I have to get a new pair of boots for work that are preferably waterproof and wont fuck up my feet since I will be walking 10 miles everyday and keens sound alright. They mostly look like ass.

Austro fag here. During my time in the military I began a sort of love hate relationships with these boots. Before you really break them in ( technically they brake you in) they are a pain in the ass. I dreaded every time we had to march somewhere, after a while I got used to them and began to enjoy these absolute units while I was at the border. For the last year I've been wearing a pair of Ralph Lauren Iron ranger knockoffs that I got on sale for 70 dollars.
I've been planning to finally buy a real boot but I've tried on 4 different sizes of Iron rangers now and none of them feel right. The EE are too wide, the D are too narrow, and sizing up makes way too much extra space in the toe box. So right when I saw a sale I jumped on them. Would you say a 1/2 size down from your normal size is right?

>> No.14809490

>>14809476
I'm the same with my Iron Rangers. I hardly wear them as they're just in this weird range where they're slightly too wide but they're D width and that's what my feet are. I think RW's last just isn't that great.
Anyway, yeah, half size down should be good. I'm an 8.5 Brannock footlet and their 8 fits like a charm.

Yes, they are a noticable step up in quality especially compared to chink shit docs. They are arguably even better than MiE docs due to their more durable soles. I can't really speak on MiE docs personally as I have never owned pair but I've destroyed 2 pairs of chink docs and currently own a pair of black 8i Solovairs that have already outlasted the mono docs I bought a few years ago. I have not babied the Solovairs. I've used them as beaters and have not been kind to them at all. That being said I have heard really good things about the Quillion(spelling?) Leather used on the current production MiE docs. I may purchase a pair since they're only $220 and I'm curious to see how they compare to my Solovairs.

That's nice to hear.

I actually think the "chinkshit docs are bad" thing is a bit memed up. These are my 1460 Gaucho Crazy Horse that I've had for a year and a half now, with almost daily wear - beater boots. The tag says "Made in Vietnam".

Sure, some corners are cut - the fabric lining (not the leather) is wearing out a bit, I've ground off the soles a little, and I had to swap the laces, but given what you hear about Docs, you'd expect that after as much wear as I put on them, they'd be falling apart.

The two pairs of chink docs I have owned both had cracks in the leather and/or the soles after a little over a year of regular wear. First was a pair of oxblood 1460s second were mono 1460s. Just my personal experience with them and was frankly disappointing to say the least. My 8i solos are on their second winter here which is pretty brutal in the north east. No signs of potential failure. I'm very happy with them save for imperfections on the tongue of the right boot (they are a b stock pair I was shipped on accident and was subsequently given a partial refund for)

quality wise this type of year long heavy wear is expected of basic leather sneakers. though there's no shame in that, good for less than $150 boots.
as for the meme, it's silly to compare docs to a typical boot with a shank, sturdy construction, etc. . that's what everybody on here is mistaken about with docs, they're considered 'fashion boots', of course they're incomparable to military surplus boots. it's beating a dead horse.
albeit it's a downer the iconic boot's reputation has been tampered with in this modern age, i would've kept production in England and have kept it as a heritage brand.

They're more or less trying to rebrand their made in England line with the "vintage" heritage angle. They've got their own factory again and are no longer having solovair manufactures their MiE boots for them. That's part of why I'm thinking of copping a pair for shits and giggles.

Saving money. No, for real, you can't get good leather boots at this price point. I mean, maybe MilSurp, but this is a pretty specific look that is not very versatile. Besides that, Palladium, but they're more like sneakers - nylon weave, not leather.

I got the high shine black myself last year to replace my trashed mono docs. I love them but I do kinda wish I got the greasy. For what it's worth, they're not as shiny as the pictures on the website make them out to be. The gray stitching on the sole is also darker in person and darkens further with wear.
