Question. How do you afford these watches? I don’t know anything about watches beyond appreciating their intricacy and the aesthetic value but would love to own something like a Rolex Daytona. Obviously the price is well beyond what most people can afford. So to those here that have something similar in terms of price, how do you do it? The only way I can feasibly think of doing it is to get a loan, and the interest would be so obscene I can’t even justify that. Or, as this is 4chan, perhaps nobody here has anything expensive, but I know people on meagre wages with nice watches and still don’t know how they do it.

Cut your discretionary spending significantly. It’s easier to stomach if you naively believe that it will be the one watch to last the rest of your life (it’s virtually guaranteed not to be your last watch). Never finance a watch. Unless you’re very wealthy, you have to make sacrifices somewhere if you like expensive is watches. Maybe drive a Toyota instead of a Lexus.

Or you can face the reality that a significant portion of high end watch buyers are the mega wealthy who have either made or inherited fortunes and who don’t think twice about spending $20k or $200k on a timepiece.

I make a fair amount £40000 a year so 3-4k on a watch isn't the end of the world. I do need to save more honestly, this year has been spend spend spend. £10k on travel and £20k on living and some bills, £10k on gf. Normally I'd save £10k of that.

If I can cut a short trip out and don't go crazy through the year (new laptops, cameras, phones and pc) I can normally get an Omega or something like that every year. Not this this year though.

Buying new car this year so, probably nothing this year aswell :( ah. I I've played with the idea of buying a £1000 watch but I dont think it would hold up in my collection.

Depends on the automatic, if you're looking at dressier pieces it'll probably be fine. Just check the thickness if you're concerned.
For other "business casual" watches at that price range you can look at entry level glashütte original, or if you stretch a little, entry level Jaeger LeCoultre. You could even get a Rolex OP for around that I think, but honestly my choice would be to save a bit more and find a JLC master control (picrel)

Yes. Grand Seiko has been very diligent about doing press and marketing events that increase awareness. It’s anecdotal but I have heard and read their sales are way up at independent retailers.

Lads I am about to buy a PVD case Rolex Milgauss Tourbillon 'label noir' replica from here
https://puretimewatch.io/milgauss-pvd-label-noir-tourbillon-v9f-best-edition-on-pvd-bracelet.html

Then I am replacing the dial to be sterile (to get rid of Rolex logo (making it a homage not a fake)) and constructing a new dial from 0.5mm thick sheet of mother of pearl using this https://www.rothkoandfrost.com/materials-c25/small-blanks-c77/incudo-white-mother-of-pearl-inlay-blank-p661#attribute%5B22%5D=1352

Then I will construct hour markers out of fragments of a Steve Jobs black turtle neck won at auction using this https://shop.minimuseum.com/products/steve-jobs-turtleneck

I also will have megalodon tooth 12 o clock from same source and have also sourced foil from a NASA space shuttle that I will wrap around the end of the milgauss lightning bolt.

My questions I pose to you all are:

1. Has anyone done this combination before

2. Is this a good idea. Total cost will be less than $1k which I think is good value for a tourbillon watch made from steve jobs turtleneck mother of pearl megalodon tooth and with rolex style design. I want a seagull tourbillon (but NOT with any gold, only silver/steel, and ONLY this new fake rolex tourb has that) with a good dial and currently none exist

Thanks anon. It'll be a mix of business and and business casual attire. And yes I was thinking of something to wear on the daily which is why I wanted it to be versatile. Something that would go decently well with a suit but also wouldn't look to formal with more casual clothes. Nothing really "must have", pretty open to different designs :)

There are a few nitpicks with the CW, like they really need to work on their branding and logo, but other than that it seems like a super solid watch for about $1100.

Interesting you say that about Sinn, because one of the most consistent praises I have seen with them is how good the Bracelets are.

The VPO is really special, especially in its price range. Some reviews say that having the Miyota 9015 is a downside but I thought that was a decent movement generally? In any case I don't own a 9015 watch yet so might be nice to have one in my collection.

I am also waiting to see what the new watches from Halios will look like. Wish I hadn't missed the Seaforth but oh well
