Can someone explain to me who exactly are the sub-$5k watches for?

Like, if you get over $1k, but lower than Speedy, who are these watches actually marketed at? Watch guys know that there's no point in buying a non-luxury watch, and normies just buy quartz shitters, so all these ETA watches and such in the $1k-$4k range, why do they exist?

>> No.14429590

>>14429433
In the most accurate response possible, I would say to bridge the gap between entry level timepieces that are addictive to collect and mid-tier luxury watches that are a little more difficult to attain. They see an open market knowing very well that people who want to work their way up will most likely take it step-by-step and go for what they see as the next level for them. For instance, I worked my first job at 16 a few years ago and collected a few of the entry level essentials before deciding enough was enough and saved a while to buy an Omega SMP 300m. I was able to overlap a couple of different discounts and get it new from AD at almost $3,800 and it allowed me to enter the world of luxury watches from a younger age, which I appreciate. But as for lower end entry level swiss, they most likely capitalize off of the urge that every young enthusiast has to just impulse buy rather than work their way up to their true goal. For instance, I came dangerously close to settling for an Oris diver 65. Thank god I didn't, but the temptation was certainly there, and I'm certain that they have made quite a few dollars off of other watch collectors that weren't as strong-willed. The truth remains that there is a spot in every collection for every tier, I just find myself enjoying working my way towards upper level watches while, on rare occasion, buying an entry level watch that gives me that inexplicable feeling without damaging the money being saved for the next big purchase.

Yeah it's pretty crazy, all collectors vary though. Some only enjoy collecting the most exclusive watches, others feel completely comfortable never exiting the 1k mark, it's a mess but that's why /wt/ is a toxic shitfest, people hate the idea that anyone could possibly disagree with their own preferences. If I'm an affordable collector and you're a luxury collector, that makes you an idiot that overpays for what I deem to be an expensive logo and unneeded frills. If I'm a luxury collector and you're an affordable collector, that makes you an idiot who is wasting money on what I deem to be shitters. Hearing the same argument over and over gets tiring

I've learned that luxury brands that offer sports models are a little bit more truthful when it comes to water resistance ratings, a friend of mine took a datejust on several dives (weird, I know) without any issue. But when it comes to a chronograph with 50m water resistance, I highly advise you stay away from water as much as possible. Too many possible breach points in the case and too low a depth rating to trust at all. There are dive chronos out there that won't run you very much money (seiko solar dive chrono) but the idea of it just seems pretty redundant. I don't understand in what situation you would need a more precise timekeeping complication than a dive bezel yet also need dive capabilities.

Since we are voicing opinions about watches, someone please tell me why people like bronze divers. I don't get the appeal in the natural tarnishing of the metal, and I certainly don't like the thought of how they have things like stainless steel case backs against the bronze case. With a watch that is inevitably going to be making contact with plenty of sweat and salt water, it sounds like you're just begging to have your watch's water resistance fucked by galvanic corrosion. Once upon a time Seiko built a great tool watch; it had a calculating bezel, 200m wr, chronograph... and due to being quartz it had great accuracy anf a very useful alarm. Superb aviation watch, they called it the Flightmaster.

Decades later, knowing people are snob fedora retards, they remake that watch with a shit mechanical movement; making it much less accurate, reliable, serviceable and losing the alarm feature. Also makes it bulkier and more expensive for no gain at all.

Great.

Fucking silicone bracelets..
>find every patek design boring
>see aquanaut like in pic and instantly fall in love
>dislike most of the seamaster designs
>see the new one on a silicone strap and suddenly i like the new seamaster

Especially the two tone. The white gold patek looks a bit boring for me, i just like the gold one.
I was also saturated of rolexes submariner design, until i saw the new yacht master in gold on a rubber band.

It's strange, maybe i just dislike metal bracelets, but i also dislike leather ones. Even got a sand colored silicone strap for my diving watch and can't stop wearing it since then, most comfy band ever.

Indeed. I hope the industry evolves and starts improving the straps. Something like the bellows on the yacht master.
They minimize hotspots and create a better fit on the wrist. Would love to see more improvements. Or even some combo bracelet
