definitely this, techwear was originally for active lifestyle users but has now been dumbed down to who can look the most gaudy and defeats the whole aspect of being dressed for a purpose

good thing about techwear is you can tell straight away who does it for the actual practiality vs gaudywannabes

As with any style theirs good and bad. Full acronym does look cool but only in the context of their own photo shoots since all the models are fit and the pairing is perfect. The less over the top jackets and bags can be quite cool if worn with more casual or modern hikercore stuff, and their are other brands which make much more wearable and less overdesigned stuff like Rosen, Veilence, Descente all terrain, etc. I sort of started dressing like this before it was such a thing just cause I live somewhere with quite brutal weather and would wear nice modern ski stuff casually just cause it was practical, and when I became more interested in clothes I picked some tech oriented stuff.

I don't think fa hates techwear. Some people do but they just think thats cool because this place is what popularised techwear as far as I remember.

The acronym stuff is kinda meme imo. The pieces are nice, but the prices indicate that it is a fashion statement and mostly about design and looking cool, while still pretending to be 100% functionality. In the end it's all sportswear, and most mid price-range sportswear is just as fuctional/durable as designer.

Not everyone pretends to be something with techwear though. My country (the Netherlands) can be summarized in two words: Bicycles and rain. None of us young people have a car over here because the country and cities are very small. Essentially we 'work out' daily, many seasons in the rain. Working out in a standard non breathable rain jacket is straight up cancer, so this is where GoreTex comes in handy for example.

I live in Northern Sweden and here pic rel is everywhere. People use them casually for stuff like going to the store since they are often pretty comfy.

Since outdoor sports gear often looks pretty boring (think brands like Craft and Arcteryx) I kinda get the drive to create better looking and more interesting stuff.

I certainly cannot speak for the majority of /fa/, but I don't really like synthetic fabrics in the first place.
Something like wool or loden keeps nice and warm while still being pretty breathable. If a prehistoric flood comes around, waxed cotton is my go-to.
