The recent ones dont have an aligned seconds hand (or chapter ring) and you need to new gaskets when you change the battery because they're very easy to rip up when screwing in apperently. I'd rather an NH35 and not have to open the watch.

The old ladys birthday is coming up, she fell in love with the dial of a red grape Rolex. She is even more frugal with money than me, however, and seeing as it would only be an accessory worn a few times a month, she even told me to get "any" watch with a nice purple dial...for not more than 10 bucks...

Obviously Im prepared to pay more, but not much, knowing how she either loses shit or breaks it. Is there anything out there without going full aliexpress where the watch falls apart on its own in the case within a week?

tl;dr ladies size, quartz, SS, purple sunburst dial, within 50 bucks if possible, negotiable

It's the same movement, so the same coinflip applies.

My Vostoks run at +5sec and +8secs after regulation and my Seiko Turtle does +7secs per day, while the NY0040 in the picture has been running steadily at +30secs per day for years (Which i will regulate when i'll swap the caseback gasket). The overall point of the lower end movement is that they are capable of running very accurate, however are very unlikely to do so from box as they are given very basic regulation.

One issue that can be had in older or lower pieces is irregular variance, A.E a watch running +10secs one day, +25 the other and -6 the next. Meaning either a bad hairspring/balance and or something weird in the geartrain or pallet fork.

Trend for watches is getting smaller, if its a wedding present you want it to last.

I'd be tempted to get something less dressy. A tool watch you can dress up. Something you can throw on and take a bit of a beating. A steel sports you can dress up a bit. Feel like that woild be a nicer reminder if your Mrs.

I absolutely love my alpinist, but I picked it up just before the massive price spike got too bad. Case finishing is good and the suburst dial looks great in person, pics don't do it justice. Put mine on a strapcode bracelet and it's been an excellent daily wearer. I don't measure the accuracy of my watches so I can't give any exact figures but I can wear it for 3-4 days straight and not be a minute out, so it's plenty good enough for me.
All in all I think it's a fantastic watch for RRP and even a bit more, but maybe not for what some people are asking. For $500 I'd still pick it up

Because buying another strap is cheaper than buying another watch. It can make a significant change to the look of an already beloved timepiece.
Unfortunately this guy is a complete autist (judging by his collecting habits) so this logic falls flat on it's face.

Not him, but you can get a Tissot PR100 for $280 from Jomashop. The looks aren't to everyone's taste, but the construction is good. 39mm, 100m water resist, and a COSC certified automatic chronometer movement with 80 hours of power reserve.

For quartz, you'll be able to find a classic/minimalist looking Certina for well under $300 on Jomashop. Both Tissot and Certina are decent entry level Swiss brands.

Even looking at Timex they make some nice looking quartz watches. Might find something from Bulova. Try and find a bargain.

I’m really aiming for one I can dress up and dress down with different bands + I think I’m on the side of getting a white faced watch for versatility... but is that just not realistic with my budget concerns?

I’d also like to try these watches in person. There are tons of watch stores in my local mall that has various brands I can browse from. I live in Toronto.

Scroll through this link and see if you find anything you like: https://www.jomashop.com/watches.html?gender=Men%27s&manufacturer=Tissot%2CCertina%2CHamilton%2CMido&price=-300%2C

I've restricted it to decent entry level Swiss brands (all are part of Swatch group) for under $300, with a mix of quartz and mechanical (you can filter further if required). These will all be of comparable quality, and usually punch above their weight at this price.

Most department stores will stock Swatch products to try on. I'm not sure about Canada, but Tissot is ubiquitous where I am (Australia). You will find at least one of these brands though, guaranteed.

AW-80D-1AVES
I'm looking at this watch pic related.
Is there any similar priced alternative that has:
- analogue main face
- secondary digital, at least chrono because need at work
- be in that price range
- good overall reliability

That would be my watch to use during my work at factory, so nothing fancy or too expensive because I don't want to feel bad for any scratch or shit that would go over it. Thanks.

Casio
aeq-110w-1avef

AQ-S810W-1A2VEF

There are a bunch more but I'm not going to flood you with.

I'd be tempted to get the gshock. You will be retired before it craps out on you. Can't speak to the quality of the others

Thanks but I forgot to mention a couple things, my mistake:
First I already own an AW-49H that is similar to the AW-90H that you posted, and I am looking to upgrade because:
The plastic straps are too weak for my uses and
I'd like some kind of ability to see the hands at night, that one I posted has both illuminator and glowing hands.

I did look at G-Shocks but are far too much bulky, I need to use my hands in tight places at work and G-Shocks would be a big hassle, given the fact that I already wear safety gloves over them.
Anyway thank you, seems like at least Casio would be your brand of choice too.

>> No.14661586

>>14661564
Casio will probably have the most choice.

There is a timex expedition with digital/analogue face might be a good try?

It will probably be slimmer than a gshock and more robust than what you have atm

miring your tuna hard. Gotta say though, I like the SBBN015 dial style better. The crop circles go well with the case shape and there's no weird half circle at 3.
Do you usually wear it on a NATO? Does it flop around at the center because of the long width? I've never actually owned a watch this wide
>>14662238

Thanks, I just got the watch last week. Then days later I found out about Heimdallr watches, fuck if I'd have known these existed, I probably would have picked up 2 of them instead of the real deal. >>14662339

>>14662345
It's an amazingly built watch so far. Absolutely insane lume application too.
I was surprised that it came on the waffle because it's on a cheaper looking rubber in the pictures. I don't know what the $50 ones are like but it has a plasticy feel while still being soft and pliable. mildly stretchy as well. The tuna strap is just the ebay standard lint magnet rubber, comfy but smells like chemicals and always looks dirty.

Yeah the older style crop circle dial with the scored hands is much better than the current tuna design. A lot of them have that half circle next to the date and my autism goes wild seeing it.
cons so far are:
>kinda grindy crown when you screw it in, use and some mineral oil would fix that
>needs more AR coating because of that heavy dome but that's just a nitpick. that blue sheen on the 62mas is very cool though.
>bezel is a little stiffer than you would want (but very smooth) but I don't have a problem turning it, mineral oil would also fix this if you care.

The bezels on both have literally 0 backplay/sloppiness by the way. Both are 120 click, the 62mas is stiffer than an SKX or tuna but not hard to turn while being notchier and louder than them. The tuna sounds more like a seiko but stiffer and feels notchier because of that. Both thankfully line up with the dial and chaper ring, was very worried about that.
