I only managed to get lean when I stopped obsessing over food and just ate what I truly wanted until I was satisfied without judging myself. When I restricted or tried any diet I would binge several times a week and was overweight as a result.

Cook your food. Eat more vegetables! There's no fucking way that I'm not going to get my rda of almost everything if I'm eating nearly a kilogram of cooked greens! The only nutrients of concern when restricting below 1100 calories a day is calcium and xinc. In that case you have to eat almost exclusively beans and greens to get both in a day. Your nutrient needs are going to be substantially less when you weigh less. This is also reflected in your bmr. When you restrict heavily ~25% or more your mitochondria become substantially more efficient and more form (just like with exercise). You see with mice, and monkeys that they live nearly twice as long eating half the calories only if the nutrients are sufficient. I've been a vegan for 4 years. There's no evidence that vitamin A deficiencies exist outside of the 3rd world (because they eat mostly grains and casaba) and anorexics. Yeah I tended to avoid oily fatty fish if I could, canned fish is typically a lot lower in fats, with prawns and canned tuna essentially being 100% protein (100kcal -> 25g of protein) but yeah, I eat mostly lean meat cuts instead because of the risk of mercury poisoning

the rest of my diet basically was veggies which are super lower calorie anyway and thus were easy to fit around my protein goal, I ate around 800kcal each day

Since you're sedentary and snack a lot, the main problem (I think) is that you aren't eating a more filling meal. Have you tried eating OMAD/doing fasts? Obviously, I'd recommend working towards it instead of immediately jumping in if you think it's a bit too difficult to do so immediately, but it's a great way to break through a hurdle (from personal experience as a fellow 5' 8" guy). The idea is to basically cram so much food into you at once that you won't feel hungry the rest of the day. I don't know if you drink calories, but cutting that is also pretty helpful. Just find a food/some foods you like enough that you can eat a whole bunch of it and slam it down in the morning or whenever is most convenient for you. Weight loss is mostly diet anyway.

When I did alternate day fasting, I fasted every other day and eat at maintenance in-between. I focused on eating as nutritiously as possible on my feeding days in order to delay nutritional deficiencies as much as possible, so I ate oily fish, avocados, cheese, organ meats, and a lot of veggies, I tracked everything with cronometer, I made sure to hit at least 95% of my goals each day I did eat. I also did keto while doing ADF so I'd remain in constant "fasted" state inbetween feeding and eating days as fasting essentially IS ketosis but with elevated cortisol/HGH/adrenaline etc levels on top of the ketone bodies

However for the lean lean meat and veggie diet, I'd recommend eating the lowest fat meats possible, preferably grass fed fresh meats with little preservatives but depending on your financial situation/cooking ability that might be a unfeasible, deli meats tend to be extremely lean as well but are loaded with preservatives. Canned fish is another good source of lean protein (100kcal of tuna = 24g of protein which is insane!) but you have to be mindful of mercury consumption over time, low mercury low fat seafood that you can safely eat regularly tends to be pretty pricey.

as for veggies, well anything goes pretty much! Nearly all veggies are low calories, full of vital micronutrients (although often times these micronutrients are not very bioavailable to humans, non heme iron and beta carotene vit a for example) and help bulk out meals, I recommend you eat as many different veggies as possible as overconsumption of any particular vegetable will lead to a build up antinutrients overtime. If you do this diet for any extended period of time it's recommended that you track your nutrient intake and consider supplements, an iron deficiency or B12 deficiency can really mess you up.

in fact, everyone should consider taking: Omega 3, B12 and Vit D, iron and magnesium are other important ones but can be toxic if taken in excess IIRC so be a bit careful

I started losing weight 5 months ago and I've been eating like 300-500 calories a day and running/working out every day and I'm almost at my goal weight. I'm not sure if it's just because I still have fat to lose or if it's because I'm gonna have extra skin from losing so much weight, but I have like a pouch on my lower stomach. if you've never fasted/done keto before it's going to be REALLY rough for the first 3-5 days, but after then it'll become a lot more manageable
make sure you read a basic guide on long term water fasting, electrolytes are important
