first poke always leave a little bit of an ink spot for me too. vaseline will help with that though. try aiming for 6-7 pokes before re-dipping your needle. i find that 6 or 7 passes with something like a 5 roundliner is satisfactory for me if i’m just doing lines. also worth mentioning, when dipping your needle, try not to let it touch the bottom of the cup, over time it’ll bend the points creating a more painful and less cleanly executed tattoo. snp are great, and a lot of artists where i live do exclusively handpoke work. practice on fruit.
