Love the vintage Pobedas. Dont know how they are mechanically, but I like how the subdial is an integral part of the design, not an afterthought and doesnt cut into any hour markers. Unlike some Swiss/British/American designs of the time (and now).

Do any of you guys actually wear a Omega tier of watch or great as a daily?

Im considering getting rid of all my mid range low end crap and just putting it all towards one premium versatile watch eg. an Aqua Terra

I just have a thing in the back of my mind that id feel like a bit of a show off or asshole with that on my wrist. I currently drive an newish Audi and that gets a few comments from people thinking I have a heap of money and I really hate that. I never got one comment when I used to drive my Mitsubishi Evo X which was more expensive than my current car.

I know I shouldnt care what people think but I just dont like attention in that way. Give me attention any other way and I dont give a shit.

Im really interested in getting something like a Sinn 104 or a Hamilton Khaki. 2 problems though, no one near me stocks either brand and the crowns on both watches look xboxhueg. Its a lot of money to order either online and then find the watch uncomfortable to wear.

Homage watches are generally a legal way of reproducing an item with lower grade materials, all mid end to upper end seikos feature in house movements....seikos made in Malaysia and the phillipines tend to be watches avoided by people in the horological hobby.

So you have something with none of the prominence and horological history of the Seiko name (countless innovations in watch history, they invited digital watches, quartz and spring drive)

With none of the lauded quality of the Japanese production in house movements

And none of the master workmanship and assembly of a Seiko employee who holds the takeshido certification for production line assembly

Yet you demand people give a shit about your watch?

That's like demanding GIA certify my rock or at least acknowledge my rock...

Depends on your circle; it is impossible to generalize on that level. If you’re in a metropolitan city then you’ll need something really impressive to even get noticed (on the level of AP, up to RM in some places in Asia). If you live in some flyover city then maybe a Rolex would be treated as a sign of opulence. The simple answer is: buy for yourself and not for anyone else, the vast vast majority will not know or care whats on your wrist.

Suggestions for a watch for underground mining? I’m an electrician in an underground mine, it gets real easy to lose track of time and the only time we have is in work ute which can be a fair way away from where we work sometimes. It needs to be automatic because nothing with a battery is allowed unless it’s “intrinsically safe”, I can’t have any steel bands so preferably rubber as all the shit down there would probably ruin a leather/fabric strap quick, preferably pretty hard wearing, mainly don’t want the glass scratched to shit, and good lume would be a big bonus but that’s not a big issue.. I’ve been looking along the lines of seiko’s or citizens, don’t want to spend too much on it as it will have a pretty hard life. Cheeeers

If it seems too good to be true it usually is.
Compare their prices with the manufacturer's msrp, similar sites and also check with local shops to see their prices.
One little trick some like to play is to set their price above msrp and label it as a markdown from a much higher bullshit price.
So say msrp on a watch is $3500, they'll pretend the original price was $5500 and mark it down to $3750 to make you think you're getting a great deal, when they're really just fucking you over. So shop around and compare.

You can dress well all you want, but if somebody sees you in a 10 year old peugeot they will pity you.

Oscar Wilde toured the Americas once with a presentation about aesthetics. He argued it'd look better to pair a plain home with simple design objects rather than pursuing expensive furniture or cutlery that wouldn't match the existing interior.

If you dress exepensively, a cheap watch can be distracting (unless you're a girl or a chad who can pull stupid shit like this off in order to mock normies).

But that's just my take on it.
