>What are you even talking about? The quintessential "tool watch" is a diver, and there are dozens, maybe hundreds of models of quartz divers out there. There are also real inarguable quartz tool watches out there, like the military issue Marathon ones.
There are zero quartz watches that look like the Speedy + water resistance. Back in the 60s every tool watch looked like that. So why does one single company have that design now?

We've been over this in previous threads - almost every watch, quartz or mechanical, that on first glance looks like a generic tool watch has at least one terrible flaw compared to the Speedy (and Speedy itself has the lack of water resistance).

Nice to see a Muhle Glasshute thread. The SAR is fine fit for purpose watch that I love but after saving for about two years I bought the Muhle Glasshute Lenova Chronograph.
Once owning a chronograph, I started using it a lot. Sandwich cooks in 2 1/2 mins, 15min car parks are no problem any more and it looks amazing. Very accurate, 10 ATM water resistance and 55hrs power reserve fully wound, although the papers say 48hrs.
Muhle Glasshute are a highly underrated watch maker, considering the company is about 170 years old.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Archie The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of haute horlogerie most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Archie's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Philippe Dufour life, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Archie truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Archie's catchphrase "SHITTER," which itself is a cryptic reference to Wilsdorfs description of his competitors watches. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Archie's genius unfolds itself on their computer monitors. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a ROLEXROLEXROLEX tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

He's correct though. When it comes to watches. Buy low, or buy high, but DO NOT buy mid tier.

If you arent willing to spend enough for an Omega or Rolex, then don't spend more than $300-400 tops on a watch. There's a very high possibility if you are going with TAG, or Oris or Longines you're going to want a Rolex or Omega anyway at some point and getting out of those other brands is going to be costly.

You will lose lots of money. Stick to heavily discounted Seiko, Orient, Tissot, Swatch, Victorinox, Glycine, and Certina. Tons of great watches discounted under $400.

Get a decent 3 watch collection for under $1000 and work your way up with the savings to Omega and Rolex without wasting your time on tons of mid-tier filler.

There’s plenty of wrong with all of those - all the Tags, Oris, Longines and all Hamiltons - so DO NOT get one of those EVEN IF you think you ‘don’t care about the quality’ of the thing on your wrist, because YOU WILL care after a short while. They are all CRAP within those particular brands. They all either have ‘pull to fill with water’ crowns when they should all have ‘screw down to keep dry’ crowns, or they are nasty large and with ugly edges so no one will buy it second hand, or you realize the aesthetic design is ugly.

I first heard of TAG Heuer back in the early 2000's when my older brother really wanted one. He ended up getting a two-tone 1500 (Obama's watch) from my parents when he graduated high school in 2005. I thought it was a cool looking watch, and my brother told me how TAG Heuer is for "young people" and Rolex is for "older people". Being the younger brother, I believed him (and he's correct to a degree), so when I graduated high school I got my parents to buy me a Rolex Explorer instead, so that I can feel more "serious" and "grown up" compared to him. Thanks Obama!

I would really like to see what the normie thinks about brand positioning, what's luxury, what's not, etc. And I mean something that doesn't suggest brands, so that if they don't even know about them, they can't put them into the survey to skew results.

I don’t think most people could even name 5. They would probably say Rolex and Omega, and then go for general luxury brands like Gucci. Maybe more people know Audimar Piguet due to the Royal Oak being popular among celebs but that’s about it.

Reminds me of a meeting I was in where a manager was using a sales analogy and asked people to give examples of popular watch brands. I raised my hand and said Patek Phillipe and he just looked at me blankly and was like “I’m not sure I’ve heard of that one”.
