Can kind of just think about it like variations on the options. The semi-unique thing is the amount of natural curl that the hair has, but like any hair you can wreck it with heat to straighten it. I say wreck, cause the heat will damage the hair, but sometimes a look requires wavy or straight hair.

Examples
Length: Long, Medium, Short
Curliness: Tight, Wave, Straight
Weave: Loose, Woven
Part: Left, Right, None, Other
Trim: Left, Right, Back, Top

Example result: Military Acceptable Cornrolls are basically short, tight, woven, unparted, left&right&back trimmed

Obviously, there's other approaches or different ways to think about it, but this is just an example of a way I've explained when working things out with the barber and not knowing hairstyles or simply pointing to some celebrity/model haircut.
