Building on the Kouros talk and its animalics:

People are very susceptible to suggestion when it comes to scent so it goes:
>some civet
>tons of civet
>some cat pee
>tons of cat pee
>Kouros smells like a urinal puck

The same thing happened with Mugler Womanity. It advertised a caviar top note, which was really just slightly briny, but a bunch of people (who may or may not have actually smelled it) ran with that and turned it from caviar to fish to pussy.

Then I actually got to smell Womanity and...it's fig with a touch of calone and some nice synthetic woods.

Only your nose can do that. Get a decant and try it for yourself. It's not like it's very expensive anyway.

The modern formulation is a great scent and is 99% of the strength and character of the first formulation. The older one has a more pronounced clove top note and was freakishly long-lasting. (The current one is still extremely potent, though.) That's basically the only change I can detect.

Has anyone noticed discrepancies between batches of Philosykos? I have a sample from Nordstrom that's super light and coconut-y which doesn't last long. can't really help then, but I can tell you my sample (also edt I'm pretty sure) smelled very green and creamy. It didn't open harshly at all, though. The coconut was pretty noticeable and contributed to the "creamy" facet. I could go down the road and test it from a different place sometime. The thing with fragrances like that is that that’s exactly what they’re meant to be. Have you ever worn them in sweltering heat? That’s what they’re for. To feel and smell fresh despite sweating like a madcunt. They’re not meant to be interesting, and they’re not meant to have depth. They both do their one job well.

Dior Homme Eau for Men has a freshness about it with depth that makes it last quite a while, but it’s not suited to high heat like DHC or Mugler Cologne.

I feel that, sucks how pricey it is just to sample. I definitely want to explore them more though, I think Elenas light touch suits my perfume preferences (t. virgin spritz)

Im excited to try some L'Artisan perfumes, i see them compared to Diptyque which is probably my favorite house.

Curious to try the figs - my only experience is with philosykos on paper. I though it was really nice but didnt pick up any fruitiness. I'm hoping they arent too fruity/sweet.

I should explore chanel a bit more for sure, I just picked up sycomore and its a new favorite of mine. Any others you can recommend specifically?

L'Artisan's great, but they definitely smell like "constructed" fragrances, like everyone else's does. with Diptyque, the scents just feel so natural to me it's as if they have access to a secret spring that issues the perfumes from the Earth itself. they aren't my #1 favorite, but i have not encountered another house that preserves the essence of their ingredients like they do. you'll understand when you compare philosykos with premier figuier

Yeah I've been recc'd the Hermessence stuff and I'm a light sprayer too. It's a good thing there are lots of affordable Ellena frags out there. Diptyque is one of my favourites too for their natural style. I haven't tried L'Artisan stuff (as my area is limited) but they're one of the niche founders with a huge catalogue and while many have moved on from them, they can be found widely at discounters.

I'm not too well versed in Chanel either but I've seen No. 19 recommended for green frags, but it's floral green (there's also stuff like Bel Respiro). Let us know your thoughts when you try everything!

>>14264436
What are some of your other fav houses? Like I said in above reply to other anon, my area is limited and I mostly explore niche via online sampling. Luckily Diptyque is available to me locally.

I must have been one of those anons.
The Philosykos EdP comes with a nice creaminess due to the coconut while Eau de lierre is as monothematic as it gets. To me it smells like the leaves, branches and plants you pile up while doing garden work. Not more than that. It's most definitely a fresh green scent, though not as fresh as an aquatic one.
L'Eau des Hesperides has more substance to it with its strong notes of peppermint and rosemary. I would rather get this one.
Eau des Sens starts with fresh hints of herb orange and subtle floral notes and progresses to a warm woody basis. Perhaps not as green and fresh as those mentioned above but still worth a try.

Slumberhouse Kiste. Yes, the cap is just a rubber sleeve. According to Josh Lobb, it’s the best way to preserve the frag. I dunno about all that, and not a huge fan of it, kinda feels cheap, but whatever. The plate is metal.

It’s interest stuff. You get a huge hit of peach, but it’s not overly sweet or gourmand. You get the tonka, you get honey, and you get some spiciness from the heather and tobacco. It’s sweet, boozy, spicy, a little smoky, but not overly so in any facet. Very well balanced. Lasts forever, too. I sprayed it on my wrists last night before bed, and it’s still fairly strong.

Where do you spray? You could try a less sensitive area. You could try spraying on clothes which isnt ideal but neither is a rash. Buy some under shirts to spray if you are gonna be wearing Ambre Sultan, so as not to stain your real clothes.

People talk about using vaseline or "canvas & concrete" to improve longevity - i could see them working as a layer of seperation between your skin and the fragrance oil.

Chergui is probably the most beloved SL frag. It's more of an up close and personal scent though, it doesn't project as much as Ambre Sultan. Santal Majuscule and Vetiver Oriental are two really good ones as well. It all depends on which notes you prefer really
