Vacheron Constantin
Since 2010, Vacheron Constantin has seeped into rap lyrics with 10 mentions by musicians, including Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross. In the 2017 watch-laden track, “Iced Out My Arms,” DJ Khaled was “‘Bout to swap the Patek for a Vacheron (switch it!).” The name drops have come as a surprise to the Richemont-owned company as “we are understated and not bling and not something we do actively or with intent,” said Laurent Perves, Vacheron Constantin’s chief marketing officer, adding that the business is only aware of a shout-out after the music’s release. “If they talk about us,” he said, “they know us,” although he wouldn’t confirm whether they were clients. Mr. Perves added that he does not know of any direct effect on sales as, he said, there has been no feedback from the field. Yet, he said, “at the same time, it is something organic that we shouldn’t try to control.”

Has anyone had luck getting a Tudor BB58? I have talked to a couple AD’s and heard different things.

One told me that I could put down a deposit, and they are not sure when it would come in(hopefully within a few weeks to a few months).

Another told me that if I came in and put a deposit down, they would have it in within 6-8 weeks.

A third said they are not able to order them from Tudor, and there is no point in putting down a deposit, but they took my name and number and will call me when one is available (they said hopefully February)

Which one of these sounds right?

Pic related is the OS I regret having not bought. It's from the last era of orient stars that actually looked good.
That and the variant with the PR indicator on the dial from a decade ago of which I bought a black IP coated one which of course I fucking regret like every PVD'd watch.

I want a red dialed watch. They're pretty rare:
There's the Rado golden horse ltd ed; the rarely found JLC reverso with the burgundy dial that's a boutique exclusive; the Maison Celadon Imperial Red and its poor cousin from the Beijing watch co; an Oris Big Crown Pointer date with the red dial.

That OS is never found on the used market, so Vostok seemed to be the best deal for an inexpensive red dialed watch that'd I'd probably tire of in short order to return to my regularly scheduled black and white.

Do you guys actually use pic related to remove and restore hands?
I watched a vid where the guy removes the hands with a pocketknife blade, and besides them flying off somewhere in the room, it seemed to turn out fine. Do you want it to be stylish and in now but only last you a few years or are you looking for something timeless and conservative that you would want to give to your son 30 years from now? Pretty much every watch can be worn with a leather strap, are you expecting it to come with one or do you want to buy a better leather strap afterwards?

In principle, yeah. There'll be a day when the cheapo press will wear to the point where it's not as nice on the hands as a swab tube. Maybe it's better to save your money for a timegrapher instead? Or a nicer set of pinch grabbers, whatever their name is?

any other bedroom dwellers that are into watches here? i have some money and im trying to decide what to get as my first serious watch. i can't decide between automatic or quartz. obviously, if i was spending a lot i would buy automatic, but considering my lifestyle quartz would be better choice. if i bought automatic i would either have to wear it at home or manually wind it up every day since i leave my home rarely. has anyone been in my situation, what did you end up doing?

I have an on/off interest in watches and have settled on quartz for day to day. I have a few automatics still but I love the reliability and practicality of quartz.

I really like the set it and forget it nature of quartz.

I would start with quartz and go automatic further down the line if you want to.

Hamilton's are nice. They aren't really anything special when you look at what you're getting for specs and the price, but they have a pretty solid build quality for under a grand and a consistently American design language being entirely Swatch group at this point. It will probably be rugged enough to last you a while before needing to be serviced and I think the design is conservative enough that it will still look good 20 years from now if a bit plain.

The only thing I don't like is that my wrists are very rounded and their lugs are generally fairly large. I can wear a 44mm Seiko or citizen and generally get away with it because the Japanese tend to keep the lug to lug under 48mm, but ~40mm Hamilton's almost always have a lug to lug ~50mm and it just looks bad on me personally. If you like the fit, awesome, wear it and don't let people give you shit over it.

My cheapest watch is a Swatch Sistem 51 that I got opened but unused in the Czech republic for 1800czk. It was also my first automatic and runs very well (usually within +4s/day). I wore it every day for almost 4 months straight and basically ruined the leather band with my sweat, and am now too lazy to try and find a decent aftermarket alternative to the cheap junk Swatch band that it came with. Still sits in my box and I'll wear it every once in a while but the strap is super uncomfortable.

The most expensive watch that I wear is my Sarx055 baby snowflake. I know people don't really have a ton of respect for the mid to high end presage lineup, but I haven't found much in that $800-900 range that I like more than the titanium sarx for a slightly dressy everyday beater.

A few reasons, I have saw the original go for £1000-1450 and maybe I'd be better if with it, the engraving on the back triggers the shit out of me, the new seamsater wave dial is a better value proposition with more features. I have 3 omega already and looking to get into a Rolex. I saw it for £4500ish in Leeds new and now its 6k+ everywhere so maybe I should have. You can till get centre secs new, small sec is the way to do.

A good example of the original centre sec for £1250 sold, you'll be better of with the original and your money will be safer as well. Not to say it won't go up but I doubt it. Good luck bro!

No problem. I would say the biggest thing to really watch out for is the pit between $1k and $3k. There are a few brands who really shine here (Sinn and Damasko are basically the kings of this price point but some low end Omegas and Longines and even higher end Hamilton/Tissot can be good here as well), but it's best to avoid having too many pieces in this price bracket.

At $1500 you're spending enough money that unless you really have a lot of expendable income you can really lose your shirt but you're not always going to get something super well made and worth that price point. It's very easy to say "I'll never spend 10 grand on a Rolex" and then find yourself spending 12 over the course of a few years by buying 6 or 7 $1500 watches that are just expensive enough to really make you want them, but also be able to really hurt you if you don't pay attention. Under $200-500 you can kind of play around and experiment without fucking yourself long term (within reason of course) but you really want to be careful if you're talking about stuff that's the next step above that Hammy you have in price. If you're not you might end up 2 grand in the hole on a mostly Chinese "60% Assembled in Switzerland" watch you'll be lucky to resell for half that over an impulse buy and some FOMO from a YouTube video.

I hate to unironically quote AC3, but unless it's cheap enough for you that you consider it disposable, don't buy it unless it hurts enough that your justification is knowing you'll still love it 30 years from now.

Just got my Vostok. 420 case w/ tank design. With a 18mm black-and-red nato strap on it, it feels quite comfy and I'm adapting to its weight very well. Had a couple of issues at first with winding it -- it does need some 20 full revolutions of the knob, then it starts putting up resistance, then the resistance goes way down and you're full. I wish someone had told me this before, or that it said so in the manual.

Accurate to 4s/d so far, per Watchcheck over a couple of hours. We'll see what happens as it winds down and sits on a shelf overnight. No nickel allergy symptoms so far.

>thoughts on vostok special editions? pity theyre all sold out.
I've got three of meranom's with the 2431/.01 calibre that's a 24hr movement.

Note about the special editions:
All non classic vostoks have only factory made movements, everything else besides perhaps the seals and the crystal, are imported from china.
Wether this has lessened quality or increased it is a matter of debate, it has nevertheless increased the product range for the better beyond the classic vostoks, komandirskies and amphibias. Dials are more spartan clean IMO.

I recall reading about someone that went onto a Russian forum where the notion that WR was poor on the meranom models. 4th hand anecdote for you there.

Notes about mine:]
First one fucked up somehow when I was changing the time, apparently this can happen with any vostok movement, and usually a sharp smack gets them going. Mine didn't, so I put in away in a bag against the day I could be bothered shipping it back. Ordered another that seems to still be going fine.

6 or 7 months later I fished the first, faulty one in the bag and was surprised that it was ticking (?) It's now three minutes fast and I'm unsure about it's power reserve, but it runs. Wtf?

Third one hasn't arrived yet.
I'm fond of the 24hr dial meranom has, because the stock dials on the regular edition vostoks is fucking shit and nowhere near as legible; for a 24hr hour movement watch the dial has to be supper legible and not cluttered. Also I wanted the 420 case which wasn't available on the none SE models.

I only have one classic edition amphibia, but compared to my functioning 24hr SE (the one that didn't just die and revive itself for no reason) its inner lugs are much smoother; the functioning 24SE has fucking sharp lugs.
Chinese case QC? Or no different from Vostok general QC?
Dunno. The resurrected 24hrSE has smoother lugs too.
