There's something to be said about the artistry behind some of them, as well as lifestyle motifs (like tribal or criminal affiliations) in other cases.
But most people who get them don't think them out, and as a result they stain their skin with banal slogans and images that don't really mean anything. Their justification is almost always "I really like it" and nothing more.

Also, you can't really translate full names into Chinese.
