What's bad about having pants and blazer (possibly vest) made from the same cloth? If you wear the same suit every day, yes, it can become boring. But you have lots of different options to vary: Colour, pattern, pockets, buttons, lapel size, tie (size), pocket squares. And you can enjoy not having to worry about what to wear.

>>14331059
You cannot be over or underdressed. Only appropriately and inappropriately. A suit is appropriate almost everywhere, whereas tshirt and jeans is not, really. Different viewpoint here. Probably the other way around for you.

I would say that that applies in place where wearing a suit is considered a normal and respectable thing to do. Where I'm from (the god forsaken rust belt), if you don't have a job that outright *requires* you to wear a suit most days (so you're like, the governor or something), if you wear a suit when you usually wouldn't (or you make a sudden change) every other moron within earshot will ask you "huehuegh, ya got a wedding/date/interview/funeral/etc. or something?", as if it's a bad thing. and god forbid that you answer "I just like suits" because then you're a weirdo.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Suit jackets and blazers are not the same thing. A blazer should never be the same cloth as the trousers. It is a type of sports coat which was made in bold patterns or solid colors to make it easier for audiences to tell teams of rowers apart. The buttons can even be made of metal with crests and shit on them. Have you ever seen that on a suit jacket paired with trousers?

Yes. In certain situations are jeans would just not be appropriate. Think as in: "Would a jeans (which was considered a worker's item and implicitly (?) dirty) offend the host of this situation?" Then you can nurture that thought further and can ask yourself if that jeans is really appropriate for what I am doing now? Would it offend somebody, does it make me the person I strive to be? At this point we're bordering autism levels. Not so much if the matter of discussion was a jogging pants for everyday (outdoor) use. What's really dangerous is that a mere preppy style may make you look down on others. Same with a suit. And it's really easy to fall into that trap. "Dress for yourself" is not a statement about meta-perception in absence of the context of others. It's about dressing to a style that you believe looks good, to yourself, and to do so with the knowledge that this is your goal.

The goal of this isn't some hyper-individualist fallacy, but is actually a rather complex reasoning. The basic idea, without getting into conventionalistic sociology, is that if you dress to your own idea of what you think makes you look good, interest that you spark will be originating from a more genuine place. Our own tastes are informed by a hypercomplex psychological mechanism and ultimately derived from our environment. Thus, people with similar tastes are more likely to have similar outlooks, even if their experiences differ wildly. By dressing for women, or whatever else, you are projecting a false external image, and thus attract other people seeking such behavior. A recipe for an unfulfilling experience, at the very least. When this is applied for mate seeking, I hypothesize this is the leading case of people feeling like the opposite sex is shallow. They do not attract their own people, they do not speak the other's language.

Make no mistake, you do not do anything for yourself when choosing to approach a goal. You are only meaningful within the context of a society.

Yes, we are limited to this kind of style. French collar is okay, but no suit colours other than charcoal and navy. However, there are ties with distinct small patterns (i.e.) that are forbidden. Instead it's the regular navy blue tie (with polka dots on a good day). One job even forbad me to wear a white linen pocket square, as such was reserved for the higher-ups.
