ive been looking for something to replace my iron rangers. bought them off an old co-worker who barely wore them. they were nice at first but over time i just started to dislike the color of it.and also its a tad bit too big. i feel like theres a little too much toe space. maybe im just not wearing the right kind of socks or something though.

I got my calfskins refitted with millimeters spaced rubber treads after my half and half leather rubber soles started to give out, the grip is good but if you can, spring for half and half leather outer/rubber inner soles. i have brown and black boots. i guess the issue with black boots in general, imo, is they dont develop character like brown boots. its hard to see the wear, the scrapes and scuffs, on black boots. Thats why I dont think they look as good or age as well as brown

ah, yes. good question. im an expert at this. I'm 'that guy" who fake distresses his boots because hes too much of a pussy to actually abuse them for real. In terms of breaking them in, I dont think rubbing alcohol will do much. it does strip away some of the shine though. if you want to take it next level even, use nail polish remover. use lightly though because it can damage the leather.

in terms of easing in the break in process, whats worked best for me is putting on my thickest pair of socks, getting them soaking wet in hot water, and then putting my boots on for a few hours and walking around in them. yes it will be uncomfortable, but it will help the leather conform to your foot much faster.

I bought a pair of these because I have wide feet and it was cheap enough that I don't care if they fall apart in a year or two.

If you want an honest opinion on the quality, they're pretty garbage. I've worn mine for about a month now and there's a weird bump in the sole in the front of the right boot that hurts if I wear the boots too long. The stitching is very hit or miss and I can easily see the stitches fraying. The quality of leather is very poor, lot of loose grain on my pair. The outsole feels clunky and like it could pop off at any moment.

Just do yourself the favor, save up an extra chunk of change, and at the very least get Iron Rangers or something. Red Wing is probably the most durable boot you are going to find in the $300 price range and their leathers are gorgeous.

I dont have any issues with my thursdays. For a $200 boot I cant ask for much of anything more. Ive had them for two years now and theyre still comfortable, although I should have sized down a bit more. Any scuffs or scratches go away with mink oil which patina'd the boot nicely from the natural color I got it with. People need to stop being faggots about them.

Cleaned up the soles with scotch-brite and dish soap, put another thin layer of kiwi and gave it a quick buff with a rag

1. Is Clarks worth it? (i tend to have a problem finding sneakers due to them being too narrow from the middle or from the ankle, and i've never shopped clarks)

Construction is just different. They're handwelted instead of Goodyear welted. GYWing uses a machine stitched to a glued on rib. Handwelting handsews into a carved out holdfast. It allows for a very comfy fit as a result. Also, White's does a rolled welt, almost like a Norwegian welt vs Red Wing's standard GYW. Whites also uses midsoles for added comfort. Red Wing sews the welt directly to the sole.

I own those exact boots. I love how they look (it's been about a year and they're just the right amount of scuffed) but don't love how they feel. Unfortunately they've gotten less comfortable with time, not more; they've collapsed a little bit near the toe which makes them chafe against the top of my foot when I walk. (Yeah, they're the right size.)

I don't regret getting them, and they're fine for days when I'm not really doing a lot of walking, but I'd say be gentler with them than you might expect, because they don't age as gracefully as other Red Wings.

How did I do? Took the plunge and got my first 2 proper pairs of boots, Bexley Keystone Country Patina Chestnut and the Meermin Chestnut Country Calf.

The Meermins are the better shoe by all accounts but the Bexleys aren't bad either (even if they aren't GYW, they're Blake Welted). I got 2 pairs because I wanted to be able to rotate and give the Meermins rest so they don't get run into the ground altogether.

Can some more people weigh in on Thursdays for me? At $200 I expect lower tier quality but I really don't care.
