From what I hear, Sinn has some shoddy QC and ass-backwards customer service. How do we feel about Damasko, tho? Are their hardened metals a meme? I love the DS30 and DA36 and was already looking for a thin, light daily. Shame about their boringly german dials.

What you said about sinn also applies to damasko.
Look up that one guy that got rust stains on his case and bracelet and the factory denying all responsibility, then backtracking and "fixing it" because the guy complained on a forum for all to see. The end result still lookslike shit, and last I heard they've left him hanging. On WUS, damasko's own forum no less there unless it's been deleted.
That being said, I think that their hardened metal is legit. In theory, it's better than sinn's surface coating.
My own damasko looks the same as the day I got it despite many bumps, scrapes and drops over the years.
If you're in the US you're in luck because the dealer for damasko there is able to do all servicing meaning you don't have to send it back to germany and deal with cunts.

Sleeping with watch on is a bad idea. The watch must also come off when showering, or moisture will get locked behind the body or strap & give you a fungal rash. Which will spread to all sorts of places where you scratch yourself.

Also why would you sleep with watch on? It's not like automatics are gonna self-wind, unless you're a sleep-gesticulator or something.

I was sitting in a theatre next to some chink with an IWC (I, being based, was wearing a 2019 limited edition penis quartz GMT Grand Seiko) and even though I was a less than a metre away from him I could not tell if it was fake or real. Judging by the fact he had Harrods bags and I saw him at Gordan Ramsays restaurant it must have been real. The IWC was no discernable workmanship to see where as it was obvious the grand Seiko could not have been faked because it is just made better. If it didn't have an IWC on the dial there was no way to tell this was a watch costing thousands.

I just got this and am still toying around with all the watch faces and the customisation. I gotta say I'm pretty fucking dissappointed with the complications (the little icons on the watch face) they're all pretty basic and primitive.

The only good one I've found is a complication that shows tides in good detail, as I'm planning to start beach sea fishing soon

What the hell do you get in a $30 fake R***x that makes it worth even wearing? Surely the bracelet makes up like 1/3 of the manufacturing cost already, even if it's grey market (QC reject, 4th shift, etc). Also the glass is awful.

Relatedly, how does /wt/ feel about the Invicta 8926OB "homage", compared to other poorfag automatics? Just how hard is the stigma of wearing something unironically that's specifically made to look like a hojillion dollor watch (particularly "brand R"), but isn't?

I had that homage watch and returned it because it felt cheap and it is cheap. The Malaysian movement (assembled and cased in Malaysia) NH35A works pretty well, but I don't see it lasting more than 2 years before it starts breaking down. It uses some cheap mineral glass and has poor lume.

Thanks, that's what I figured. For $70 it sounds real nice, even if it's kinda bad, but the real value proposition over here is like 100€ and I could get a V*k, a couple of nice straps, and a bottle of upmarket vodka with that. And I kinda wouldn't want to appear the wanker wearing an expensive watch lookalike, even if it's not genuine; easier to fit the russian shite in with existing countercultural themes ("lol, tank dial"). Spose I'll take a closer look if I see one in person.

Define too thick.
Archimede makes a 41mm and 42mm chronos with a 7750 at around 13.8mm thickness, normally watches with that movement are around 15mm. Different subdial layouts, too.

>> No.14957814

Pretty sure you can use common sense to define too thick, if a watch looks like a hockey puck with a strap it's too thick. Do people really not know what a normal watch is supposed to look like?

Also, this has the design of a wall clock.

>> No.14957828

There is more to wearability than thickness. I have a 43mm and a 40mm, both same thickness. The larger one "fits" better, the smaller one is about 4mm too tall for what it has and makes it all look off on the wrist. Also strap choice does a lot.
If you want a mechanical chrono you will have to accept some thickness, or you will pay out the ass for some in-house haute horlogerie piece or Bulgari. Otherwise meca-quartz or straight up quartz chornos, but Im guessing those are out of the question for you.
IWC made some slim chronos I think.

I want to buy an automatic since all my quartz ones are shitters that go through batteries like they are smarties. I have a gold Casio A168 which is my main watch and I love, but I want something idk, "flashier", more formal I guess.
These are my wishlist entries, I scribbled out the non-automatics. The one I gravitate most towards is the Invicta Pro Diver, thinking of going either the silver/gold/blue version or the gold/black one. I have no idea if two-tone(silver w gold) is considered tacky. I have tan skin so gold is much more of my color.
Opinions on Orient ?
And any experiences with these Lucien Picards ? They look nice and are cheap, which raises some red flags about the quality.

From what I gather after visiting their website, they are a typical a dime a dozen microbrand watchmaker that sprung up in the last decade, each playing upon a niche heritage. In their case italian styling and...whateverthefuck. They commissioned a bunch of cases to China, bought a bunch of movements (made in China or Malaysia), slapped them together (in China), got some straps "Made in Italy" if at all and are now selling watches that cost €70 to make with €10 movements for €400 and those with €50 movements for €1000.

Their designs are gaudy and not at all Italian stylish/european chic.

Watch sucks. If you're going to have GS, you gotta have a Spring drive. The white dial on that also sucks balls. Two strikes against it IMO, and i love GS.

Your wrists and skin completion are just gravy to your lack of taste.

The dial is fine. Not the best of the GS dials, but it's fine.

Some people actually like how the cheap shitter looks like. I have one too and love the small proportions. The dial is pleasant to look at. The example that you posted, well the dial is actually not so nice, looks generic and hands and markers look strange. Not criticising your taste, just wanted to show that some people like how the shitter looks.
Most get it because it's so cheap and they can throw it away and treat like crap. But i treat my watch nicely and trying not to scratch it.

What is your problem with other peoples wrist, I haven't brought the watch yet, not my wrist shot.

I have Rolexs and Omegas already, I would like a 5th watch but something a little cheaper honestly, i have £15k in watches and at this stage I'm trying to keep the collection cost down, I have other comitments. If I was going g to spend 4k on a used snowflake I'd just buy something else with a stronger brand, rolex, omega, navi or superocean, revrso.

A 9f can be had for £1200-1400 used and I can bit at that, something easy, I have plenty of watches to service. I think the white dial is more special than the black and I have 2 black dials already.

I meant two guys on the back of scooter with a knife will love to try it on.

I would not be walking through London with a AP ffs. Rolex 100% nope and even omega. Oh and no one cares what watch u have, they just read the time off their phone.

I'd say you just need to get away from the working classes.

It's trolling, but they're also serious. I've been wearing my Amfibia unironically for 8 days now, and it hasn't stopped despite me being a keyboard jockey all week. It's kept time to like +4s/d, which seems like it's gonna get a lot worse. Probably could get a worse Seiko for twice the price. The Russian militaristic themes are also counterculture as fuck for maximum troll appeal.

Tim Mosso. Guy seems to have a photographic memory of watches, model numbers, movements etc. Check out his Weekend Watches videos on the WatchBox Reviews channel. Typical 20 to 30 watches he shows off in various price ranges and talks about in detail. Sure it's meant to encourage sales but an amazing amount of information.

Roman Sharf if you want no-nonsense videos about buying and selling watches.

I've lived and worked in London for almost 10 years and worn AP, Rolex, PP etc all the time and never had a single encounter and neither has anyone I know. Obviously I don't go hanging out in shit areas but even so all those scooter theft stories are vastly inflated. I can't even remember the last time I read about one.

I have 2 mates it happened to (2019) 1 had a sub date stolen at knife point and the other had a yacht master blue dial taken by a scooter gang. Just because you never saw shit mean nothing. I would say they are inflated as well to a point. They were in good areas when I happened. The news doesn't report on them now plently of other shit to report on atm, they are still happening tho and I heard of another one happening when I was at rolex dealer last week.

They were just happy they didn't follow them home

Too big, too dumb. Its a faux estonian vostok selling tasteless shitters because russians didnt properly trademarked "boctok" or some shit.
