i don't really care about the batch shit within years themselves cause the smell difference is either zero or minor. but between years, there must be a difference between 2010/11 aventus and 2019 aventus. people admit a difference in strength and quality between newer and older bottles. either IFRA regulations making creed use different materials and/or they got cheap and sold the same product with inferior ones to make more money

Sure, buying frag without trying it first would be pretty stupid. Also brands like Versace and Dior aren't even that expensive, chances are they have some free samples available for some of their frags.
Ask if they have some for the ones you want to try, if not a spray on the back of your hand shouldn't be a problem, but maybe find out how to test frags before.

It's mandatory to try perfume before you even consider of buying. Perfumes are much more complicated and actually determining if you like a fragrance through out it's life cycle (opening - mid - drydown) is necessary. That being said, my experience with boutique perfume clerks is much better than department store ones. Especially Dior, Chanel and Guerlain clerks are a treat to sniff along with. I can understand your anxiety as it is something I struggle with as well but it's not such a big deal. Use these kinds of interactions to little by little overcome your social adversities.

You can order a sample of Terre d Hermes and Fahrenheit at Fragantica for a couple bucks and I suggest you try it for yourself. Personally I don't quite like citrusy fragrances and thats the reason I disliked TDH, I was excited after reading its aroma profile but the whole day I could only smell an overpowering smell of oranges on myself.
As for Fahrenheit I actually like it as, being the son of a car mechanic, brings back fond memories of my dad's workshop; the drydown smells different for me for some reason, like some sort of fruit candy.
Anyway try them yourself and for your own opinion, also if you take my advice and order some samples, try maybe Guerlain L Homme Ideal it has some citric notes but its mostly a woody or gourmand fragrance in my opinion.

I've actually never tried either, they both look similar based on the notes, search them on Fragrantica to see.

Looks like the original smells a bit more fresh and marine, whereas the extreme would be sweeter with the tonka beans. I'd say you should see if you can find them both at a store and spray each on one of your wrists. Then you'll get an idea of which you like better

Same here, but I was 18 and too scared to wear it because I didn’t like to draw attention to myself. A few years later I got VPH which to this day is one of my favourites. That was in 2013. Last year I really got in to fragrances after I treated myself to Oud Wood. Within a year 3 became around 30.

Old spice was the first one I got as a christmas gift but I guess the first real one was Calvin Klein Eternity. When I was 15 pops took me to a shopping mall and there was this island with fragrances. I’ve chosen this one feeling anxious and guilty if that’s not too expensive for my dad as we were not particularly rich family and it costed around $100 there (I know) which was a lot back in Poland. He didn’t say a word though. I was using this bottle sparely boy only on special occasions and I guess I had it for 5 years. Now I’m a made man and buy my dad nice things at any occasion.

You understand that cedrat boise is every bit as synthetic as explorer right? Do you realize Aventus itself is 99% synthetic other than whatever fleeting citrus oils are in the opening?

People who complain about perfumes being “synthetic” are truly untermensch.

the "synthetic" complaint isnt about the ingredients themselves but about how chemically astringent the smell of the end product is, dummy. many perfumes don't at all seem "natural," i.e., life-like, realistic approximations or impressions that don't evoke something created in a lab

This. We know pretty much all frags are mostly synthetic aromachemicals. The point is that some frags smell incredibly artificial and cheap while others don’t.
