I don't really understand how jewelry is priced. I saw a chain I really liked at a reputable jeweler for $1,600. 22 inch, 3mm, ~8-9 grams 14k yellow gold rope chain.

I really liked the chain but was suprised by the price. I figured most of the cost of the chain would be the weight of the gold. I'm sure if I ever went to sell it that's what I would get for it.

Depends on what kind of style you are going for.
Only time I have ever worn a diamond bracelet and a Cuban chain was when I went out in Miami.
I usually never wear jewelry except for a watch.
It would look out of place on me in any other situation.

Good question. If I could buy the same chain new from a retailer for $1600 or used at a pawnshop for a few hundred it would be great. I wouldn't want something that would turn my skin green though. I don't know how to tell the quantity of gold in jewelry.
