As far as crowd-pleasing ouds go, Boss Bottled Oud is only ok in my opinion. The apple note is actually pretty strong and kinda detracts from it. I'd get samples Oud Wood and Versace Oud Noir to try if you can. They're in the same ballpark and Versace is obviously much more affordable.

Don't know what being non ifra compliant means in terms of where you can sell your stuff, but if the maker isn't restricted to some most likely arbitrary restriction on ingredients the perfumer has more freedom to make a better than your average ifra compliant frag. If there's 1 in a million ppl who would get itchy from spraying a perfume with too much oakmoss that means they'll restrict the ingredient amount in the formula. I imagine some components restrictions are reasonable, like animalics for ethical reasons or exotic stuff from endangered plants, etc. But never heard of anyone dying for spraying too much eau sauvage 50 years ago.

Generally speaking, there’s a notion that in xerjoff the quality is there but the price tag is unnecessarily high given that most of their frags are quite safe and routine. I need help. I am not part of the niche. When I was travelling I had some time and went to a duty free shop to check some perfumes. I went to the tom ford part and tried the black orchid. I honestly felt in love with it and kept the "tom ford tester card" because I honestly loved the smell so much.

I tried it again now in a douglas and it is honestly not the same smell. The one from the duty freeshop smelled really smooth and manly while the other one that I tried smelled like "old lady" almost. Very (I dare to say) spicy. I've only tried Noir and Grey Vetiver EDP so far. Not that fond of Noir, too gothic unless I'm wearing a suit which I almost never do.
