I rocked this when I was a parking lot attendant at home depot and a busboy at a restaurant when I was 17. It's been caked in every combination of smelly wet shitty material imaginable and bumped and scraped against every hard surface I can think of. Still worked great and looked decent. My only complaint would be it's a little small but it's the same size as your Timex.

tl;dr I couldn't afford the Seamaster when I bought it, or I'd have gotten the Seamaster.
That said, for the price it's alright. They go for $749, but they routinely have sales, so I got mine at 15 % off.
I don't really have anything to base my opinions about quality on, as it's my first mechanical watch and first diver watch, but it feels and looks solid enough.
>Accuracy
As you can see from the photo, it's running about a minute too fast, and that's two weeks after I last set it. Can't really complain about that.
>Lume strength
Oh, it can get pretty strong, but it fades pretty fast. I haven't tried taking it underwater, but it's readable for 20something minutes in a pitch dark bedroom.
>Bracelet
Not much rattle in it, little 18mm ratcheting extension that's surprisingly tight. It also came with a rubber strap, I think it's the same stuff they use in Isofrane straps - At least it has that vanilla smell I read is supposed to be characteristic of it.
>Crystal
4mm domed sapphire with inside AR coating, it says.
I'm really hesitant to write too much about it before I've used it for a while longer, but so far it's working well enough.
If you don't mind my asking some questions in return, what year is your Seamaster from? Have you had it long? I really liked the look of the vintage Seamaster 300, but I suppose I could get used to the new ones in time.

There are a couple different methods used in different twin quartz watches but the basic idea is that the difference between the two crystals varies predictably with temperature, which allows for temperature correction. This article is a pretty decent intro to haq methods.

BUT the second hand is fucked up. It's fine for about half the way around, then starts missing the mark, then it starts jumping so far it'll skip over entire second marks, then comes back, and miraculously still keeps accurate time.

Since Amazon is so easy on returns you could just buy one and see how it is and return it if it's bad.

Seiko turtle guy here. After three days it's running about +9 per day. I've never really been into automatics so is this normal for cheap mechanical watches? I know the "official" specs are +30s but I don't understand how anyone could live with that. Have quarts movements given me unrealistic expectations?

Yes.

Try laying it on its side when you're not wearing it. They'll generally run a little slower in this position. Lay it face up and it will run a little faster.

desu, automatics are a meme. and don't get how people act like they are actively experiencing the movement. just for what? to see it swoop/tick super close when you decided to check the time for 2 second which you don't even notice the second hand.

literally paying a lot more for something waaaaay less accurate just to larp about an emp attack and still having a watch. or for it to be a lifetime item but would end up selling/buying more watches before it gets serviced, if ever .

Ive transitioned to pretty much all quartz except for 1 watch which is automatic.
was just sick of the watch being a few minutes late by the end of the week.

the automatic is just one I would only wear on a random day and doesn't have a date so I just set it for the day then forget about it until next time I decide to wear it.

not really. Performance and how well a movement was regulated from the factory are 2 different things. A watch that runs exactly 9 seconds fast every day has the potential to run +/- one second.

But it's all about the craftsmanship anon. CNC operators making $5 an hour hitting the big green button every minute, and Chinese peasant women sitting in long lines assembling all the parts your pre-programmed computer-controlled machines have made. Think of the CRAFTSMANSHIP.

I didn't fall for the automatic meme. If I could have gotten this watch with a solar or battery movement I would have, but I've been in love with the cushion case ever since I sold an old one on consignment for somebody else. I just have no idea what a mass-market automatic is supposed to run accuracy wise.

I _would_ intentionally buy an automatic if it was an example of the watchmaker's art or whatever, but I wouldn't wear it 24/7.

For a period I had to wear one and holy shit the phone grab is 10x slower and more annoying but I only prefer it if it is under and not at the traditional location. and can confirm it's pretty nice. Much higher quality than the timex (nicer details, sweep seconds, thicker band, etc.)

However prior to this I wore a timex weekender and it was fucking indestructible. I'd throw it ten feet onto concrete to demonstrate for people how resistant it was. Caseback came off when I dropped it in a gym shower (while showering) and it was fine after I put it back on. It definitely is less slick and detailed than the seiko though.

Haven't beat up the seiko as much, but it seems pretty reliable.
