It'll take a few years, that's all I'd say. You can really space the sessions out and it really helps, like one every two-three months. I faded my solid black stomach lines to faint enough to put colour over in like a year with six sessions, but I could have done it in less knowing what i know now.

Maybe at a shitty shop, but with a good machine it's not as bad as that. It's true that as it fades they have to up the intensity and you might get some boiling on the burns (I did, just heap aloe vera gel on it afterwards and it helps). You should never have sessions close together though. From my own experience and every artist I've talked to about it: Spacing them out is the far superior option. Don't believe shops trying to block book sessions, it's just marketing. Technically once you've had it gone over with a laser once that's enough to fade a tattoo..although it would take years. More sessions increase the speed, but you have to leave your body time to actually start shifting the ink.

If you are having trouble with the pain, you can use zensa. Slather the shit on the area bout a bit before, cover it with a plastic bag/tape, then take it off before you tattoo. It numbs you as its essentially just lidocaine. The numbness will last about 2-4 hours, during which you won't feel shit.
