I see people here often say they never find anything thrifting.

It's funny you asked about thrifting with that picture, because I found sportcoats just like those two (a grey double breasted and a cream single breasted) at Goodwill. On the same day even.

first two questions depend entirely on your current wardrobe and style. I look for items that I am lacking in for the upcoming season (sweaters for f/w for example) and I avoid t shirts. I hate the look of graphic t shirts, the point of thrifting shouldn't be to look like you thrifted it imo.
I've thrifted or vintage shopped for my entire closet, so I've found.. everything.
I go through phases where I'm really into thrifting and have a lot of free time. and also phases where I don't feel like it or I'm busy. sometimes I go as often as 3x a week (to multiple stores) and look through essentially every item there.
I used to prefer goodwill's in middle class neighborhoods for ease of finding good quality garments. however goodwill has slowly been raising their prices so much over the years that now I prefer to just pay a little extra and go to a curated vintage store. if you live in a flyover state these probably don't exist.

Agree. I would like to expand my closet in a cheap way but in my area there is really nothing. Goodwill never has anything but ss and 2xL, and all the vintage shops are womenswear. Sucks.

1: I look through most things, but I go to t-shirts then jackets first as those usually have the best items
2: there isn't much you should avoid at the thrifts. just look around in places you wouldn't think there would be stuff and there might be stuff there.
3: I have found a lot while thrifting. a whole lot of single stitch tees of various things (art exhibits, music, shows, etc) , nice jackets, vinyls, posters for my apartment (mainly art ones but have thrifted a few band posters) , and a synthesizer.
4: I go thrifting about once a week now, but I used to go more often before.
5: the best thrift stores are the ones in the middle of nowhere that no one knows about. there's this one in some random town near my parent's house that i've gotten an n64 for $5 and a ton of band tees.

Thrift stores in wealthier areas and trendy cities are goldmines for nice vintage clothes even though their prices are higher. You can still find really good stuff elsewhere but I usually have to scour the place.
I go less than once a month but most of my wardrobe is secondhand. My favorite thing I've found is an old ralph lauren nightgown, lol

>> No.14930082

I mainly look for leather jackets and collared shirts with vintage patterns.
If the fit is too off, I buy oversize and have a tailor adjust it afterwards.

I don't buy any pants or t-shirts as I find that the basic ones from uniqlo or similar brands to be good enough.
Depends for footwear.
I found really awesome shearling coats for 20 bucks.
Beware not to go thrifting too often or you'll end up with a dozen of jackets.

Why is Miami Vice so based? Something what zoomer can't understand. Probably best antidote against zoomer fashion shit.

>What do you look for?
Fuzzy jumpers, OCBDs, jackets and shit

>What do you avoid?
Pants, generally. Besides being a little weird the selection is usually poor, people hold on to good pants.

>What gold have you found?
A bunch of stuff. Aran jumpers (it's Ireland so ymmv), a harris tweed blazer, lots of good quality shirts. A bottle of Penhaligons Duoro the other day. I got a YSL shirt for 10 euros the same day, actually.

>How often do you thrift?
I'd hit each store in my vicinity maybe once a week

>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
Ones for good charities, with a good book section. It's become a bit of a hobby and I have far more clothes than I could ever need but I can't stop scowering

>What do you look for?
I search for specific items I want or need at the moment, or just look around to see if theres anything cool.
>What do you avoid?
I don't know if they even sell them at thrift stores, but I would never buy used socks or underwear. I also avoid t shirts, but I don't wear t shirts outside the gym anyway.
>What gold have you found?
Almost all of my OCBDs (White Nordstrom, Blue Ralph Lauren, Yellow Tommy Hilfiger, Pink tattersall Tommy Hilfiger), a Ralph Lauren navy blazer, some great sweaters including a cream cable knit and an argyle v neck, several sportcoats including a grey fleck tweed, a brown Ralph Lauren houndstooth, a khaki blazer, a cream sportcoat, a double breasted glen plaid, a double breasted grey sharkskin, and a double breasted Hugo Boss navy blazer. Plus some ties from Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Robert Talbott, Christian Dior, and Nordstrom.
>How often do you thrift?
I probably go at least once a week.
>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
Usually chain ones like Goodwill, there aren't a lot of independent ones in my area.

>>What do you look for?
Everything essentially, if it's good I'll take it. about 95% of my wardrobe is thrifted. Only things I buy new are underwear and socks.

>>What do you avoid?
I tend to skip on thin fabric clothes like shirts. I stil have a lot of them, but they're usually really worn out, moreso than sweaters or jackets. I also rarely buy shoes 2nd hand because they're often worn to shit or garbage quality.

>>What gold have you found?
A weird flannel/leather jacket I have never found a similar one to, closest thing is in pictures from the 70's/80's
Handmade leather shoes that were part of a folk-costume and therefore rarely worn, worth around a 150x when bought new than what I paid for them.
A real Stone Island sweater, in good quality .
While not really gold, still one of my most useful finds was at a garage sale where a sneaker collector was selling all of his "low quality" stuff to make space in his closet so I got Converses, Reeboks and 2 pairs of Vans for 10 euro.
>>How often do you thrift?
A few times a week, I'll pop into my favourite one on the way back home from work or go on a tour of all of the ones in my area on a saturday afternoon by bicycle.
>>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
It depends really. Salvation army and other charity shops are the cheapest but also often the lowest in clothing quality, although sometimes some good stuff falls through the cracks. Church shops are good because every wealthy elderly christian that dies donates their clothes to the church shops so they're full of high quality prepcore brands. For profit 2nd hand shops are obviously going to be expensive but they do know how to pick their stuff, almost everything in those places is a nice find.
Visiting all of them is just your best bet, if you have the time for it and enjoy doing so. I visit some shops so often they're starting to treat me like a regular and we'll have a little chat over coffee.

>What do you look for?
Wool or clothing (should start to look for linen as all my summer clothes are at least some plastic)
>What do you avoid?
Anything thats plastic, has logos, is from fast fashion company
>What gold have you found?
YSL wool pants, 100%merino sweater and jumper, norwegian wool fjord sweater
>How often do you thrift?
1-3 times a month i will go through like 5 stores in my city
>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
if it looks trashy and ugly outside its usually same inside

>> No.14930676

>What do you look for?
dresses with interesting patterns that aren't too loud and home decor. I've scored some nice statues and foreign tchotkes
>What do you avoid?
shoes. thrifted shoes are always beat to shit. also I never thrift rugs for obvious reasons
>What gold have you found?
a wooden doll from a japanese island (forget the name), gold plated crane wall hangings, a cool peacock statue, corset backed long dress with small floral pattern
>How often do you thrift?
not too often, once every few months usually
>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
I prefer locally owned (usually more interesting finds since the inventory hasn't been picked over as much), but I will ocassionally hit up goodwill

>What do you look for?
Petty much everything in my wardrobe except pants and shoes is thrifted.

>What do you avoid?
anything damaged or stained. big box store brands since the discount isn't very cheap for 2nd hand.

>What gold have you found?
Holy shit what haven't I found
Allen Edmonds Manchester penny loafers that cleaned up really easily.
Harris tweed blazer
Lambskin Motorcycle jacket
Lot's of really solid button up shirts
also found a YSL blazer at my local place but I wasn't thrilled about the color so I didn't cop.

>How often do you thrift?
Once a week. There's a few shops within a mile of my place. Get usually one thing a week depending on what i'm feeling.

>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
I usually go goodwill or value village. really quality stuff tends to get overlooked at the ones i've been going to. never have much luck at vintage stores in more populated areas.

A lot, at least one lap around town per week

Kilo sales, more curated 'vintage' style places

Nothing in particular.

A few leather jackets and non-/fa/ housewares.
>How often do you thrift?
Whenever I'm bored and decide to do so.
>What kind of thrift stores do you prefer?
Goodwill. My local store is huge and very well kept. There used to be a lot of thrift shops in my area and I scouted them all out, but the rest were either overpriced, dirty, or looked like hoarder houses full of totally disorganized junk.
