Watchnigger here, I need some advice from you guys. What's a reasonable price to have these old Speedmaster triple-dates serviced? It uses a slightly modified Valjoux 7751, which is like a 7750 with more boomer features.

A customer is thinking about having it serviced, and I'm certainly able to do it, I just have no idea on what price to ask. I don't want to look like a jerkoff that asks more than an Omega service center, and I don't want to undercut everyone else so bad the watchmaker mafia gives me a pair of cement shoes.

What's the price independents do these in the West?

Another fucking old FAGGOT pissed me off again. He came in with a Raketa calendar (same model as pic, only in Russian) that had its crystal cracked, fell out of place and acrylic shards dangling off the crystal and on the dial.

I recommended a crystal replacement for $15, but the cheap old fuck didn't want it, he said he only wanted the crystal popped back, despite me repeatedly warning him that this can't be considered a fix. I already took out most of the shards by this point. So I popped it back for free and that's that I didn't want to deal with this fucking cheap fuck anymore.

Hours later he comes back. The blind old fuck only just noticed that there's a gap so big missing from the crystal you could stick your pinky in there (I TOLD him the crystal is completely fucked, but the old fart of course wouldn't listen, "it's fine, it's fine"). He tells me I caused him property damage, by removing some dangling shards from a broken crystal. His idea was that I should have put back every piece of broken acrylic and the watch would have been fine in his book (naturally I'd never do a hackjob like that, especially not when it's my fucking reputation as a repairman).

So we had a shouting match a minute or two, kept telling me I caused him damages, I told him no, the crystal was fucked. So he left, called me a fraud watchmaker, I yelled after him something along the lines of "go fuck pennies somewhere else, good day", I can't remember verbatim.

So now I'm almost ready to ban old people with mechanicals from the store. They're the greatest fucking nuisance so far and constant troublemakers.

In my mind I helped, in his I ruined a still perfectly fine (i.e. cracked to fuck) crystal, after asking an obscenely large price ($15) for a repair.

I refused any non-solution shitjobs, I told him "a crystal replacement is the solution for this", exactly these words, like three times.

Then stick by what you said. Never a different way to deal with old fucking penny pinchers.

I worked in a phone/pc part/pcs/accessories shop 6 months ago and our standing rule about screen protectors is that employees will not under any condition stick it on.

Old people would beg and moan whether then bought a phone or not and we would say no, since then we are obliged to change it if we fuck up as an employee the store has to give him for free. Though if he asked one as a favor and didn't complain about he results it's we would.

Of course the old penny pinchers would complain if it wasn't good, and i would tell them to try themselves or go to some other place like the phone shop across the street that sold the same protector for 3 times the price.

Well, if they want to buy it then sure. More profits for the store and they get a 10% discount on all accessories on purchasing a phone. (even if they stack stuff that isn't related to their phone)

But when they are pushing you to put it on for them, and you aren't the biggest expert on the matter but say you wouldn't mind helping and they still get hissy afterwards that's too much. Hell, i remember some Thai lady came in, bought a Mate 20 and got a proper service and i talked English thought the process (Helpful since she can barely speak Hebrew).

Yet i installed the protector like shit, since it was a weird Hydrogel protector with no guide rails. 0 complaints from her.

Yes but its all about the particular specimen. I picked up a ks with help from a wiser anon who did all the hard work and even then there were problems, it was sold as 'serviced' with timograph proof showing +2spd,when it arrived to me it was losing 30 seconds a day. Had to take it to a private watchmaker to take a look at it and even then it came back to me with not much improvement. It all depends on the specimen.

Another choice is paying extra for heritage reissue models released in this decade that accurately reflects vintage watches created back when watch designers actually knew what the fuck they were doing. This is money going to waste, but it is a more reliable end.

If you wear it on the wrist, sure, but every package you order goes through customs. Not really, that's all shit I got off Ebay and Yahoo.jp. I only have a few watches that I bought off customers because the repair would have been uneconomical, and I offered to get it off their hands. Of course I bought them for reasonable amounts, let's just say fucking people over is bad practice in a profession that's mostly trust based. The ones I bought like this are:
>blue Komandirskie in the middle
Mainplate had a broken off post, completely uneconomical. Owner just bought a new Komandirskie, and I replaced the mainplate with a Soviet one. Even I spent more on it than just buying one, but it was for fun-
>Seiko 5 Actus in the upper right
Inheritance piece, the new owner didn't want to shell out so much to restore grandpa's watch, I'd say it's in better care with me.
>gold case, gold dial, black leather Helvetia on the lower right
It has an automatic ETA movement, never seen a service since it was made in the mid 70's, so it completely seized. Owner didn't want to service it (a vintage auto-ETA service falls between $50 and $70 for me depending on the movement) so I bought it, and did it myself. Handwinding is fucked and will stay fucked.

Pic related is a project left over from a Yahoo.jp lot that i found again in one of my spare boxes after moving, dial and case are great but i accidentally rekt the crystal while reattaching the rotor and closing the caseback.

Ordered a new crystal for it but that cost about half as much as i paid for the whole lot, but better than it sitting in a spare box rot. And i don't mind since i've made a pretty penny from the rest of the lot.
