In a horizontal clutch, I guess a *little*, maybe on the chrono wheel itself (which has triangular teeth, rather than epicycloidal teeth, and so is getting some amount of sliding-friction wear) and I guess maybe on the canon pinion. In a vertical clutch you actually are getting wear when the chrono isn't running - a lot of old vertical clutch watches like Seiko 6139s are burned out and those that aren't are best kept with the chrono running.

When reporting the accuracy of a mechanical watch, is it the average over a few days or so? My new watch is very close to 1spd but during the day itll randomly go to like -8s and then regain the time, then go to +5 and lose it so it's back to accurate by the end of the day.

Is this typical or a sign of a problem (should I invoke manufacturer warranty/get it services or not)

It's true, when he does a monologue about a watch that he is about to showcase on his show, he has a couple of times read off of some article about said watch, instead of writing his own words about it. How big of a deal this is, I don't know. I would agree he should write his own monologues or at least credit the original writer. Right now I think TGV will stop and never do it again, because of the recent noise about it. Then you have the loser Arche who think he is going to end TGV's career by yelling to the camera about this everyday and call him rodent. That's basically the the whole drama in a nutcase.

Garage sales are and were always trash. There was a period up until the late 90s and early 2000s when *estate* sales could be goldmines, and to a limited extent they still are provided you get there the first day and are one of the first people there. The problem is the popularity of eBay turned every junk man into an eBay merchant—so every community with any amount of money has at least one—that prowls all the estate sales (as well as all the garage sales) for investments. They know all the maker's marks, they know how to spot fakes, they know what's good merchandise, and they know what everything's worth.

That alone wasn't a death sentence to the whole estate sale business, though. What wrecked it was how easy it became to look up what shit is potentially worth on eBay (I say "potentially" because most people do their searches wrong and don't look at completed listings, so they don't realize the guy asking $150 for some piece of shit won't ever sell it, whereas someone else might've recently sold one for $25).

So now if you go to those sales, the one guy in the family that's on eBay has already picked over everything and listed everything worth selling. What hasn't been listed has been marked up based on what eBay seems to indicate it's worth (whether or not it's real). Now, a few sales still have valuable shit at a low price, but not all of them. But here's the kicker: If you aren't there on the first day, that shit will ALL be gone because your competition sniffed it out. It'll be on eBay by day's end.

Garage and estate sales are even grimmer if you have something specific in mind, because they're all a grab-bag. My dad collects porcelain, for example. He used to hunt out the estate sales specifically and we'd literally drive 20 minutes to a place, walk around, see there's no porcelain, and leave. Usually we went to more than one place in an area, but it was common that nowhere had anything worth even looking at.

Bought a few Amphibias (Like pic related, it's displayed on some WUS autists site now) and sold them off, mostly since the old lady selling them had a bunch of chinkshit on display and a few nicer pieces on display. I remember her asking about 300$ for a 1 jeweled GP watch since it was Swiss, while the beat up and decent condition Amphias were like 20$ a piece.

Another place i went to check out had a lot of Swiss and USSR made watches, but he asked for quite a bit and was in no mood to haggle. He was basically waiting for some rich tourist (and the area was fitting for it) to buy one for a BS price. Might go to the broader market there and check again, i did find a couple of semi-roached 6119's last time.

One thing i have over what >>14420640 said, is that people here are still pretty retarded when it comes to selling their shit online (And English speaking in general) so you can still find some great deals if you search well enough. I've worked with a jewelry store owner that's a friend of the family to sell some of his old watches online with some success, but that only worked on some of the better stuff he had to sell, will post some pics in a bit.

>What's the watch anyway, a Sinn?
It's not, you can actually kind of explain a Sinn as a poorfag watch, because Helmut Sinn is a known figure, and the watches have a history, and you can go into that autism a little bit. They'll still look down on you for not having a "real" watch but at least you'll look like an autistic weirdo who likes weird things instead of just a regular loser (although it would still be good to have a Speedy in the collection so you can show some pictures of it or something).

Did you miss the part about the diamond coated escapement? Or the moisture absorbing capsule? Or all the other shit?

>> No.14422009

>>14421994
The part where diamond turned out to be shit and now they're using some random plastic or some shit that they won't even admit what it is?

>SINN began its research on the DIAPAL Technology in 1995 with the idea of using diamondpallets to replace ruby ones. For conventional escapements, oil is required only to reduce friction between the ruby (pallet stone) and the steel (escape wheel). In the Swiss anchor escapement, a polished diamond surface proved to be a better friction partner than the ruby traditionally used for this purpose. Lubrication is no longer required for lasting accuracy and function. However, this combination still failed to produce acceptable oscillation amplitudes without lubrication. Thus, in 1995 SINN began testing numerous other material combinations for use in watch technology, and applied for the first patents in 2000.

My mother wants to gift me a watch but she told me I should never sell it and always keep it. I think I'm going to ask for the Stowa marine classic. I'm not worried about the design or the quality of the watch, the only thing I'm not sure about is the size. I'm going to get the 36mm version with 44mm lug to lug, in theory that would be a near perfect size for me, and also a classic size that will probably never go out of style. I just don't understand why it always looks so fucking HUGE in wrist pics. Do the people in the pictures all happen to be wristlets? I don't want to walk around with a huge dinner plate on my wrist for the rest of my life. What do?
