deserving of much of a vigorous defense anymore.

I don't really see much point in directing disapproval towards Sternglas though and it seems not particularly well thought out. Tissel has basically the complete price advantage of having basically no design expenses or Western marketing expenses which doesn't surprise me that they end up spec-wise as a better buy for the money. Sternglas on the other hand has nearly 30 German employees on top of their Chinese supply chain, so it's really unremarkable that dollar per dollar you get better technical specs from the company with no Western employee overhead.

Bauhaus furniture was designed to be simple and cheap for production but the bauhaus meme made it possible to market it as expensive. Makes sense now. In germany the weather is not really hot only in summer and rarely. But when i went on vacation, my bands got some more sweat and i wore a metal band. So i can fully understand why you had to change them often.

I like Bauhaus, or at least Nomos. I’m saying that the man defines the watch. Not the other way around. I wear >>14997607 about half the time

Not a fan of Tag, except for the Monaco. And the Rolex date just, my first choice looked like a waste of money when the Tudor 1926 cost 1/6th and more or less to the same specs.

I don’t think you’re gonna find a brand new 7750-powered chrono for much less than a grand. If all you want is a three hander with a white face, sure, get one from alibaba for five bucks.

Yeah, true. I don't like nomos, it doesn't appeal to me. But you seem to like it for what it is, the looks. But some other people here like watches for the wrong reasons, in my eyes. And i post like a butthurt faggot so they drop the dumb shit they heard from marketing. Or even better, understand the manipulation they been fed and don't spread it.
>>14998226
I was talking about sternglas. You can buy a chrono if you want. But be honest to yourself. The love to bauhaus is not the motivator here. Watch itself looks good, company has story, quality stuff and the markup is low and the stuff produced in china is minimal or none.

Sure dude, if you think that don't buy the fucking watch. I don't really care about Bauhaus and don't really have much motivation to spend $400 on a watch with mineral glass and a Miyota 8215a, so I don't have much interest in Sternglas but you're kidding yourself if you think Tissel is any different. The Tissel has better specs but you're talking about the same garbage but even worse because literally 0 Germans get paid for the Tissel whereas at least Sternglas pays someone in Deutschland.
