Cant speak for anyone else, but for me its the quintessential bond movie. Not too camp, not too serious, not too miserable, doesn't try to downplay that hes a state sanctioned murderer but also doesn't wallow in oh-woe-is-me-Im-a-bad-guy faggotry, still a bunch of fun and shootouts and a tank chase, but also punctuated by actual spy shit with disguises and abseiling ninja stuff. Its close enough to the end of the cold war that its not removed from its espionage roots but modern enough that its accessible to people born after the fall of the Berlin wall. Its not particularly strong in any camp, but its balanced in all the right places. I know I'm not influenced by the game (I suspect the game is the reason many remember it fondly), because Ive never played it.
