I also really like MBV and Sonic Youth, but haven't listened to them in years – thanks for the reminder. Also, I am a big fan of Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake, I think they were just outside of the top5. Van Morrison is good but I just never find myself actively listening to his music.

Here's some thoughts on tip based on my life that you might find interesting, well I now have the money to have bespoke jackets trousers and shirts made but as soon as I put them on I feel like I lose a part of myself, like I loose my edge to innovate, my drive to pull all nighters and then sleep on the floor of the office or in the car to get whatever I'm working on up and running. Putting on a jacket and trousers, let alone a suit, makes me feel like I won life, like the game has ended because I've defeated the final boss and now all that's left to do is roam around in my lvl 99 chars prancing and killing some low tier mobs, it's a pretty sickening feeling honestly.

I want life to fight back, I want to have to earn other people's respect, it keeps me on the edge, makes me feel alive. I want people to treat me normally, to know that I could go inside some run down joint and people would treat me just the same. I want to feel like the guy who washes his own car, repairs his own appliances, does his own gardening, who didn't change because of money.

It brings me great mental distress because I would love to dress tip, but I can't. I tried, for long enough, but these feelings never went away.

I’m in the same boat. If anything, I’m even more motivated now to improve my life because I’m slowly discovering I’m not even close to reaching my ceiling with every step I take down the rabbit hole. With every error I make or bad fit, I learn more about myself, and what I can do to improve things I feel should be improved upon. I then take this knowledge and apply it to my life, hoping to steer it into greater direction.

I was homeless for 5 years until earlier this year. Your ceiling today will be your floor tomorrow. We’re all going to make it.

my friend and I have a name for the person you describe wanting to be. we call it the "Eddie Bauer Millionaire". they are the dudes that you see at flea markets wearing faded, worn out clothes (usually things they've worn for a decade at least) that have stains on them or are frayed. but when they reach for something you see a Rolex poking out. and when they are done for the day you see them load the antiques or things they bought at the flea market into an Eddie Bauer edition SUV. these are guys who have run the course and give zero fucks. they'll haggle price on things but not in an offensive way. they usually wear stuff with no branding on it but you can tell its usually orvis or ll bean or rrl or old brooks brothers. if you are east coast sometimes they are in really fucked up carhartt barn coats. these aren't outdoorsmen or camping enthusiasts but generally sportsmen of some sort. sounds like you gotta find a hobby anon that clears your head. go skiing this winter. or find someone to play tennis with. become more practical about things, and less precious about them.
