This thread is about the appreciation of utterly amazing and truly stunning timepieces ($2,500,000+) and the sense of pleasure that comes with relaxing with a couple of lines of PCP while enjoying your utterly amazing and truly stunning timepiece, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make an utterly amazing and truly stunning timepiece.

If you buy one you will never have sex.

I found that if I turn the crown back slightly when setting the time on my seiko 5 I can get the seconds hand to stop on the watch, and turning the crown forward will set it moving again. Is this bad for the watch?

>> No.14635449

>>14635271
Honestly it just blatantly is. Tougher than a seiko 5, same price, better history, better accuracy, and more features.
Only thing is that the fine details isn't great. My hands are slightly off and the lume dots are clearly put on by hand.

>> No.14635451

>>14635447
No, it's not. Don't do it so much that the second hand starts moving backwards though, that can damage the pallet jewels.

>> No.14635455

Work is telling me I can't wear metal wrist bands because they dont break if it gets caught on shit. I dont see how, they're both held on by the same tiny little pins.

Rubber bands are required but they're so FUCKED I probably won't even wear a watch anymore.

>> No.14635489

>>14635451
ah, so does that just get the pallet fork and balance wheel to stop moving then? I was worried it was grinding gears or something. Thanks for helping a retard out. This will make it a bit easier to get the seconds hand right.

>> No.14635497

>>14635489
Basically it takes advantage of a poorly adjusted canon pinion. It puts reverse torque into the gear train (ideally the canon pinion slips when you adjust the hands via the crown; in this case it doesn't). When you backhack, you put in just enough torque to balance out the torque from the mainspring, so as far as the escapement is concerned, the watch is just wound down, and they stop moving. Too much, and the torque in the gear train goes the other way (you're actually winding the mainspring at this point), and the escapement runs backwards.

Ingersolls look intriguing, but I hear they go bad rather quickly, had one, but sent it back because of a scratch on the inside of the glass. They are also rather huge, a lot of their watches being 45mm. The brand itself has been bought, sold and bankrupt several times. I think even now they are just selling the rest of the stock, or have their watches available only from third party sellers. Tissot Visodate is a similar style, or some MontBlanc offerings if you dont mind going for a non-watch brand.

As far divers/tool watches go it's hard to be Marinemaster 300 Tuna with the 7C46 movement like the SBBN031 or related models, otherwise look for Citizen's like the BN0190 or some of the newer field watches like the BJ7110 (Blackbezel+black inner+yellow indices looks lovely).

As far as pilots watches go you could always try to get a solid 7A28 (or 7A38) or one of the simpler flightmasters.

The waffle dial texture, the overuse of blue and the unframed date window (the blue also looks really over saturated but that might just be the photo). If the dial was plain matte white, the indices in steel and text in black, and the date window had a steel frame, it would be decent looking. As is though it just feels a bit off

Here OP. You're right to not to want to spend anything on watches. Just stick with quartz until you're willing to spend the big bucks. Timex, (Weekender/easyreader/expedition), citizen (ecodrive) casio and Seiko (solar) should do you nicely at the cheapo end of the spectrum. Citizen sells functional watches at reasonable prices. You can buy a solar pro-master diver from them for $80-$150 (depending on where you shop) that will practically never need a battery replacement, is very accurate, has excellent lume, screw down crown, and is ISO certified.

Seiko's recently discontinued SKX007 used a decades old mechanical movement that stops if you don't wear it for a day, for $250. They are replacing it with a similar looking watch for +$100, no ISO certification, no screw down crown, 100m less WR, and a similarly shitty movement.

Seiko is a bloated fashion shitter at this point. Every watch that made them famous for value is being rereleased at +50% retail price (with the exception of cocktail time, which they downgraded and mutilated). They saw people liked the Monster/Alpinist/etc, so they simply doubled the price of them. The Seiko will probably looks nicer than the Citizen, but that's about it.

Basically consumerism is bad. Watches over $100 are clearly a luxury in the 21st century. Don't let shekelstein and vapid whores tell you that you need to spend your time acquiring trinkets to have sex and look successful. This applies to Rolex too. There are enough Saudi royals crushing Rolexes under the weight of a thousand whores to keep horology in business without you spending your hard-earned cheddar on them.

Save your money, resist the urge to buy plastic sculptures of anime or video game figures. Use your cash on experiences and activities. When you die, you leave all the plastic shit, watches, cars, everything behind. You are really only borrowing it from the person who will pick it up after you die. Remember that shekelstein wants you to think you enjoy watches, that they make you happy. It's a failing of humans that we seek validation in totems, even today.

Sorry if I ramble I am drunk. You can still find a seiko turtle for cheap, usually the Pepsi dial version. Match it with a strapcode bracelet.

A dive watch is the PERFECT outdoors watch. 200/300m COSC rating is an absolute peace of mind. You can stuff your arm all the way up a horse asshole with no problems. You didn't mention your wrist size but I assume you want a sub 40mm otherwise I would say get a elabore 2824-2 squale 1521 which nobody in these threads ever talk about. Sub 40mm dive watches under $1000 are for some bizarre reason very hard to find. I honestly cannot think of a good one I can confidently reccomend to you.

Alpinist.... The new alpinist still have the potential to be good. I have to admit that seiko's actions in the last two or three years have been pretty nasty. All we know is the price and the movement. It could be a completely new design with more money being spent on the product's manufacture. It's immature for you to drop the thought so quickly.

It seems that I keep coming back to this citizen field watch. I have other watches but after a few months I just go back to this one.

What I like (or don't hate):
It's solar powered. The watch is less than 40mm in size, but doesnt seem too small because it the face takes up a bulk of the diameter and it doesnt waste space with an extra thick bezel. The case is also quite thin and doesnt sit on the wrist like a tuna can because it doesnt waste case height having a raised hour ring.

Citizen and seiko have a few other automatic and solar powered field watches but most of them are gigantic or have this thick hour marker ring and a thick compass marker ring.

I am now thinking of getting a seiko, sbdc053 since it seems nicely proportioned, or maybe even the sbdc063, or a mini turtle or a mid sized casio protrek, but I suspect after a while the bulk of the watch will make me return to the citizen.

How do these "affordable luxury" watch companies get away with their shitty chrono designs.

The watch dials are always too big for the movement so they have 3 dials crammed in the very centre of the watch and then the rest is empty.

Surely people can tell it just looks odd?

Half the time the hands are too small for the case and the minute ends 2/3 of the way out.

It baffles me

They get away with it because the majority of their customers are Facebook-tier normalfags who don't even know what a chronograph is. Odds are that a lot of them never actually use the chrono function and just think having more sub-dials is a sign of higher quality or some shit.

Ever see a watch as just kinda boring and dated looking, then really warm up to the design? I really disliked 90s Omega Seamasters but something about them has really been appealing to me lately. I only have an amfib so a not familiar with the kommd, but if it's at all like all other hand wound watches I've owned there is a problem I would think with buying, as you mentioned in your previous post, an amfib and just removing the rotor: amfibs have screwed down crowns for water resistance and for protection underwater. Handwound watches usually don't. Vostok crowns feel fiddly (it's part of the design), and I would not want to have to unscrew that shit on the daily just to wind the watch. Kommd should be able to be wound without moving the crown out to any other position. Less chance for fuckery and breakage.
How WR do you need the watch? If you're not swimming with it just get the kommandirskie.

I have a few Seiko divers and my dad's Rolex.

Rolex is basically a safe queen and doesn't see the light of day except for special occasions.

I wore the Turtle and SKX009 as daily beaters until I found this little Citizen field watch on amazon for like 50 bucks.

This is the most comfortable little watch I own and is pretty much my beater during the workweek while my divers come out during the weekend.

Only gripe is the shape of the hour and minute hands, but that's probably just a subjective opinion. A lot of people hate on the band it comes with but at least for me it's very comfortable.

If you can find it cheap, go for it. It's a very nice little watch.

I literally only buy and wear one watch at a time. So far "decent" doesn't equal expensive. Some fancy automatic movement gets fucked up when I slip and hit the deck, or it gets scratched and instantly loses $500 in value. Sub-$700 quartz watches are where it's at.
