The most interesting and fascinating fragrances are unwearable. This is the plight of the niche. Trex is staggeringly unique and realistically visceral. An experience, something that shocks you. But it’s unwearable in public. Eventually you realize that the impression on yourself is what’s most valuable. Coomers can’t grasp this and it angers and frustrates them because they don’t like to be reminded they are knuckle draggers

Depends on the lady. The window girls in Amsterdam usually not because they’re high volume and usually aren’t showering between clients (if they even have a shower in their kamer). I do have a few regulars who I know are hygienic, so I’ll sometimes do it with them. With escorts, if they’re high-end, usually I will because they’re probably only getting a few bookings a week and, I mean, having pussy in your face and a hot girl wriggling around and moaning is pretty hot.

>You probably need to know this, scent friends. The long awaited IFRA 49th Amendment is out in January, but as I'm a member I've seen it, and read the 39 page summary. There's the technical data still to go through so we can recalculate everything we need to get our safety certificates,
We've been waiting for several years to find out what the result all thousands of safety tests have been, and it's going to be interesting.
There are new cosmetics regulations from the EU (and these will apply everywhere, for all international companies, including ours, not just the EU). These take into account that people might use a shower gel, then a cream and then a perfume, all of which have safety limits, that that piled on top of each other, they break them.
This cumulation of irritants in essential oils and the occasional synthetic is the reason that people sometimes spray on a perfume and think that the perfume makes their skin sting, while it could be that it was their shower gel that was close to the limit, and the perfume just pushed it over the top.

>Anyway, what does it mean for us? All new fragrances released must comply by new regulations by 10th February 2021, and perfumers have until February 2022 to reformulate all the current ones. The biggest hit for me that that my beloved opoponax is now named on the allergen list, along with jasmine and ylang ylang. The good news is that mandarin essential oil has been found not to be photo toxic.

>Over the next couple of years you will see a lot of discontinuations, and those which aren't discontinued will be reformulated. You'll find that most perfume sales people will still deny that this is happening, because it is terrifically complex, so they find it easier as an industry, particularly in the UK where sales training is mostly based on flim-flam, flattery and froth. (Except when Olfiction are doing it.)

A friend came back from egypt. A salesman managed to get him to buy some bottles of scent for his gf. But it was a 3+1 deal and he got a bottle of papyrus scent for himself. I must say that I got pleasantly surprised by it. Do you guys have any fragrance with papyrus as one of its main notes?

They don’t legally have to follow the IFRA. A lot of small Indy houses don’t. The problem is, if you don’t follow IFRA regulations, you can’t sell your products in the EU (or at least all major retailers won’t carry them), so it’s essentially mandatory as Europe is one of the biggest markets for fragrance, if not the biggest.

Doing exactly this right now. I just checked Nicolai's website thinking of stocking up on New York Intense too, and she raised prices by ca. 40% apparently. I was telling you last year that it is bound to happen. Still good price/quality ration imo and I hope everyone who wanted to get their bottle managed to do it cheap. If I was about to make one fragrance prediction for 2020's, it would be that Nicolai will complete getting their shit together (they've already done a lot of marketing/rebranding - old Nicolai's bottles were really random), scale up and become another Frederic Malle-like big boy in the niche game.

T-rex is a tough one. Smells like a burning forest fire with a metalic note. It certainly is interesting and well crafted but very difficult to wear outside in public. I'm mostly familiar with CdG, whom I would think veer a bit more toward niche. I don't like a lot of basic designer stuff because I feel a lot of it smells like generic "cologne," by which I mean mass-appeal scents for the sort of people who use the term "cologne" as a catch-all for men's fragrance. I'm curious about the idea of "perfume as art" when I'm otherwise more familiar with the art of language (in literature) or visual art (in film). I figure a bunch of 2mL samples can't be too hard a hurdle to overcome.

So I don’t want anyone calling me a shill. I “shill” so far as share awareness of the brand that is does deserve, being innovative and novel. Bee is fucking good, rhino is fucking good, squid and hummingbird are pretty good. That’s not shilling that’s fact. I’ve sold my nasomatto I’m only keeping pardon and baraonda. Unlike so many other forms of art/media, to experience fragrance you actually have to experience it in person, and in a completely direct and all-encompassing way). You have to literally smell it to get it. This means there's a big divide between people who have and people who have not experienced it. Also, the vocabulary around fragrances is a lot less developed for a lot more people.

I think Antaeus is just way more well blended than Kouros. The animal funk is definitely there but it just ties everything together. I still thought Antaeus smelled like straight diapers at first. The decant was presumably from a modern bottle though (maybe this is why performance is wanting?)

Received niche samples for the first time.

Creed: GIT>Aventus imo. Both sharp fragrances and I can see the appeal of Aventus but it's just not doing much for me. Both are safe and I couldn't see anyone really not liking them.

Tom Ford: Tuscan leather is gasoline, crisp leather with a hint of sweetness. This sweetness is amplified in the dry down when the leather looses it's edge. Almost leans feminine in the dry down. Enjoyable fragrance but It doesn't scream ultimate masculinity to me like some say.

Tobacco Vanille: I hate to like this one but I really do. Smells like a dirty ash tray and delicious vanilla. Rugged but sexy. Probably wouldn't buy this but love it.

Oud Wood: Yawn

Tobacco Oud: The one I would buy. Sweet but undoubtedly masculine. Pipe tobacco, sweet incense maybe just a touch of oud, it's hard to find with my nose. Versatile enough to be worn in any occasion imo.
