All chronos at that price point are bound to have a 7750 movement, which is about 8mm tall itself, add some domed crystal, anti-magnetic inlay and the thickness builds up quick. Damasko DS30 is a three-hander that is less than 10mm tall. A larger diameter DA36, however is already 12.3mm. The DC56 chrono with the same movement as the Sinn is 13.8mm tall.

LaCo for the classic german pilot watches, Stowa for a more modern and elegant touch, Aristo for a cheaper package while retaining the original case/lug shape.

High end watches are not like cars when it comes to value retention. It's very hard to make money trading in watches but they are a great assets to regard as a "value holder". Ignore the current hot watches you get in any market, they are just short term fads. In general with Rolex and Patek you are guaranteed to not lose money on those, even on their less popular models, if you keep them for enough years; in fact for many of their models you'll typically make a small profit. Pretty much every other brand, like new cars, will depreciate the instant you buy them new - some brands worse than others. However unlike cars if you buy them second hand at the lower depreciated price then they will keep or increase in value the older they get.

Back when this film was made if you wore anything but a dress watch (in those days just called "a watch"), you had a good reason for it.
You were either some kind of professional and even then you wouldn't be wearing your work watch, all beat up to shit, to a social gathering.
Wearing a diver's watch with a suit would garner looks that weren't complimentary and you'd be considered a real weirdo.

The fact that larping manbabies have done this so much that more and more of them deem it acceptable annoys me. And it only gets worse and more gaudy as time passes with clueless cunts wearing ploprofs or seadwellers some shit with a formal business suit which makes them look like utter tools.

I've seen too many subs and especially semenmasters (right after a bond film release go fucking figure sooooo original "how did you ever get that idea to wear that?") in business settings that it's all so tedious.

Connery didn't own that watch. It was one of the producers or directors. They just took it off their wrist when needed coz the costume department fucked up. The first watch bond wears in Dr. No is a Gruen dress watch. That might have been Connery's own watch. You're right about Fleming though. So bond should've been wearing an explorer ("1"). The sub makes more sense considering Bond's a naval commander though so by a serendipitous twist the watch that was made iconic by his character, though not the one he was supposed to wear, was the one that made the most sense in the end.

>At least 40% CHINA MADE
More than that.
The guidelines changed in 2017 to 60% etc,. etc., every one should know that story by now. A perfunctory gesture.
The fine print goes something along the lines of:
>60% yes, but we will allow things from "countries that have a long history of ""close industrial cooperation"" with us to satisfy the "Swiss" portion of the requirement as the parts have been certified as equivalent quality.
(or some shit)
Implying neighboring cuntries like Germany who used to be the watch industry bitchboy when it came to machining cases, bracelets and other grunt work until the China undercut
>copecuck: "well, at least it's euro made lol"
no
Turns out the only officially certified "close, friendly buttbuddy making equivalent quality parts" is Hong Kong.
lol HK companies just get shit made in China.
Swiss Made is a con and you can only go on trust.

>copecuck: oh but it doesn't matter as long as the quality is good!!!1

as they blubber out of their mouthginas.
But it does matter. It was sold to you for a high price with the notion of "Swiss Time", which has over the past century morphed from being a joke into being considered the paragon of timepiece excellence. An intangible that adds value to the deprecated shit you bought. You paid for this intangible. Turns out you didn't get what you paid for, and when you don't get what you pay for that's called getting ripped off.
>copecuck: oh but I don't care.. mai waif bought me this/i rely liek design etc.

Thought experiment:
Look at any mid to lower-high grade swiss watch and ask yourself
>would I buy that watch for the advertized price if it said, clearly and boldly, "MADE IN CHINA" instead of "Swiss Made"?
more power to you if you proceed with the former, but odds are that you won't glad to spend thousands on something 100% made in china.
As an intangible it's worthless.
And the con that is jewelry is all about intangibles, so at least try to get what you pay for you dumbfuck.

Why would you pay 1000+ for a watch that extremely resembles ANY chinese microbrand shitter that costs 5 bucks to build and is sold for 10-150? Not to mention the parts were probably built in the same factories, only those that passed QC were sent off as MADE IN GERMANY, or SWISS MADE, the rest is Gucci, MK, Daniel Wellington or any other chinese no-name brand garbage.

Dont get memed.

Those specific atomic and solar quartz calibres are unique to junghans; they're probably that brand's sole claim to ingenuity these days but like you said, who the fuck buys them for that price?
You know who?
Germans.
Germans buy the following:
Junghans, Sinn, IWC and Chronoswiss (for some fucking reason I swear they're the only market keeping that brand afloat).
The providence of the cases, dials and hands I'm not sure of, but as far as the movements go they're in-house (but quartz so no one gives a shit).
I heard, a few years ago, that a business magnate from the town where the junghans factory is bought the brand and pumped in some money. They might produce their own cases++ but who knows? There's a couple of german case makers and at least one dial making specialist left in that country. Though "Made In Germany" is even more worthless than "Swiss Made" >>14874076 ,
The only protected German designation that matters is having "Glashütte" on the dial.

Lange sued Homos back in the day for not being Glashüttey enough. Nomos cleaned up its act (but is still fucking gay) and about 10 years ago in turn sued Muehle Glashütte, like the bullied little loser that picks on someone even weaker than them to feel better, for the same reason, bankrupting the tiny family run firm.
Damasko is run by clueless cunts and the less said about Sinn the better.
Fucking Germans.

I wanna know about this, homie. I know Sinn keep their best memetech for their higher priced pieces, but still ask great amounts for basic bitch watches. I thought Damasko was cool? Except some customers reporting shady practices when it comes to customer service. I thought long and hard about their AIRPLANE and SUBMARINE steel memes, but decided to say fuck it and went the casual quartz route instead.

Just as an example, the DS30 doesnt need an extra layer to be antimagnetic so is thinner, the DA36 looks a bit nicer, but is larger and taller, and heavier of course. All in all, their designs are sharp, crisp and clean, but ultimately german and boring.

And lets not forget the €600 bracelets (D) and €500 (S) sapphire crystals.

My friend, you've came to the right place.

I'd reccomend an Omega Speedmaster Professional Man on The Motherfucking Moon.

>flight-certified by NASA for all manned space missions
>goes with every strap ever
>manual wind for maximum connection to the timepiece
>can tell your tinder dates that your watch was worn on the moon (best to do this while you're still in the restaraunt and not at your place or you'll be hosing her girlcum off your furniture)
>comes with a spacesuit strap so you can LARP as a spaceman
>loved by reddit and /wt/ alike

The only downside is that it's 42mm, so you'll need to invest heavily in premium quality chocolate and high-fat coffee to maintain the high body fat percentage needed to maintain a suitable wrist girth.

>I thought Damasko was cool?
It is but it isn't: it has very good points that allow it to stand above the sea of shit that generally flows out of ""europe"" at that general price point, but it also has issues that would make me stay my hand as a prospective buyer.
>Except some customers reporting shady practices when it comes to customer service.
There's more probs than I'm comfy with considering it's a small brand.
eg. one guy got rust on his
>€600 bracelets
and spechul icey case shit.
And dumbassko wouldn't do a thing about it. It required the intervention of, surprisingly, one of the cuntier WUS admins (as if it were possible to be more of a cunt than a typical large-enough-to-shill-for-the-industry-forum mod), who managed to get D to even look at it, and this was only after the buyer went on WUS and posted very publicly about the company's stunt. The mod prides themselves on having a lot of german horological connections and being, specifically, chummy with D itself so he spoke personally with konfag dumbassko and finally they accepted that there was an issue. 8 Months go by and finally either the case or the bracelet come back STILL with rust stains, the other had been hastily sanded down or some shit. Bad work. Again the brand denied any culpability. "that's not rust lol" , when it very clearly was.
I have no idea what's transpired since I last bothered to look. I think the hapless buyer is still waiting, like 2 years now.
This, amongst other stories of CS bullshittery, makes me uneasy. Mind you I own a DA36 and, for the most part, have been satisfied. I have dropped and knocked it one too many times that I think I'll get it checked out. Not a mark on the case though, so meme or not at least the finish holds up. I'll send the watch to their American distributor who retains a watchmaker familiar with Damasko's peculiarities (case, crown etc.), because fuck dealing with the factory. Ever. I don't even live in the US.

I was very close to buying one of their in-house calibre types in the past as I was enamoured with the idea of actual effort after getting disillusioned with the Swiss industry after becoming aware of all this >>14874076
I'm glad I did not.
In this regard at least D trumps S, who have not attempted anything so radical as a manufactory escapement. But in-house movements don't exactly mean they're better, and come servicing time you're stuck dealing with only that brand. D is such a niche brand so who knows how long it will be around?
I'd rather spend 4k+ or whatever it was elsewhere rather than bet on a niche maker in a declining industry.
S has better designs though, I'll give them that, and are a more established brand so CS issues seem to be better dealt with.
After my watches were stolen I replaced them with the DA36; it didn't have a higher grade ETA like the Sinn, but was well regulated and was clocking in about +/-5s/day. Until I dropped it on a hardwood floor. A couple of times. It was a dependable watch that I could wear with anything, anywhere. Being inconspicuous with an innocuous timepiece makes you conspicuous where I live, where it's an endless parade of flashy stuff (nautili, GMT's, daytonas etc.).

If I could improve one thing it would be the lume. It stinks.
They use C1 and absolutely refuse to entertain even the idea of upgrading to BCGW9 or whatever it is. This penny pinching bothers me. As large as the lume deposits are on the hands and dial it really is quite pathetic in regards to longevity.

>All in all, their designs are sharp, crisp and clean, but ultimately german and boring.
This is another reason why I'll not buy another, D or S. I'm bored of that look. I deal with germans all the fucking time, eng. types and frankfurt cunts that love Sinn and IWC.
I tire of anything that reminds me of them.

When I can accrue enough funds to replace my stolen shit, it's pre-maxi era lolex and the nip lion from here on out.
