The other thread has only 100 comments. Why would you start a new one?

I have a 22mm lug to lug smart watch. I bought a patek aquatnaut 21mm strap for it. Any advice on filling in that 21mm gap? I really think the aquanaut strap is 100 times better than every other watchband. I was thinking about adding a 1mm rubber washer.

Alright 4chan, i need real help
so i have those IMPERIAL GENEVE watches from my uncle, who was a rich man, back in 2000s he bought them in UAE for 1500$, and they are sort of broken, a little bit dirty & there is a little bit of (probably gold?) paint scratched off
how do i PROPERLY fix them? i have bought a battery for them and brought them to a watch master who replaced the glass BUT that motherfucker stole the real Sony battery and gave me the fake one, so when they stopped working again i have brought them to the dude who had the batteries, gave the watch to him and while he was inserting them he broke the glass, and now sometimes they work, and sometimes not
where can i find a REAL watch master who can fix it and how much will it cost?

Ask around if you have any acquaintances with tools to change the battery.

If you don't have any then buy a toolkit and change them yourself, cleaning is not hard either.

If you bring expensive vintage watches to watchmakers, 90% of them will try to rip you off.

I had a $2000+ JLC that needed a battery change, three different watchmakers asked for $500-1000 to repair the internal damage caused by the leaked battery. I took it out, cleaned it up a bit, replaced the battery and it works flawlessly ever since.

I showed my Hauwei smart watch to a friend in a club on Saturday night. As it had my heart rate and we were dancing.

He asked if it was fake and I said 'no, what? Its hauwei, its from china and was £100 but it has the best sleep tracker and heart rate'.

He concluded it was a fake apple watch. wtf? its better than apple watch to me as the heart rate charting is better.

Why are people brand concious about smart watches? its far more important that you have a new watch than a brand name with smartphones and smart watches. Since the chips and AMOLED gets better every few months.

Anyway it shows the power branding has on normies where it doesnt even matter - in smartwatches. Branding does matter more for mechnical.

I dont get the hate towards smartwatches / fitness trackers and the love people have for CASIO quartz shit. I got banned from /rwatches over this

Thanks. It's hard to say. There are radium versions of this same art deco dial that would have been phased out by the early 60s, so I'm guessing this is mid to late 60s. It's hard to believe because the condition is immaculate. Whoever worked on this watch knew what they were doing too, it has fresh seals and did not leak when I dunked the case. No screw down crown though which makes me nervous.

Search the Gruen Ocean Chief, it's a diver that goes for around 5k because it has a similar case to the original Breitling Superocean. This is the same watch in a more pedestrian squared case. Not many of either type were made and it's very tough to find information on them. Gruen as a company broke up in the mid 50s and didn't survive the quartz crisis, but they were a step above Waltham, Elgin, Hamilton in their time.

I have testing the heart rate myself in all sorts of ways. Its always correct.

I've compared it to high-end cycling machines that track heart rate - it matches them exactly.

I've counted my bpm over a minute at home, then the number is the same as the watch.

The stress monitor is useless. But the sleep monitor and heart rate monitor are both solid. The sleep tracker is done based on some massive harvard medical school quantified sleep study. I think they even share this data with them.

Its still unfashionable though. I want to get a rolex oyster perpetual to wear out. But its tough to give up these features. I sometimes wear two watches which is sacriligious i know

> I can imagine being able to read short text messages would be useful

I dont use it for that. I disabled all social media on it. Its only for heart rate, sleep tracking, time, stopwatch, timers, silent alarms, activity reminders, meditation app, compass (better than my phone), workout tracking, contactless payments/buspass, and it has find-my-phone-feature I keep using

I took the movement out first :^)

I keep hearing never dive with a vintage watch, but I'm not quite sure why not, other than that the gaskets are probably toast. If you can manage to find new gaskets that fit properly and everything fits snugly, I don't see the harm in introducing it back into it's native element. I personally wouldn't want to wear a dive watch that couldn't be dived in and I was banking on being able to waterproof this Gruen.

>> No.14467075

>>14467058
I'm glad that worked out well for you, it looks like a unique conversation starter and a piece that few would have in their watch box. Although I am much more of a fan of dive watches, I've been interested in dressier vintage pieces from 1940's Bulova watches to 80's quartz Omega Constellations. I haven't pulled the trigger on any certain example yet, but something really appeals to me about the vintage dress style and size. The Orient Bambino almost did it for me, but 40mm still feels like a lot for what it is.

You're in luck there because the market has yet to explode on vintage dress watches the way it has with sport and military watches. Gruen is mainly known for its dress watches from that era.

With the description of a dressy chronograph with similar looks to the Lange on a steel bracelet around 500 dollars, the Frederique Constant Persuasion Chronograph is the main watch that comes to mind. They have several different design styles, fall at 40 mm, and personally look better in the white dial variants in my opinion. Aside from that, the Undone Urban Killy Chronograph is a nice, vintage inspired customizable dressy chrono that looks particularly good in a black dial / gold case combo. If you absolutely need a mechanical for around that price though, the seagull 1963 air force chrono, while it may not fit the bill to a T, is extremely good value for money. Heritage, original styling, manual wind chronograph with a really reasonable 38mm wear and a gorgeous domed crystal. (Acrylic, mind you, but for the same purpose that the speedy reduced is)

I dont know why people are giving you shit for receiving an 18k gold Rolex. By all normie standards you have 'made it', certainly more than 95% of people posting here. I would much prefer an 18k rolex cellini over a Speedmaster.

Celinnis are underrated. For 2k you can be known as the guy with a gold rolex. Its normie-status-optimised.

No, the speedmaster is 50m water resistent, not 1000m.

Its the seamaster that has 1000m resistent.

The speedmaster is not safe to take into a shower. See my image

No it isn't because of the history behind Rolex? Or because of their impeccable quality. People just buy a rolex to show off. What a retarded faggot you are. Absolutely delusional. Guess what faggot. There are people that buy Omegas for the same reason.
