>> No.14525110

I think it was RRP of about $490 so getting $250 was about 50% off. It depends on the watch, depends on the salesperson and your want of it. I don't really have any issues taking a strongarm haggling tactic against any jewelers ever so that helps. Swatch company watches are pretty lax about discounts too so that helped. Invicta's are only decent if you can get them for super low prices, like their quartz dive-styles under $35 or their Pro Diver automatics for under $60. The automatics use a pretty good Seiko movement for the money: hacking, handwinding. The issue is Invicta is a shitty brand otherwise, horrible customer service, focused too much on godawful monoliths of watches, and their good watches are just Rolex knockoffs.

I've thought about it for a long time, but to be honest there is no need. I never have to resize a bracelet once it is sized to me, so that's useless. I don't buy enough watches to warrant the issue, and as the next bracelet watch I plan to buy is gold (Day-Date Rolex) I wouldn't want to try altering the bracelet on that except at the boutique with one of their 'experts'. If I fuck up the gold, that's my problem...but if they fuck it up, it's theirs.

And yes, I'm drunk as fuck, so DrunkSeagullAnon is back, just for tnight. Why is chan so slow?

How often do you resize your bracelets? (i.e. take out links or put them in?) I've nver had to for my Seamaster....and now that the nightflyer is set, I have no need to do so either. It's realy comfy, btw, and the almost pvc black finish is fucking prisine at the moment (though I don't know if it'll stay that way). I've always wanted a watch with a slide rule in it,and now I have one without paying Breitling prices...though one day perhaps the Cosmonaute has my name on it.

How are you?

>Another stock foto because fuck...but this is the precise model I got because they don't make American ones with this bracelet anymore in black black.

Yeah...It's really kind of sad though, when you think about it. What I mean is, the name is all they have. There's no real world practicality to owning one, it no longer has the impact on status that it once had for a man, and once the Chinese and the Arabs stop buying them, well....they're shit out of luck economically.

I've always wanted a Breguet...even though I think their watches are ugly as fuck. Just for the name, mind you...their history is untouchable. I've bitched and moaned about JLC Reverso here, so I'm not saying that again....who else. I love Vacheron Constantin, but only for their really simple clean watches. I go further than that; wear whatever the fuck you want because we now live in a post 1980's society where the name actually mattered.

Think about it. Does anyone look down on anyone else for wearing a grand seiko instead of a rolex? Does anyone care if someone wears a vintage Longines instead of a Lange? The bottom line is that it doesn't matter anymore except to collectors or frauds.

There are always two parts ot this argument: Either we argue about the merits or pitfalls of specific movements, brands, etc., or we argue about the ...fuck me, I actually can't remember where I was going with this. Jesus...am I that drunk, or that old...or both? I'll remember soon.

Anyway, the point is that today no one cares except people who care, but it's not something that is socially unacceptable or something that would lead to public ridicule.

To me they're not. I have never liked the proportions (outside of the 18th C. pocket watches), but it's a personal thing. I think Lange has it down pat, but if I were to go outside of that aesthetic but still go with frenchified designs, it's obviously one by Daniels or his protege. I love the look.

Understand, when I say 'I find x ugly as fuck', it doesn't mean it actually IS ugly. It just means that I don't find it attractive. Something that is objectively ugly is...I don't know...Ladie's Panerais?

Jesus fucking christ anon.

1) the subdials are above the centerline, but not enough to suggest the golden rule. So, the result is looking like an owl with down's syndrome.

2) The hour markers suggest a railroad style watch pocket watch, however the font is so poorly designed (large at the top, slender at the bottom) that it distracts the eye instead of informing it.

3) The crown is not flush with the casing...an accident waiting to happen, but obviously either design flaw or casing/installment error.

4) The face doesn't look luminescent; if it was, I could pass the idea, but if it's not, then it sucks.

5) Lugs are surprisingly appropriate for the watch, so that's not bad. The extra leather in the strap suggests a nato design but using leather. Ugly and shit.

6) Did i mention it looks like an owl with down's syndrome?

>>14527537
FUck that. I've met watch people in the real world and they're either rich people who larp (i.e. they collect watches like wines, not because of their innate fascination but because they can afford it and no one else can't) or they're turbo autists who have 3 awesome pieces in their collection and keep talking about the same three because they'll never be able to afford any more. Boring.

>Fancy gay bullshit
lol Fuckhing hell, I'd almost agree with you on that. The problem anon is that that's what watches have essentially become unless you're going full Zenith. Their designs have balls, but nothing else.

Oh, that's another line I think is ugly. Rolex Cellini. They can't make a good looking dinner dress watch today to save their life. It's astonishing to me, actually, because their rectangular watches from the 30's (the prince is awesome) are perfect.

>>14527557
Wow, then you must live in the last place they do. They don't in the business world in North America, not anymore. In the Arab world, definitely yes, but then again they're comparing who has the biggest yacccchht there. In normal society, where watches used to matter (think upper-level management at a bank or something like that), it doesn't matter anymore. What matters is what 'experiences' you can buy. Where you skiied last, where you jumped out of a plane last, etc.

A watch is a watch is a watch now. Be highly suspicious of anyone who judges others negatively by the watch they wear; these people are frauds.

>>14527562
Well, you did ask me to 'roast' it. A present is always a present, and the whole damn point is that you remember who gave it to you with a smile. I have all the watches I've ever been gifted, even if they're ugly as shit to me. I wear them when I can because it reminds me of people I can still say 'hello' to and people who are now long dead. That's the point. Sentimentality aside, that's why I'd never buy anyone a watch unless it was a fucking good one that I know they'd appreciate. Watches are personal extensions of our personality...you can't buy someone that if they're a thinking serious human bean.

That's true. The main watch that has yet to be fucked with and hopefully never will is the Monaco. However, the reputation has been pretty severely damaged and it would take quite a lot of time, money, and effort to fix it. With the reliability issues of their watches, general overpricing, and poor business decisions (such as the aforementioned Chinese produced GPS smart watch) they have really devalued their brand and left the hole to be filled with more Brietling and Omega. it's a very well made piece - sapphire and all. radio/solar means no maintenance, ever. probably the best everyday piece for a practical man. absolutely cannot be beat for the price. and now they have a titanium model - the lightness and comfort is sublime, def worth the extra $100. not to mention the style is quintessentially polos-and-chinos. Also perfect for smaller wrists.

p.s.: the original bracelet looks much better in person than in the pictures, but throw i in navy leather rally just because you can.
