It's time to admit he was right.

You haven't proven Hedi wrong. Bateman wore classic suits, with classic, albeit gaudy accessories. We never see Bateman in clothes that aren't classical suits, except for the scenes where he's either naked, or barely naked. Thus, proving Hedi's point.

Bateman cannot exist outside of the realm of classical suits, and being naked. He'd look goofy, out of place. Face the facts: You cannot be fashionable if you are not thin.

>>14962471
Versus Rick, who connects fantasy to life really well and is one of the best patternmakers working right now (and who still designs his entire collections himself, and makes his own patterns).

This isn't to say I agree with him about this (I get where it comes from though) or want a body like his (I'm very athletic but slender, don't like putting on muscle mass I won't use)... people look good and work with their aesthetics a wide range of bodies IMO and policing and setting people's bodies against each other like either Hedi or Rick in these quotes are bad. Different styles work for different bodies, none of me, Hedi, or Rick would look good in what Andre Leon Talley is wearing here, and he wouldn't look good in what we wear.

Almost everyone can wear Hedi. The misconception that only skinny people can is just incorrect. There are different cuts of pants for this reason. If you want to dress Hedi, then make sure you wear clothes that elongate your body and is visually slimming.

>WWD:Any predictions about the next big look?
Hedi: I would need to be back in an atelier to answer you.…But we should drop for good this predictable story each season, about a lean and youthful male figure versus conventional men’s wear and male proportions. There is obviously room for everything.…Besides, an athletic man, or whatever you want to call him, will only look good in a very classic suit, a pair of classic jeans, athletic clothes or simply naked. Forget fashion. This is not going to happen, unless you want to look like a Chippendales dancer in designer clothes.…And by “fashion,” I mean men’s fashion at the same level as women’s. This is what I always pursued during my design years, defending the idea of men’s fashion rather than men’s wear.

Tons of opportunities to wear what Hedi has created. He creates more than just stuff on runway for men. Sure it might not be "fashion", but his men's wear is still very sexy.

What I'm saying there isn't about the topic of this thread exactly, it's about the way his clothes are cut and fit. Not that they're slim, there's really well cut slim clothes made to fit bodies (golden example: Devoa) but they're not, they're made to fit an image of a body.

In a different direction, you could look at suits with a ton of shoulder padding the same way, if that helps what I'm saying make sense.

>If that was the case why the fuck are there so many copycat brands out there that spawned as a result of his work at Saint Laurent.

Hedi's SLP being the hot thing was... numerous cultural shifts ago.

Hedi's deal as an artist is mining and reproducing a replica of a very moribund, but very culturally stubborn among people who can't adapt creatively to this world, vision of sex and charisma and pleasure. This is not controversial; Slimane cops to it but he thinks it's good obviously: literally lines about nostalgia are printed on the clothes and show materials for SS2020. (See https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2020-menswear/celine for a critic explaining and explicating all this.) Like "replica" garments, it's cheap and chintzy and degrading to everyone involved. So is fast fashion, which also sells well. There's a thin line between all of these things, visually physically culturally. All of them want to package impossible experiences and sell them easy to people caught in the wastes of late capitalism who can't forge their own way to a fuller life than what's foisted on us. Hedi's stuff just does it with fancier fabrics and a greater refinement and laser focus of an aesthetic at a higher price point.

You can't look at pic related and tell me that looks like 2020.

You'll have to elaborate, because I'm not understand exactly what you mean. Tried looking up Devoa, but still didn't get it.

>Hedi's SLP being the hot thing was... numerous cultural shifts ago.

I'm just going to compare Hedi to Devoa just because you brought that brand up. Hedi's clothing just cannot be surpassed by Devoa when looking at the big picture of society as a whole. Hedi taps into the status quo and designs clothing that most people want to wear. Devoa won't be on the red carpet, but Hedi's clothing will be. This isn't to say Hedi is superior artistically, but he is superior in society's eyes. He knows the rules, and he plays to win. He understands the current zeitgeist. That is his greatest strength. The reason Hedi continues to do what he does is because society demands for it. The majority of people aren't interested in the niche, nor the experimental. They want to look into the past. I agree with you that the difference between Hedi and fast fashion/vintage is the precision, material quality, and strong identity. Hedi elevates what fast fashion makes. This is what people literally want.

>See https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2020-menswear/celine for a critic explaining and explicating all this.

Critics are really irrelevant now. They were there to condemn Hedi and said he would fail at Saint Laurent. Surprise, surprise. They were loud and proud declaring that Hedi was disrespectful for removing Yves when they don't even know the historical roots of Saint Laurent's ready-to-wear line. Their bias is so transparent.

Fashion critics are disgustingly subjective in their criticism, yet try to pass it off as objective. It still baffles me why they were sucking Hedi's dick at Dior Homme when he was being inspired by previous decades in later seasons. They should've called that shit out for not pushing the envelope. They didn't because the accepted view of Dior Homme and Hedi was that he was untouchable. The narrative was set. Hedi could do no wrong at Dior Homme. Whereas the narrative was set from the get go before Hedi's first show at Saint Laurent and the narrative has continued. Hedi's always been doing the same thing, critics are hating because it is accepted to hate on him. I'm actually surprised you place weight on critics when it is proven again and again that their views do not represent what the market wants. In the past, they were able to influence and dictate the market, but that power is now long gone for them. They're just a form of archaism now. Tons of critics applauded Raf Simons' work at Calvin Klein...and guess what happened to that. They are out of touch with reality.

Reading her piece:

>It will also inevitably catch criticism for his casting—there were only three black models on what appeared to be an otherwise all-Caucasian runway.

Hmm...I wonder why she conveniently neglected mentioning there was also 1 Asian model. This is because it weakens her narrative. She's so transparent that it isn't even funny. She tries to pretend she's not the one doing the criticizing...pathetic.

> That lack of diversity might be a preventative to this Celine collection speaking as widely as it could across today’s generation. But somehow the habitual narrowness of his focus missed the inclusive way that kids see the world today.

Couple of key things. Society hasn't shifted enough yet. Celine isn't just any brand, it is a French brand. That is its identity. A certain type of customer is attracted to this type of identity, and they're not the ones that are interested in seeing non-caucasians being the official face of the brand. One of the largest markets for them is Asia. Asians see brands that take this type of approach as higher class and more refined. I can't speak for black people, but I'm guessing black people who are interested in expensive French fashion want to be associated with the story of something that can elevate them. This is just people's psychology, the grass is always greener.

The ones who complain about lack of diversity, and lack of inclusiveness are loud, but they're not speaking with their wallets, so they are ignored. Simple. I'm not saying what is right or wrong, but I'm saying the market dictates everything.

No, they wear sweatpants and hoodies, which according to all the female-centric memes I've seen lately is apparently super attractive.

I got mine from a local beltmaker, around 20mm in diameter. Look for small shops and stuff, most mainstream brands sell oversized belts that look out of place with more formal trousers. Also make sure the belt loops are small as well so the belt doesn't swim in them.

I'm almost this lean and never do drugs. I don't even eat particularly well, I'm just conscious of what i'm consuming and do a lot of cardio. People really have no idea how much fat they can stand to lose, it's not benefiting them in the slightest.
