Personally I don't use a wide comb, but my fingers. Same thing I guess, you don't want to ruin the hold each strand has on another. I also highly recommend a pre-styler. I have a mousse and I can't get them to stay in any shape that isn't combed and/or angled downwards without it. Since it's heavy it's also a good idea to apply to the root, like it says. I try to "spread" the product up from the root so it stays up, kind of like the lower left pic, and then fine tune it with my hands before adding a bit of hairspray (not too much) to stick it in place.
So my routine with what I have, it's mousse pre-styler (makes it ready to hold shape) -> spray gel (towards roots then up to distribute) -> hair dryer to shape -> hairspray (to make sure)
Ideally you should be using a heat protectant. I don't because I go through cycles of cutting my hair a lot shorter (where I just apply a styling cream without pre-styler or hairspray and it's fine). The most important thing is to not put too much product. This is why I use different things for when my hair is at different lengths. If I used my cream on my longer hair it would get weighed down and lose its hold.

Oh, forgot about that. I think your hairline is fine. /fa/ overreacts when it comes to these things and the consensus is always to buzz it all off. As long as you don't have a bald spot on your crown or a hairline receding so much that it's become obvious, I'd say you can pull off any hairstyle you want. I've got a more pronounced widow's peak than you so I can confidently say yours is no problem. And if it ever is you'll figure out how to incorporate it into your hairstyle with experience.

Thanks brother, but I was moreso asking how I should style it while it’s growing out. My scalp is recovering from an infection and I suffered from temporary hair loss. After shaving it, my hair has grown in just as thick as it was before. I’ve been using minoxidil to ensure consistent growth as my scalp suffered quite a bit of trauma. No one in my family has gone bald or suffered any notable hair loss. Will post juicy pics of the infection in a min.
