Did you ever regret selling a watch? I bought an auto for daily wear and find the thickness/bulk, weight, the lack of precision and low power reserve annoying. Im strongly considering selling it (for half the price, sadly) and going back to quartz, or a thinner auto because quartz watches tend to have boring dials. The more I live with it, the more annoying I find it, except for the clean dial and gud lume.

Just get a seamaster, normies know omega, they have more class than Rolex (the poeple normally do), you can't get a sports Rolex new anyway.

Tudor is still quite new on the scene, they may as well been a dead brand. I'm wondering if this is going to be like panerai and in 3 to 4 years from now no one will want anything to do with them. At some point these heritage models will get played out.

I'd just stick to the more iconic designs, you are future proof then. That said the BB58 and gmt look good.

I'm not familiar with the Orient 3star models (though I prefer their styles overall them to the Seiko 5s desu), but here's some recommendable Seiko 5s:
snxs77
snk381

These two because they both offer at a glance instant legibility, the latter more than the former. I'm autistic about this sort of thing and if I have to re-angle my wrist even slightly after having just raised it to check the time all because the reflections off the dial/polished hands/indices obscures the time, I get frustrated.
Both models have large white areas (that are luminous) over a darker dial. Many Seiko 5s have little lume pips and rely on polished hands and indices. I've gotten too use to military style field watches and flieger types to be able to stand that anymore.

You can buy an aftermarket double domed sapphire crystal for the snk381 from crystaltimes if you want, the snxs77 doesn't have that upgrade option.
Bracelets are shit but not intolerable and you can always change it. Both are 37mm so if that's too small for you look elsewhere.

>sprung dreve
hello integrated circuit full of lead-free solder mandated by the supreme cuckage that is the EU because "muh nanny state decrees kep me saf" that will last 10-15 years max before it literally fucks itself to death because lead-free solder is shit whereas the pure mechanical watch could keep going (with caveats).

I'm exaggerating. But honestly spring drive combines in my eyes not the best of both but the flaws of both kinds of movements. If you're going to get a mechanical watch, get a pure mechanical watch. It's no longer a thing of mechanical beauty if its accuracy comes not purely from cogs and springs and weights moving together in harmony but instead relies at the end of the day on electricity, magnets and a quartz crystal for regulation. If that's what you're into fine, whatever. I'd be more inclined to cut out the relatively delicate and inaccurate hybrid mechanical middle man and go full quartz.

And if quartz at all, might as well go solar quartz like the Citizen Chronomaster eco-drives that have better movements than GS quartz (not only a perpetual calendar, but one that changes at midnight on the dot rather than the grand seiko's lazy slide to the next date after like 20mins). Also, instead of battery changes every 3 years it's a capacitor change MAYBE after 15-20 years if you've been negligent in keeping it charged with light (hard in winter in the northern hemisphere).

>>14820338
>muh 50yr service interval
Debunked and all traces of it that might have been on Seiko websites that lead to the misunderstanding have been scrubbed. All that remains is the clueless on forums parroting old sales pitches.
Still, citizen chronomasters can only be bought from, and warranty and service done in, Japan. Ideally you wouldn't have to touch that shit for 20 years (or more?) and it should, under ideal conditions, provide better accuracy against the Seiko 9F's under ideal conditions. Nothing's ever ideal though.

Just like in fashion, there must be different "looks" with watches, similarly to how a blazer and a hoodie sends a different message.

For instance, do GMT watches convey a different look from Chronographic watches? I wouldn't want to buy something that doesn't fit my personality or style. Problem is I have no idea what watches do.

A "dress watch" is really just "a watch" at the end of the day.
All watches in the past were "dress watches". This obsessive fixation with sporty watches is tiresome, but as long as the hype fad is blowing that way then at least every other style of watch remains available.
There's no reason a traditional "dress watch" like a patek 5196, a vacheron historiques ultrafine 1955, a lange saxonia or even a cartier tank can't be worn everyday.
Unless of course your everyday dress consists solely of tracksuits or graphic t-shirts, cargo shorts and whatever nike/adidas any given rapper is shilling at any given moment.

>> No.14821550

Okay /fa/ggots, it's been years since I bought a watch but now I need a watch for formal and casual business outfits, a dress watch that I can also wear in more casual settings.
I'm set on buying an automatic watch and it must be from a reputable german, swiss or japanese company or at least have a corresponding movement.
My budget is 500 yuros and I am from Germany, so that makes things a little more complicated and I also have small wrists at 6-6.5", to complicate things further.
So the watch should be somewhere between 36 and 40,5 mm width, not exceed 12 mm height and 44 mm lug to lug.

I've already done some research and found some interesting options:
>Seiko SARB033
Perfect at 38 mm, sapphire, good movement.
Import only around 450eur + 19% VAT if customs catch it, so approximately 540eur, which is over budget. If that's really the best option, I may consider it regardless.
>Seiko SRPB43J1
Really love the style, the wonderful dial, but only 4R movement and hardlex, so idk.. price is good at about 300-350 tho.
>Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80
Very nice watch overall, dimensions are larger than SARB033, but considering VAT the Le Locle is cheaper at around 450.
>Orient Star Classic
At 400 or not available, style is okay but somethings missing for me.
>Zeppelin/Junkers, etc.
Cheap and some decent options but can I trust the movement?

So that's that. Any feedback to the options above and alternatives welcome, thanks.

Dressy style / watches are normally, smaller watches 36 to 38mm on leather with a simple dial (no date, chrono, gmt). Can bet in gold or steel, don't buy plated gold it will wear, soild or nothing. Some will wear a ceramic driver as a dress watch and sub, seamaster, superocean and so on.

Sports / everyday watches are normally on braclets and in steel or titanium, 39-42mm I would go much more than 42mm. Speedmasters / Seamasters / Planet Oceans, Black Bays, Rolex Sport models.

Then you have everyday / sport watches than can be dressed up as well, 36-41mm, simple dials like dress watches but on bracelets or leather. A lot of Grand Seiko models, Aqua Terras, Rolex Explores (not 2), Sinn 556i, IWC MK models, Stowa, Nomos.

Don't rush it, plan you purchases or you will just sell them in a year. Buy your watches used from trusted dealers / family jewellers, haggle with me for the best price.

My recommendation

Dress watch, JLC Reverso or master control, Zenith Elite, Nomos Orion, vintage omega constellation or seamaster.

Sports watch, Speedmaster (hand winding with hesalite) Ceramic Seamaster, Black Bay 58 or GMT, Zenith El Primero 1969 reissue.

Modern Rolex a little out of your price range, Op39, older explore 36 (114270), vintage datejusts are all good aswell.

Yeah well, it's the advice I got from collectors. Read read read. Buy what you love. Form your own opinion. Do you really like what you want to buy or is it just that you've been bombarded with it through media? Concerning vintage, don't chase reference numbers, instead look for great examples. Will you still wear it five, ten, twenty years from now? Do you care about it holding value? Stuff like that is worth considering.

>The 103 is a total classic... most people love them. The only common complaint is that they are very thick (which is true).
>The 103 acrylic is thick, but wears thinner than the 103 St Sa due to the solid caseback. For my 7" wrist it's a very comfortable wear (and I actually enjoy small watches, even a little Casio F-91w).
>Also, the Valjoux-equipped Sinn chronographs are deadly accurate, especially once you find the proper resting position for your watch when you take it off at night. Mine gains one to two seconds a week, and has sometimes gone a whole month without gaining or losing a second (depending on temperature).

Can someone recommend a thinner 103 equivalent with a display caseback? I'm really worried about the thickness, I see this all the time, the UFO effect and shit.

The sea dweller. I love it, desu.

As far as breitlings go, that one is not particularly offensive. The montblanc is pretty subtle, not as bad as it looks.

Did it make you feel any better about owning shit watches? If so, it was worth it. My family has dealt with the jeweler for decades. I'm sure it won't be an issue, if I ever get down on my luck and have to sell it and buy a shit tier watch.

You asked me to.

I didn't imagine someone would be upset enough to do something malicious.

Don't worry about it. It won't actually cause any problems.
