Current Rolex models are awful. Anything with maxicase just look liek shit and make you look like you're trying way too hard, the explorer is boring and too big, Datejusts and daydates are too dressy for everyday use, Oyster Perpetuals have bad proportions and Daytonas are just far too expensive.
The only acceptable ones are the 40mm Explorer II and pre-maxicase subs and GMTs.

I used this video to tell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upAJE_XhT2Y&t=4s

- The hour markers are gen
- daytona wriiting has correct 3d shape
- bezel has correct planitum painted numbers
- crown could be real or fake, cant see in this lighting.

- Actually the knurls of the crown look a little too soft on the edges. thats closer to rep than gen.
- the numbers on the 3 dials look more only slightly like the rep than the gen

honestly its a tough call. Id need more zoom and different lighting

so many people write stuff like 'sure nobody can tell its a replica. but YOU will know, and buying a real watch you earnt feels so much better'

I will never relate to those people as I use 80/20 rule everywhere. I would feel better buying the replica then sending the rest of the money to malaria nets to africans. now that would be a justified good smug feeling. but paying big uncle rolex is all these slaves want to do

You can get a real tourbillon for $700 if you buy a fake IWC portugese tourbillon. I would feel all smug about having a real tourbillon, but these people would hate the real tourbillon and rather have a stainless steel submariner that they have to wait 2 years for the 'opportunity' to pay 10x the cost on

Its pure mimetic desire and its pure c*ckoldry

I wouldn't wear either of those. If the watch is for fashion then dont spend less than 1k for a gen, or 500 for a fake.

If the watch is for function then get a smartwatch for the HRM and sleep monitor. But women give me weird looks for wearing one and its beta. So I wear either nothing or a fake hublot (which looks nice).

I would not wear a fake rolex. I would not wear a real rolex either. its hypebeast for boomers.

I wear a fake hublot classic fusion. And I will wear a fake Cartier Santos and Panerai Sub. They all look great and are reliable well built fakes too.

I just bought a 450 pair of crocket&jones off ebay for 60, then a 250 shirt for 25 just now. Both 2nd hand but in good condition.

I am a fan of getting 90% of the value for 1-10% of the cost.

>>t. someone who was gifted fake rolly shit and bought 1 fake indistinguishable patek from thailand, then grew up

those are both shit tier fakes. have you seen how good real replicas at $500 price point are?

But you guys are whiteknighting. To be a whiteknight you also need to not be getting laid by the girl. And you guys dont have Daytonas, Pateks, APs.

You are whiteknights defending the honor of a maiden who is disgusted by you but wishes to use you. Most of you will never get the girl, and if you do then it will pre post-wall after chad has had her (in the watch world we call this 'vintage')

I think it's cool if you wear the right clothes with it. It has a futuristic/offworld look to it. That being said, I personally do not like watches that remind me of early arthropods in daily life. How's it keeping time?

I'll wade into the respectful discussion about fakes. Having owned a fake or two, my thoughts are simple. The fake is for the look, the genuine is for your heart. It's that simple. A fake speedy is a fake to me no matter what, even though the Alpha version of the speedy 'looks' the part without a problem. Same with fake Daytonas and all the rest; they complete 'the look', and the performance of the watch itself is irrelevant.

That being said, I don't have a problem with fakes at all if people want to spend money on them knowing that they are fakes. If someone spends real money on a fake (i.e. selling a fake at the price of the genuine article) then I'd be the first to say that's wrong. But if the person knows they're buying a fake, then who really cares?

Finally, I don't judge people on what they wear, either watchwise or otherwise. I just them on their actions. Respectable people can be found wearing sandals and pjs....and many awful people can be found wearing suits.

on replicas: they will be manufactured, they will be bought. do as you wish. but the very fact youre in a thread that spergs out (in a good way) on legacies, brands, engineering, materials, etc. should be a strong enough internal indicator towards striving for authenticity--if nothing else but for personal, internal enjoyment

watches are: a signalling good, a weak store-of-value, an engineering feat, the only acceptable male jewelry, ..., and in last place a functional piece that tracks time somewhat as good as quartz/phones

humans are built to rationalize. do you claim to only want a watch for functionality? look at a smartphone. want one to impress normies? get any replica, they won't be able to tell the difference and you'll get an ephemeral social boost. but there's much grey area between those two polarities, and it's a difficult sell to enthusiasts when there are so many great genuine pieces (with their own history and appeal) to chase

an approximate comparison would guys who put a ferrari et al. body on top of a pontiac fiero. it may pass normie judgment, but not the lens of a legitimate fan (nor do you want to show off fake shit to people who care, b/c then yr just bein cringe)

wy botha?

Regret buying the Omega and not having the discipline at that time to go for a Sub. Choodah was a gift, but I like it a lot. SKX is the best thing you can buy for the money, despite it not having hacking or handwinding. Casio still makes me as happy as anything I've owned. The vintage watches are where my heart is. Full metal ones are made in Japan, sweaty.

Yeah. Got one back when they came out. Pretty scratched up now but at least not on the crystal (which be aware is mineral glass on a fucking $500 watch).

I am not a watch expert but isn't the perpetual refers to the calendar which is missing?

Yeah, it looked great on his wrist. It was prominent throughout the entire movie.

"Oyster Perpetual" is just a Rolex trademark or something. Nothing to do with a perpetual calendar.

I understand your confusion with the term perpetual.
Usually perpetual is used to discribe perpetual calendar watches, basically watches that can count the months and the leap years, so in theory that watch doesn't need any adjustments.
Rolex calling the watch oyster perpetual, oyster is referring to the case style and the perpetual is talking about the self winding rotor, so in theory that watch is perpetual, it will work forever, doesn't need to be wound.

Looks pretty cool but I think there is some excess you could cut off

Why not reduce it to 3? The yellow f91w, the seamaster and one of the 33mm vintage?
