This thread is about the appreciation of quality horological devices of the wrist worn variety. Also start the new thread sooner than old one gets burried in archive you lazy twats. This is worse than Tudorfag thread splitting.

Putting a v8 in a VW golf isnt cool, its gay. Putting a explorer ii bezel on a seiko is gay. Modding high end stuff is for brain dead retards.

Taking into consideration last thread's feedback I've adjusted the the options. So what looks better? B or C? (or option E?)
Is a red bezel and a red dial too much? It'd look like the example 020 (next to blue one).

Recap:
Want red dial watch, red dial watch I want hard to find. Vostok cheap.
Parts: favinov dial (gradient red, C3) + C3 luminova gilt arrow hands. Meranom gilt chapter ring, red bezel.
Alternative: fuck the gilt parts, go all silver.

Why not? I got it as a daily beater because Zelos makes pretty rock solid tooly pieces for not super crazy high prices. I like using the dive time bezel to time my rests and how long I've been swimming or in the sauna. It seems the 24h model is going to coax you into a snafu more than once until you get the hang of it. Just get one for cheap offa ebay, no need to feed the pre-modded sellers money you could be spending on an EDC gasmask instead. Unless you foresee yourself being in a submarine or nuke shelter for extended periods of time, 24h is an accident waiting to happen.

>> No.14949619

I like 24hr watches. Russian calibres without a quickset date are pain in the ass. Keep the damn thing wound.
I've noticed with my two meranom 420SE's with the 243X movement: the arrow hands model has thrown me off a few times because of the wide flange of arrow head. More than once I've actually been an hour ahead or behind than I thought I was because I was reading it wrong after a quick glance whilst in a rush. It's the small indicies on my model that don't have numerals or pips, just a thin bar. Now I make sure not to rely on an quick glance.
The sword hands variant I have never gave me problems, nor did the old 24hr aviator with fat sword hands I got a decade ago.

What >>14949593 said, there's a learning or unlearning curve in getting used to a 24hr dial and your perspective of time will change when you have the entire day laid out for you visually. If you already have conventional watches, it's a nice change and there's just not much available in 24hr form. Most of it is slavshit.

>Its so much cheaper to manufacture Powermatic-80 style escapements that the Swatch Group can offer better initial accuracy ratings than the regulated balances being replaced, and not worry about all the possible long term issues because those escapeements are cheap enough to make that replacing them at every service would likely be cheaper than spending a skilled watchmaker's labour on fiddling with them. Powermatic-80 movements, specifically, are just thrown out and replaced when the watch is serviced for that reason.

Yea that explains it then. Every watchmaker is guilty of charging considerably more for gold parts than their actual melt value as far as I've seen. Lange charges a few kilodollars for a gold deployant buckle for example.
Also small scale alligator as the inner lining is great, Did that for both of the custom straps I've ordered.

I like the AT, don't get a GS as your first watch maybe 5 or 6, they are to thick for there styling, I think most people recommending GS hasn't saw them in person (I've been to GS main Ginza store) the AT can be hard to read in some lighting situations due to the small amount of lume. Go see it in store, I like the black dial 38mm, The new seamaster is probably better buying, if you like it.

Railmasters fake lume is a showstopper, AT is the better watch.

Anybody get disillusioned after seeing expensive watches in the flesh?
I guess a lot of the beauty and craft is in the movements, otherwise not seen in a boutique window, but other then that, from what Ive seen recently:
>TAG looks like absolute chinesium trash that should be labeled as any fashion watch brand for half the price at least
>Tudor has nice crisp details, but are still yuge, except the BB58, the only one I liked was the North Flag, otherwise they are boring
>Hublot looks like it was solely made with real estate in mind for diamond inlays
>Frederique Constant is so classically boring, it may as well be from Aliexpress or Seiko
>Same goes for some Baume/Mercier models
>Cartier seems like a very niche brand, somehow didnt find the sizing that would be JUST right
>Hate to admit it, but Rolex really has a lot of very subtle details that make (some) models stand out as quality products, I dont get the ladies versions or the bi-metal ones, then there is the price

The great search continues.

Saw this model with the black dial/silver hands in a boutique and almost started laughing out loud when I couldn't see the hands and indices until I rotated the watch just right to catch the light. Polishing too much and the angles on the hands not conducive to catching the light. Lighter dial models were fine. Honestly the only brand that does hyperpolished hands and indices right is GS, where they're angled in such a way as to be able to reflect even a tiny bit of light in a darker room.

>> No.14953476

If it doesn't have the other brand's trademarks on it, it's not a replica. Call it a clone or something; those are always to be looked at on their own merit, but from a strictly value POV (imagine that, on /wt/) you're always losing something because the brand spent time and effort on imitating another brand who've sunk the R&D costs already.

They look pretty nice to me. It's hard to come up with something original and not have it cost hundreds of thousands. What comes to mind in modern watches that are very original and well designed are the Octofinissimo and Lange watches. That's about it. I mean, it's a watch and if there aren't any complications it's very hard to make something new and innovative in terms of design.
If you want something special and out there you're best off with independents. But like I said, they usually cost a ton of money.
