I didn't like it, actually. The domed crystal got scratched on everything and reflected the sun from every angle when you were trying to read the fucking thing. The backlight was a cool idea but that button would hit stuff all the time and ran the battery down. Bought it for $50 and sold it for $75 two years later. I guess it has a big fan following.

The Seiko is going to be my first automatic watch. I hate the idea of mechanical watches being so inaccurate and flimsy, even $6K Rolexes, so I'm stepping out of my comfort zone just because it's basically the perfect looking watch for me.

If you buy one and end up enjoying it, consider doing a light modification of keeping the bezel insert but chancing the bezel edge to an aftermarket one like a coin edge, as well as modifying the seconds hands to something superior like a C3 lume yobokies second hand designed to imitate the old 1970's turtle lolly pop hands.

The weekend is once more upon us, I hope that we all enjoy it and take some well-deserved time off. This past month has been a little hectic on the professional side, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Onto the last example of my Halios collection: the Seaforth GMT. I bought this piece brand new from Jason when it first came out, and I've held it close like a guarded treasure ever since. If there's once candidate for "that watch" this would be it. Only time will tell I suppose...

Sure there are some who appreciate the art of watchmaking, but most of the time it comes down to "ayo this shit's shiny and expensive, gotta buy it to flex on these niggas". Do these people need 17 different daytonas? Fuck no. Do they even know what makes a daytona a daytona? Hell if they know, it has jewels on it and says rolex. Same reason Patek, AP, RM and Rolex watches are so popular. They cost a fortune and so they become a flex piece. And watch companies bathe in this shit, they know the only reason they create certain pieces are for retards like Drake to drop 1mil on them.

The only time watches (or clocks) become a hobby is when you actually make/modify/repair those watches.

Speaking as someone who has seen up close many Hublot and Richard Mille there really isn't that much difference. RM are designed to be fuck off huge, "exclusive limited editions" and extremely visible displays of wealth for an audience who want something to be that blatant and seemingly complex to impress plebs. Sure they have used some interesting materials in certain models but not enough to justify their price tags.

>>14616227
The price tag is a lot of the audience and the complexity- but on average Hublot does not pay attention to the detail and spend the thousands of hours that RM takes to build and design- That's why it is more desirable and considered to be above Hublot.

Hublot rehashes the big bang every year- (which is practically a rip off Daytona) and every year and takes out a part of the watch, makes it a skeleton, etc. Bad Rose gold & black strap = Profit

>Well RM does that also

RM's arent put out at the pace of Hublot, One is taking the same design and making it better- re-inventing it with every other movement that they could design to fit in the watch and the other is Rerelasing the same thing over and over- To compare one with the other is Ridiculous

First off, I think you're underestimating normies. You don't think everyone has had a "dude, what if you was fucking loaded?" conversation and sorted most anything by price: high?
Second, wouldn't you rather get watch mires from someone who knows or cares about what it is you have, rather than someone whose only responses are "what you pay for that?" and "you paid that much for a watch?" no matter what it is? If you find a watch you like and rock it, do you really need anything from someone whose chief accomplishment is buying a Rolex without noticing any of the other expensive watches in the store.
Though I can definitely get behind wanting a Rolex. Absolute classic pieces, signs of having made it, as someone mentioned above, and almost certain to maintain or appreciate in value, should you have to sell it.
