Trad harks back to the 50s
Ivy really becomes a style in the 50s and 60s peaking at 1969 and then pretty much disappearing forever.

Nah, it's like you don't even know what style is about. Being prep for example is as much about an ethos and themes being played upon as it is about some staples. Here are some important guidelines of being prep:

clean cut, wholesome
healthy, athletic
academic, smart casual
clothing made from natural fibres
comfortable not constraining

Yes ocbds are important but i'd say the above ideas are much more important.

Slim fit is gay. I agree fuck certain rules, but that shit looks bad on people. You got twig lanklets on here with child bearing hips and shit upper bodies wearing slim(You)knowhwoyouare). It makes your hips look rounder/wider and legs look like toothpicks bc of the tapered leg.
At least wear slim straights or a straight fit. The only way someone can pull a slim fit off is if they have a dominant upper body with narrow hips.
Aaand if you’re wearing a loose fitting fit make sure the hem/cuff ends at the mid section of your ankle! Spend some monis and get that shit tailored.

Trad guy here, gonna try to answer this seriously.
The first thing to keep in mind is that there were a lot of fashion trends in the past as well and many of them looked like absolute shit, BUT those were discared as failed experiments and cannot be regarded as traditional (as they were not at the time, and are not now). Wearing them makes you look like a LARPer. There used to be a guy on Styleforum (I think it was) who looked like the epitome of an 80s teen-movie nerd and who insisted on only wearing the screwiest imaginable 30s and 40s trendclobber; he looked absolutely mad and probably subscribed to Chap magazine.
Trad is about timeless cuts, not about obsolete trends. So just because you can find some shit in a picture, that doesn't mean it's trad.

Secondly, it's hard to judge from one picture but it looks to me like these trousers aren't cut like a modern slim fit, they're what some people call a "guards" cut (especially noticeable on #2 from the right although he diverges from the classic guards cut by having a turn-up). These are trousers cut to resemble those of 19th-century cavalrymen, specifically the "Horse Guards" who were regarded as a dashing regiment with a good-looking uniform. They have a tapered leg, but a high rise and a fairly generous thigh, which differs from the typical slim fit; they were also typically worn with a half-break, not this hideous ankle shit that you see now (in fact, the only trouser cut I know of that has anything like an ankle length is for older winter suits, where boots are assumed and the tailor wants to keep slush and mud off your hems).
This whole thing is less important than the first point, though, since as I said I could easily be wrong going off only one photo and the general principle is more important anyway than some quibble about specific cuts.

I hope this helps.

I like plain or striped scarves. Muted tartan or some other check is second best. Fair isle patterns just look weird to me on scarves, like somebody cut up a jumper to wrap around his neck. I know that's irrational, but that's what taste is.

I have sweaters that I've never washed in 2+ years of ownership. If they don't smell, there is zero point to washing them. They should never be touching your skin so no sweat should be getting on them. So unless you've spilled something or fell in dirt. Why even bother?
If you actually do need to clean your sweaters. Go to a dry cleaner that'll do it.

two Qs

I’m not sure if I should get brushed/shaggy sweaters or non shaggy? I like the non shaggy look more but idk.

Is there a way I can dress down an OCBD under sweater so it’s more appropriate where I am? Shirts make me warm as fuck but also it’s really too dressed up for my environment. Maybe just a long sleeve mock neck tee so there would still be visible ‘collar’ and ‘cuff’? Alternative is just a roll neck ofcourse but eh.

Thanks, I am an engineering student and everyone here wears nothing interesting or full tech/streetwear (which I do too) and I am working in a garage most days so an OCBD isn’t practical/feels restrictive/very hot and I would really look out of place here. I’m not worried about other people’s perceptions it just doesn’t fit the environment.

Thanks for the rec and END clothing also have a sale for some knitwear too so that’s an option.

Shaggy or non shaggy is just a looks thing?
Should I be buying TTS or sizing up for a shirt/tee underneath?
I also am not sure if I should get roll or crew necks or both for variety. I’m looking at off whites/black/charcoal/brown so the roll neck will most likely be black and I’m not sure about a crew colour since my pants are all charcoal/black and I definitely don’t have ivy colour because I prefer darker colours but I look here for inspiration. If I can roll a roll neck down low enough for a collar then I’ll just get roll necks for more use.
