Have you taken the black pill yet? Dressing in all black is the epitome of being effay.

monochromatic is a fucking cope in the fashion world. Do you know how hard it is to fuck up an all black fit? And don't patronize me with "muh textures, muh depth using different materials" wow you sure are so knowledgeable about fashion. Learn how to style clothes with fucking color then you may actually hope to be truly fashionable you fucking joke.

I swear there's only one guy on this board posting this crap because every time somebody is trying to bash dressing monochrome the reply is so formulatic. If your ability to dress yourself is anything like your ability to write creatively then we can all safely assume that you're simply talking out of your ass and bashing monochrome for some petty personal reason. I suppose I dress monochrome about half the time and use various colours the other, and it's the monochrome which is harder to pull off to a standard that becomes interesting. I bet you've never even tried putting together an interesting monochrome fit in your life, probably because you don't know where to start. Here's some inspo for you, take it back to /r/MFA where you belong and don't come back.

Not what I said at all. If you can effectively incorporate color into your fit rather than relying on the crutch that is monochrome only fits then you are placing yourself on a higher tier. Being able to pull together material knowledge, the weight and layering of garments, knowing color blocking and what colors and shade compliment each other rather than only choosing from white gray, black and black.

>>14734105
Looks pretty good in pictures but all that drapes shit is impractical if they’re going out in public with. The fault with monochrome is that if you put those exact same clothes in any color, white, red, baby blue it’s still the exact same fit. By incorporating different colors into a fit you can change the whole feel/mood of a fit, Pastels for spring, whites and tans for summer, Browns and olives for fall.

>>14734689
i disagree with the idea that people should play with different colours according to mood/season.
if you want to look the best you have to learn what colours work best with your skin tone/undertone, hair colour, eye colour. in fact some people look worse in black than on colour.
it gets easier to use colour in your fits if you know what works for you.
e.g. a person with dark hair and cool skin looks great in jewel tones, while a person with light hair and tan skin would look better in pastels

It's an appeal to complexity. Wearing all black is easy, so you cannot possibly be that knowledgeable about fashion; therefore, wearing all black is a sign that you're not actually terribly fashionable.

Let us begin:

In pic related: >>14734105
The person is wearing what appears to be a black turtle neck under a black button up with a black scarf under some sort of casual sports jacket with lapels upturned all under a black overcoat/trench coat. Looking below the waist line we see the ends of the scarf and what only can be discerned as some sort of long rectangular draw string perhaps being apart of the pants? The pants themselves being black wide legged cropped trousers.

Now of those items, it can be said that there is no textural difference between the button up shirt, sports jacket, trench coat, or pants. If you can tell me how those textures differ please enlighten me. However from what I see all those items are made out of the same material which gives off an almost shiny, 90's track suit sheen almost as if the fabric is entirely synthetic or at least a large percentage synthetic.

Awesome. Proper discussion is rare here these days. If you have any really nice vibrantly coloured fits to post that would be cool, but let's stay away from runway stuff.
Like I said before, I dress monochrome about half the time. That being said I don't have anything against colour, I just don't view excessive hate towards full black as necessary. Being that I am Asian I may also have some bias towards the style as it's easier for me to wear drapey styles of outfits without being seen as larping.
To start, I would like to remind anybody else reading this that black comes in many different shades, and that there are red based blacks, brown based blacks, blue based blacks, so on and so forth. So in a full black outfit, picking out suitable shades of black is one thing to consider. In this picture the blacks are all of a similar lighter shade, which whilst does detract from the variation texture, creates a uniformity which adds to the drape and adds an air of solemnity, the drape being the most impressive aspect of the outfit for me. I do see your point with the synthetics in the fabric but don't think it's as shiny as you're making it out to be.
Pieces being worn sounds about right. That's five visible layers of clothing on the torso. But with a coloured outfit we can put on two or three and call it a day and use differing colours or patterns to make up for what layering different cuts of the same colour can do. Don't forget the fact that individually all the pieces can be considered on the more fomal side of dress, but when put together this way give off a completely different impression.
tl;dr, variation in texture and colour sacrificed for better drape, flow, and unity of concept. But would you bash somebody for having no variatous in texture, shirt and tie aside, when they wear a three piece suit?
