A good tailor can make any of these; period movies and tv shows are a thing, lots of talented people work on such productions.

Modern movie productions are terrible recreations. I can see you don't actually know about real tailoring. You need a classically trained person to do these with really old patterns.

I don't think it's a case of the tailors being bad at recreating older clothing it's more a case of the movies try and modernise older fits like making them more snug and more aesthetic to a modern day audience which leaves the tailors with little experience of actual older style clothing.

The lapel size is the main thing, although most don;t differ hugely, the biggest difference is in high street fashion suits with a super skinny lapel alongside a skinny fit.

Yeah but what was the average weekly wage then. So while 17 dollars back then would be 280 dollars today, that would be affordable with maybe a full weeks wages.

BUT the average weekly wage could have been 8 dollars back then meaning it would take 2 full weeks wages to pay for the jacket so technically you could rate it as costing as high as 560 dollars today.

They didn't. As a rule of thumb you should wear a hat only with a suit; it's the safest choice and makes you choose the colour and silhouette based on your general appearance. Your pic related is a suit that was rarely found outside of cinema. Don't ask me what the style is called, I forgot. But then again, it is not too late to change your game, anon. If you look like every zoomer out there, start by wearing some nice white collar shirts, the most versatile piece of clothing closely followed by white tshirts (which are underwear).

Where does one go in a suit nowadays in the midwest?

>wear a suit to latin mass
>literally have nowhere else to go
>stand out like a sore thumb at the mall, at the parks, even at old memorial sites
>only have dingy pubs with dudebro war vets to go to for drinks
>bank jobs/commission jobs suck
>can practically see the world judging you at hyper speed anywhere you go

why doesn't the world try to look nice anymore. The only place I felt I fit the area was when visiting the graveyard

You could tone it down a little. Go for what was then considered leisure wear. Like these two. Suits back then were also part of a job or a socio-economic group. So if you weren't rich or didn't have some middle-class type job, you probably wouldn't have worn a suit.

And if you're more into 1950s you could also look into youth fashion. It started to become different from main stream fashion at the time. Nowadays youth fashion = main stream fashion, thus way more acceptable.

The average person now has little to no respect for themselves. I wear what I want and take their baleful glares as jealousy. Most normies will never understand what it means to have taste.

Such feels, anon. I worked at a corporate level, doing liason with lobbyists and gub-mint agencies. Dressing well was S.O.P. Made some bucks, got burned out, left that gig. Moved back to small town flyover, where no one wears a suit, not even to church anymore. Zoomers wearing pajamas, gopnik style athletic rags. county bumpkins trying to act all gangsta with baggy pants. Stacies and Karens wearing yoga pants and uggs. Guys in flannel shirts, or t-shirts with sports logos (or camo) and jeans.
No one cares about proper dress or style. Can't even find decent clothing without a major trip to the nearest "city".
People equate "dressing down" with freedom, with the attitude "nobody can tell me what to do! Freedom, fuck yeah", and they dress like shit to prove it. When you do dress well, they look at you as if you are from another planet or something.
