Is thrifting based as fuck? The idea of it seems based as fuck

>> No.14297690

The staff in thrift stores are always the most insufferable art hoes in existence

>> No.14297698

I've gone to thrift shops all my life: I grew up in second hand clothes and the only items I buy new are underwear and socks.
It's starting to suck more and more now middle and uppermiddleclass normies are doing it more and more, either buying stuff while they could afford normal clothes or you have even worse vultures that search thrift shops for the few good items, put a 80 euro tag on it and sell it as a vintage in a boutique in the big cities.

Only way I'm still able to do it is because I've become friends with the thrift shop owners or church charity volunteers over the years, and they now tell me when new stuff gets in.

>> No.14297700

its based in theory, but the fact no one will ever have your size and >>14297690 can make it a frustrating experience

I mean I've been more of a wal-mart/k-mart guy, only getting decent stuff from the malls or shopping outlets for christmas or birthday. Hope I won't intrude on getting cool looking clothes from the good will.

my favorite salvation army thrift only staffs average joes and indians that worked with textiles. theyre aware hiring hipsters/artfags will cause a sudden drop in earnings since they pocket the good stuff.

>> No.14297732

>Is thrifting based as fuck?
Maybe if you travel 5 years back in time

>> No.14297739

>>14297719
Salvation army is often better than regular thrift shops, it still has the stigma of being pure charity for poor people so less arthoes or vintagefags there. It also has the benefit that often, when grampas or grandmas die their spouse or children will just donate al their clothing to the salvation army, leading you to find high quality brand preppy clothes that's been not worn out too much.
It's easiest to maintain a preppycore aesthetic if you get most clothes through thrifting as modern clothes will always be 5 years old: too old to be in style and too new to have become retro.

>> No.14297744

thriftng is for poor and low class people, no thank you.

>> No.14297765

>>14297686
Goodwill and Savers is all about having a good eye. A lot of retailer stores will dump their over stock like target. You can get really good quality for next to nothing. It's also about finding the right thrift. Don't go to ones in poor neighborhoods they tend to be more picked over and less good finds. Good luck happy hunting.

All of the thrift stores I've been to have been manned by volunteers. So it's kindly old ladies or out of work people.

>Thrifting has gotten expensive
This!

The prices at most thrift stores now are insane considering you're buying other people's junky used shit.

Every now and then you find an interesting or rare item that's worth the price but 99% of the inventory I come across is too old to be trendy, too new to be vintage and only marginally cheaper than brand new shit you can find with the same dated aesthetic.

I'm not sure how this happened. You've got increasing popularity with arthoes and hipsters over the last 10 years. But there has to be more to it because they wouldn't wear half this shit. I see a lot more suburbanite moms lately. Maybe they're the ones paying these prices. There seems to be a trend with higher pricing fir recognizable brands, I can only assume that's due to these moms. Things like Nike will be priced 10-30% higher than better but lesser known brands.

You guys hate art hoes because they wont fuck you. Here's the thing though, they WILL fuck you, art hoes know they're lower tier and they're really easy. They wear clothes to obscure their poor assets, flabby asses, bad boobs etc. Just give them an excuse ffs, stop acting like an autist, go see some awful music, and talk to them. If you know BASIC music theory you will blow their mind. This board needs to collectively get their dicks wet. Just don't expect a relationship.
