Tungsten can actually look great when done right. You can get a simple thin band made of tungsten and it would look great while having the added benefit of tungsten being virtually indestructible. Something like pic related could easily pass as a traditional gold band to the untrained eye.
The thing is that people always get them plated in black and get them 8mm wide with ugly inlays.
I'm not hating on tungsten at all and think it's a good choice for someone wanting a study ring with zero maintenance required, I just hate that it's always tungsten that these ugly bands are made from.

People like this deserve it. It's easier to break off a tungsten ring than it is to cut a gold ring.
With gold you need a ring cutter which unless you're an EMT/Paramedic you probably aren't just carrying around with you everywhere. A tungsten ring can shatter if you smack it hard enough against a counter top. You can hit it with a hammer and break it off easily too.

Stainless steel most likely, though tungsten is dirt cheap as well.
Gold just looks nice, holds its value (it will probably get more valuable over time) and can be resized so as you age and your knuckles grow you can keep the same ring and just get it adjusted to fit better.
I think palladium and platinum are memes when white gold already exists. No need to spend 2 to 3 times more for a metal the same color that no one will be able to tell apart.

It is the new thing, perfect for those who want to ditch the status quo and it does has different pros and cons that make it a good choice in a number of cases functionally speaking.

I have seen rose gold men's bands and I actually really like it. I considered it for my own wedding band but it just didn't go well with my skin tone. It's really dependent on the wearer's skin; on some people it gets washed out. I think rose gold on men is super underrated.
On women it looks really good with gemstones. Diamonds you definitely want to stick to white gold as it makes the diamond really good stick out. Yellow gold really washes out diamonds.

Nope. There's a reason silver isn't used for rings. It's too soft and tarnishes. Too much upkeep.
Unless you're being facetious about white gold having the same color, in which case your joke isn't funny

Baffles me how guys with those kind of rings don't realize how goony and childish they look.

I have one like this, and it was gold on the inside and brushed gold on the outside. On my honeymoon in Japan I went swimming in the ocean and the salt water somehow ate away at the brushed gold, so the top is now a dark grey/silver color. I actually like it better now and looking at it always reminds me of my awesome time in Japan.

I've been looking into rings for my GF and since that is her birthstone I feel it would be more intrinsic than a full diamond inlay.

Basically like pic related. Looks really good on rose gold as white would wash it out and yellow would look really bad.

It's not about scratches. Because tungsten is so hard is basically scratch proof. Only a diamond can scratch it.
But we're not talking about scratchability but brittleness. Because it's so hard it makes it easily shatterable. If you drop a tungsten ring it can break to pieces. You can hit it with a hammer and break it or put it in vice grips

fun fact: jewelers buy space iron and cut it into slices instead of ordering synthetics. its prohibitively expensive to imitate that unique nickel-iron crystal pattern

To me that looks so much better than the similar design in diamonds on white gold.
It would complement her complexion too, I think I might look into something like this if she likes it.
I want to buy something we both like instead of getting another ring 30 years later because she isn't in love with it.

No one is fucking complimenting you on in your fucking ring. No one gives a shit. Guys don't compliment other guys on their ring because that's gay as fuck and girls don't compliment guys because that's weird as fuck to compliment a married guy on his ring when you're another girl.
