>> No.14566999

>This is not a fragrance to impress the opposite sex, or anyone in the general public who has a preconception of a 'proper' cologne ought to smell like - sweet, safe, crowd-pleasing. There is a brooding, dark quality to this that can be forbidding and off-putting to certain noses. I have had some people remove themselves discreetly from my vicinity while I was wearing this, as they could not stand it.

>It is a fragrance one wears to please oneself, first and foremost. I prefer to use it in solitary situations, when writing, listening to classical music, or reading religious or philosophical treatises. The depth of its scent makes it seem like I am in an olfactory fortress, secure from all outside interference.

What do you think about Shalimar Edp for a guy? I can't find it to sample but I've been reading a lot and the one caveat when someone mentions a man wearing it is the powdery smell. I'm fine with it, if it's similar to Dior homme, I fucking love the iris in Dior homme parfum. Everything about it sounds good to me, citrus opening, powdery, vanilla. What worries me is if it's gonna be too feminine with the flowers its got.

Hey /frag/. Haven't been in here in a while.
Just ordered some samples I'm excited to try.
Two from the Le Labo City Exclusives - Gaiac 10 and Mousse de Chene 30

I have yet to try a Le Labo that I really liked, but I have been wanting to try Gaiac for a while. I love woody 'soliflores' like tam dao and hinoki. I also tend toward lighter/ skin scents, so it should be up my ally.
MdC is the only other exclusive that piqued my interest, figured I'd try it while I have the chance.

I also got a sample of Bottega Veneta Olivo. Hoping for something like Philosykos without the sweet coconut and maybe a more prominent woodiness. Olive accord sounds interesting, have no idea what to expect.

Anybody taking advantage of the city exclusives?

I generally don’t like Le Labo, but Mousse de Chene interests me. Oakmoss, Patchouli, Pink Pepper. Some of my favorite notes. Let me know what you think of it.

Any Dutchies know if De Bijenkorf sells Le Labo or if I’d have to go to Skins? I can’t remember, but I also don’t think I’ve ever really looked for Le Labo before. Skins is a bit far from the hotel I stay at.

Because that's one of the most perplexing fragrances that are wearable at the same time. There are always three phases of initiation with CdG 2. First you're a normie who thinks it's just yet another weird niche scent. Then you get deep into niche and realize that there's actually way crazier stuff around. Once you get deep enough you realize that it's not that hard to make a challenging fragrance. The true art is to make an interesting thing that is actually wearable at the same time. CdG 2 belongs to the fragrance hall of fame of last 30 years by all measures.

it's quite a good overview. If you're a newbie then don't do the classic mistake of buying a full bottle that you think you love. First sample stuff, then buy small decants. If you went through 5-10ml and still love the scent, consider buying a bottle. Trust me, you'll develop your nose rapidly and start hating your first full bottle purchases soon after. It'll save you a lot of money.

Fougerefag here. I usually don't fuck with these "mass appealing" frags but I got this one for my birthday last month and just started wearing it to work, family gatherings, out with friends, to the gym, etc last week. Nothing has ever gotten me so many compliments in such a short amount of time. Erosfags can absolutely get suicided, Carbon is the real deal if you just want pussy and compliments. Not automatically obnoxious like Sauvage but you can easily make a Chad miasma if you spray a lot. And it's a fougere too (but not an aromatic fougere, more like a traditional one like Skin Bracer). :+)

>In seduction as in intimidation, intent is everything. A hack from Men’s Health, a magazine notable for the pectorals on its cover, wrote to me asking “How can a man maximize the influence of his cologne choices to attract the women he’s really interested in ?” Efficient mating strategies are good in principle, but this one is doomed. Waste time wondering which “cologne” pulls better, and your genes will spread only by lucky accident. A perfume should be right for the man, not for the job. Men’s fragrances fall in three categories, two easy, one hard, with some overlap between them. Category one: things that just smell great, like Chanel Pour Monsieur, De Nicolai’s New York, Guerlain’s Jicky, Dior’s Jules, etc. There are only two ways to screw up with these: if you put too much on, or if the rest of you is less evolved than the perfume. Category two: "monogrammed slippers" stuff like Floris 89, Eau d’Hermès, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Guerlain’s Habit Rouge etc.. These come with a fondness for biography, stocks pages and sighing labradors, and have nothing further to contribute to propagating the species.

>The third category is the trickiest: "Young Buck". This is where most men (even gay ones, surprisingly) need a course in self-awareness. The guiding principle is: if you think you should be wearing it, don’t. Perfumes like Miyake’s Eau Bleue, Saint Laurent’s Kouros, Lapidus Pour Lui are fashion accessories. Like most couture for women, they are not meant to be helpful, but to measure how much strain your beauty can take. Unless you’re made of pure, self-confident gold, stay away from their dissolving aqua regia. And, as you get ready to go out, consider Emmanuel Bibesco’s famous question: "Pourquoi pas rien ?".

I just tried it on the airport. The opening is warm and nice but nothing special really. We know that most of women are pleb though, so I believe they might like it. However I can’t find nothing strikingly sexy about it. Just a cost and well blended scent for colder weather. Moreover either I went nose blind or it’s gone from my skin after 4h.

There are multiple tiers
>the losers who are doing it as a "passion project" and spending a good chunk of their income on it
>losers who will succ for free sample
>losers who will praise anything for a bottle or two (these are the crackheads of fragrance youtube)
>shilltards getting multiple bottles (probably most common)
>shilltards getting sponsored by retailers (e.g. fragrancenet)
>shillchads in contact with marketing departments and higher-ups at brands
>the 1% who are getting funded by the actual parent companies

Recommendations from this
>YSL very good, doesnt last long enough
>aventus not for a long time do you need it if you start with cheaper. also dont blind buy go sample other expensive ones that might be better. Really bad performance on my batch too, but smells great.
>sauvage, standard, stable, basic, foolproof, if someone aged 18-25 has one scent its this.
>eros, a bit dumb and overpowering, smells ok, but way too intense for anywhere thats not a nightclub, I havent worn in at least a year.

My personal favourite for everyday is Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, top notes not spectacular if your sampling in a shop, but lasts all day and smells good after an hour.

Kiste is fairly sweet/fruity, but it also very much has a “country” vibe to it. The peach-heather-honey-tobacco thing smells like an old-timey general store in rural Georgia or something. It’s just very homey and cosy, just sort of matches the vibe he was going for to me.
