What's wrong with the movement? I'm not very savvy with watch movement mechanics other than a very basic understanding of what does what. Is there an inherent weakness in the construction that makes it particularly susceptible to shock damage or something? So I've been wearing a smart/fitness watch for a few months now while I've been working hard losing weight. I hate it but it is helping me stay on track. My collection of shitters has sat unworn for since then and I am halfway to my goal of losing 50 pounds. I've been saving some money every week to get myself a nice watch when I hit my goal. I should have about $4000 set aside when I hit my goal in the next six months.
Can I get some suggestions on what to get? I'm looking at a Tudor Black Bay 36 or maybe splurging some extra for a Rolex OP 36. I'm looking for 38mm or smaller, with no date or date at 6 o'clock and a metal bracelet.

That crown for helium escape is the worst fucking meme in a diver. It's just a massive liability for a watch that is suppose to be water proof. I've had a Planet Ocean 8500 whose helium escape crown somehow came slightly unwound during my business travel, and water got in during hand washes. Summer it's +2-3s a month.
Winter it's usually +4-5s a month unless I'm wearing it alot.
Note that when you pull the crown out all the way it resets to 0s making syncing really easy.
I have another one that I keep brand new though, I should start tracking that one when I move to my residency site and have my watches with me.

It really is a fantastic watch. Nice movement too, no bullshit 24hr dial, it has a true 12 hour totalizer and full 60 min register, so you dont have to look at two dials if you're timing over 30 mins like a lot of other shitty quartz chronos.
The subdial hands snap back on reset but the chrono has a fast sweep, much faster than seiko ones, and unlike le mechaquartz it wont fuck up over time.
Bracelet is very nice too, solid links, solid CENTER links and the best fitting hollow-end links I've seen on a watch. 3+ years of wear and they haven't stretched out a single bit. The brushing matches the case too.
Screwdown crown and caseback too. It's even fucking signed with an embossing and not some shitty laser etch.
I don't know who the fuck at casio designed this, but it stands head and shoulders above their other shitters. It doesn't have a single "casioism" like shitty lug length or not being a true chrono etc.
The one thing I would change is making it slightly thicker and having a steel movement holder. Otherwise you can't convince me that there's a better quartz watch in current production thats better than this guy.

Oh I also forgot to mention that you can TURN OFF THE RUNNING SECONDS.
Pushing the reset button when not in chrono mode turns off the seconds to save battery, and hitting it again makes it sweep back to running time. So fucking cool. Almost 5 years now with the factory battery.

And yeah it does wear big because of the dial + slide rule. The lugs are pretty short I would say most can pull it off on a bracelet or leather strap, if you're a wristlet having it on a thick nato would make it a non-issue. I think the l2l is either 49 or 52mm.
Also I do use the sliderule sometimes for dose calcs since it gives me a nice visual scale.

What's a decent looking quartz that has radio time sync that you can use to set all your other watches, or for tacticool purposes (that's not a G-Shock)?

I think the date display is really cool, but it's a little too much for me. I settled for the Tangent 38 instead, but if you can dig it, definitely go for it, Nomos is sleek as hell and you'd be hard pressed to make a wrong choice with them. I was also considering the Sport model, and might get it at a later point as a summer watch.

Gotta say, the Seamaster's bracelet isn't quite tickling my fancy, and the black one is a bit too severe. Now the blue one, perhaps with the rubber bracelet in reserve, there's a sporty watch.
The Pelagos is really fine as it is, and doesn't have that ghastly (IMO) helium escape valve protruding from the side. I still think it looks better in blue, though.
But if you're dead set on the color, I'd have to say the Pelagos.

I have tried the seamaster in the AD 3 times but only starting thinking about the Tudor, have saw it in the window but need to try it on, it just start growing on me, I do think it is the best watch tudor is making. I have a few watches, 3 shitter low tier and a speedy. No one uses a dive watch for diving and if you are it's something like a seiko, if something happens to it no worrys.

I like bracelets and I want an adjustable clasp and a swell up a lot in the heat. No leather strap watches as I sweat alot (not fat, gland thing) rubber or bracelets.

£3300ish for the seamaster and £2500ish for the tudor. £4000 is probably my max at this stage in my life (I'd feel comfortable paying). What else would you recommend?

I'm warming up to the idea of them. Like many I thought they were simply gaudy, tacky rapper-tier trash. Many examples still are. However when you see something like diamond baton indices on certain Pateks it works. So it all comes down to the execution. Just think of it as another kind of material used to make a watch.

I maybe also like the idea of getting an all precious metal bracelet watch at some point in the future when I've made it in life. The idea of having a "fuck you!" watch definitely appeals.
