I don't think so. For earrings that have virtually no chance of hitting something and being scratched, absolutely go for 18k.
For a wedding band that will be worn every single day for presumably 50+ years, 14k is a much better choice. It's much more durable and scratch resistant than 18k and can handle the abuses of daily wear much better.
You gotta remember, gold is soft as fuck. That's why it's alloyed with other metals to make it stronger. The higher the karat the weaker the item. Save the 18k for the ring you wear once a year to a fancy party, get the 14k for the daily driver.

Hating on marriage is such a zoomer way of thinking. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting married if you do it right, if you've known each other for a good amount of time, lived with each other and know each other's habits, cleanliness, etc. and know what you're getting into. I had a ceramic ring for a while. My wife and I were both full time students, working the bare minimum hours we could to make enough money to survive so we could focus all our time on finishing university. There was no money for expensive rings. I picked out a black ceramic ring because it was cheap and on top of that we got a discount on it because I got her ring from the same place. I liked it because it was absolutely scratch proof. A year later there wasn't a single scratch on it. It's all much lighter than tungsten which is quite heavy.
Anyway, my wife finished school and got her dream job and we finally had decent money coming in. She knew I always wanted a gold band from the start we just couldn't afford one at the time so after she got her job she bought me one.

I'm not saying I really like ceramic and other black bands, but it makes sense when you're a poor student or something. But for the love of God, do not get one with red or other colors in it, it makes an already cheap ring look cheaper.
