I tie a plastic ice pack around my face and commence with the morning's stretching exercises. Afterwards I stand in front of a chrome and acrylic Washmobile bathroom sink - with soap dish, cup holder, and railings that serve as towel bars, which I bought at Hastings Tile to use while the marble sinks I ordered from Finland are being sanded - and stare at my reflection with the ice pack still on. I pour some Plax antiplaque formula into a stainless-steel tumbler and swish it around my mouth for thirty seconds

Then I squeeze Rembrandt onto a faux- tortoiseshell toothbrush and start brushing my teeth (too hung over to floss properly - but maybe I flossed before bed last night?) and rinse with Listerine. Then I inspect my hands and use a nailbrush. I take the ice-pack mask off and use a deep-pore cleanser lotion, then an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for ten minutes while I check my toenails. Then I use the Probright tooth polisher and next the Interplak tooth polisher (this in addition to the toothbrush) which has a speed of 4200 rpm and reverses direction forty-six times per second; the larger tufts clean between teeth and massage the gums while the short ones scrub the tooth surfaces. I rinse again, with Cepacol. I wash the facial massage off with a spearmint face scrub.
The shower has a universal all-directional shower head that adjusts within a thirty-inch vertical range. It's made from Australian gold-black brass and covered with a white enamel finish. In the shower I use first a water-activated gel cleanser, then a honey-almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Vidal Sassoon shampoo is especially good at getting rid of the coating of dried perspiration, salts, oils, airborne pollutants and dirt that can weigh down hair and flatten it to the scalp which can make you look older. The conditioner is also good - silicone technology permits conditioning benefits without weighing down the hair which can also make you look older

On weekends or before a date I prefer to use the Greune Natural Revitalizing Shampoo, the conditioner and the Nutrient Complex. These are formulas that contain D-panthenol, a vitamin-B-complex factor; polysorbate 80, a cleansing agent for the scalp; and natural herbs. Over the weekend I plan to go to Bloomingdale's or Bergdorf's and on Evelyn's advice pick up a Foltene European Supplement and Shampoo for thinning hair which contains complex carbohydrates that penetrate the hair shafts for improved strength and shine. Also the Vivagen Hair Enrichment Treatment, a new Redken product that prevents mineral deposits and prolongs the life cycle of hair. Luis Carruthers recommended the Aramis Nutriplexx system, a nutrient complex that helps increase circulation.

Once out of the shower and toweled dry I put the Ralph Lauren boxers back on and before applying the Mousse A Raiser, a shaving cream by Pour Hommes, I press a hot towel against my face for two minutes to soften abrasive beard hair. Then I always slather on a moisturizer (to my taste, Clinique) and let it soak in for a minute. You can rinse it off or keep it on and apply a shaving cream over it - preferably with a brush, which softens the beard as it lifts the whiskers - which I've found makes removing the hair easier. It also helps prevent water from evaporating and reduces friction between your skin and the blade. Always wet the razor with warm water before shaving and shave in the direction the beard grows, pressing gently on the skin. Leave the sideburns and chin for last, since these whiskers are tougher and need more time to soften. Rinse the razor and shake off any excess water before starting. Afterwards splash cool water on the face to remove any trace of lather. You should use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol. Never use cologne on your face, since the high alcohol content dries your face out and makes you look older. One should use an alcohol-free antibacterial toner with a water-moistened cotton ball to normalize the skin.

Applying a moisturizer is the final step. Splash on water before applying an emollient lotion to soften the skin and seal in the moisture. Next apply Gel Appaisant, also made by Pour Hommes, which is an excellent, soothing skin lotion. If the face seems dry and flaky - which makes it look dull and older - use a clarifying lotion that removes flakes and uncovers fine skin (it can also make your tan look darker). Then apply an anti-aging eye balm (Baume Des Yeux) followed by a final moisturizing "protective" lotion. A scalp-programming lotion is used after I towel my hair dry. I also lightly blow-dry the hair to give it body and control (but without stickiness) and then add more of the lotion, shaping it with a Kent natural- bristle brush, and finally slick it back with a wide-tooth comb.

Even if you stay indoors unless the windows have UV-A filters or the curtains are UV-protective your skin will still be affected by the ultraviolet radiation. So either install those or move to a room that has no natural light or start applying sunscreen. Artificial lights do emit some amount of UV, but at least in the case of flourescent lights those wavelengths get cut out by the coating and generally the intensity is just lower.
The next part of my post is what I posted yesterday on /fit/ and includes some links, you should find it useful in assessing the real damage sun has on you.

You will get damaged indoors as well as glass easily lets UV-A waves through. That bastard even goes through curtains.
It's even worse in cars as usually only the windshield has a UV filter while the rest the windows don't. Pic related is a driver who's left side of the face has been exposed to way more sun than his right simply due to not having UV filters in the rest of his windows. This is real long term sun damage.

It should be apparent after reading these that sun is not a friend to your skin and that there's no safe way to tan without damaging something in return. The only way ahead is to embrace paleness.

About to use Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant for the first time today. Is it true that after exfoliating, I have to wait 20-30 minutes before I can moisturize? Or can I just do it immediately?

This is where it gets tricky. On Paula's website it says that wait times aren't of much use as long as the products that follow are close to typical facial pH of around 5 or at least of neutral 7.
https://www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skincare-advice/basic-skin-care-tips/how-long-to-wait-between-applying-skincare-products.html
The "internet wisdom" however argues that because products like moisturizers may be formulated of different materials with different pH levels that said components can be affected negatively by the presence of a relatively strong acid on the skin's surface.
https://simpleskincarescience.com/ph-acid-mantle/ (this is actually a good read on the matters of pH in skincare regardless of the eventual conclusion)
It should be evident that Paula's article talks how other products may affect their acid exfoliators while the internet skincare gurus talk about the reverse - how acid products affect products that follow suit. It's like both of them are looking from different angles and coming up with different conclusions.
Anyways, in my experience 1% BHA from Paula seemed to pull out blackheads regardless if I waited or applied more stuff on top afterwards. However I haven't tested the long term effects of waiting properly to judge just how better it might be. I also got the AHA gel a few days ago so will probably do the waiting for it as well.
If you have the time it won't hurt to wait the duration before putting anything else on. So I guess applying in the evening would be most opportune.

Stopped washing my face 8 days ago.

- Day 1: Extremely oily and had some breakouts.
- Day 2: Same but less.
- Day 3: It calmed down and whatever I got before seems to heal faster than usual.
- Day 4: Starts to get flaky and peel in my t-zone, no new zits though.
- Day 5: Same.
- Day 6: Went to get a haircut, was surprised how much less red my face was looking into the barber's mirror. Washed it lightly with water afterwards though to get rid of any hair.
- Day 7: Had two new whiteheads in the evening, I blame it on the washing. They were small and less visible though since the redness of my face calmed down, and there wasn't any redness around them either.
- Day 8: They pretty much healed on their own. Still flaking.

I wonder if the flaking comes from my skin adapting to the previous routines like exfoliating once per week and overproducing skin cells to make up for it.
Let's see if this calms down over time.
So far I am very pleased with this. Especially my skin not being as oily.

Is it better to pop pimples using a needle once they come to the surface or would it be better to let them naturally fall off after they harden? What's the most sound approach?
>>14259138
Sounds like you have combination skin.
I wouldn't be so content about flakiness because that may be a sign of dehydrated skin at those regions and not just skin getting more dry. For dehydrated skin exfoliation may only be harmful and you're more ought to provide more proper hydration.

I really don't see how fasting can help with wrinkles. If you want to go at them in terms of skincare then it's best to start using hyaluronic acid, retinoids, AHAs or matrixyl or a combination of them. If your skin is dehydrated or you want a near immediate effect then hyaluronic acid is the best option when starting out. While it does fill out wrinkles remarkably well and provide moisturization necessary for restoring normal skin function HA by itself has no long term effect. AHAs can provide a longer effect by exfoliating the top most layer of the skin and also stimulate the production of collagen effectively combating small wrinkles by increasing skin elasticity. The effect isn't as immediate and can take month or more to become apparent. Retinoid provides same benefits as AHAs but is certainly stronger and the use of it can extend up to year until all of the results show up. It's the best anti-aging solution around. As for matrixyl, I'm not too sure about it but it is said to influence skin elasticity long term so should help with wrinkles. Whatever you choose, you must make sure to build a basic skincare routine around these because otherwise you may ruin your skin even more. Sunscreen is even more important because a lot of aging related issues such as wrinkles in a lot of cases are directly directly to UV exposure.

UV rays can get reflected from nearby surfaces and effectively expose the skin from below or sides. The percentage reflected depends on the material of the reflector and can range from a few percent to 50 or more in the case of snow. This applies to dispersed light in the shade as well. While the amount isn't as great as getting blasted directly in the sun, still any amount of UV is damage because skin doesn't behave normally under its effect. Of course with limited exposure you won't develop UV-related signs of aging as fast as someone who bathes in the sun so relatively insignificant amount of UV radiation in the "moonlight" shouldn't make you develop wrinkles or pigmentation.

Hey effay, I need some help with skin care. Pic related is my forehead, I wash it every morning in the shower using old spice body wash. As you can see 12 hours later my face is oily as hell, and it looked like this 3-4 hours after I was my face.

I am also wondering, the bumps you can see, if I exfoliate twice a week like it says in the pastebin link, would those bumps get removed or are those permanent now? I have blackheads all over my forehead and nose and under my eyes.

For the past week I started to wash my face again, just with water (otherwise my face gets too dry and tight), since I work in manufacturing and my cloth is brown by the time im done, I also run my hair in the shower for a min or two, to rinse out any dirt.

What can I do to improve my skin care?

>How often and when should l apply moisturizer? Should l do it after waking up? Before going to sleep? After showers?
Moisturization should be present throughout the day, so apply it every time you wash your face. For most people that's usually in the morning and in the evening, showers included. It would help if rather than using plain water you would also look into getting a cleanser with a skin-balanced pH of around 5 because tap water usually has a higher pH and can actually dry out the skin. What cleanser to pick should be based on how much stripping your skin can handle. They can be divided into three types from least to most stripping: cream, gel and foam. Even within those types cleansers can still vary to a degree.

>Is Nivea CREME a good moisturizer? "Creme" is what l've always used and l have no idea if it's as good as moisturizer or not?
Foremost, a good moisturizer shouldn't block your pores. This property is labeled as non-comedogenic. Blocked pores could result in inflamation and acne pimples. If you don't have that and if you find the texture of the cream acceptable and if your skin doesn't feel dry at any point of the day with the moisturizer still on then there's nothing bad about it. Other products depending on their ingredients may work beyond simple moisturization and account for different skin issues, say acne, keratosis pilaris, rosacea, etc. Other formulations can introduce sunscreen properties or further enhance moisturization by introducing ceramides, occlusives or humectants. Anything beyond simple moisturization will always cost more.

I think it would be smarter to just start applying sunscreen and go on with your life rather than try and shield yourself in the most ridiculous circumstances. What are you going to do next, walk with a parasol?
Sunburns are possible as well, not just photodamage or sun spots.
Fluorescent lights cut out most of the UV-A and UV-B due to coating so you should only be concerned with sun exposure either directly or in the shade or through interior glass. SPF of 30 is enough. If you're concerned with application maybe try to find a moisturizer with an SPF.
>Are their safer AHAs I could be using that don't speed up UV damage?
Don't think so! There are ones that penetrate the surface of the skin less, but even they have warnings against potential sun damage. On FDA's website all AHA products are required to list potential sun damage.

BRUH

>> No.14274580

THE STATE OF MAKEUP

>Should you avoid taking care of your skin, and instead just use makeup to cover up flaws?
No. The most important thing is to maintain a proper skincare routine. Taking care of your skin and using makeup aren't mutually exclusive, however. About two-thirds of women who use makeup products use it in addition to a separate skincare routine [1].

>Is makeup bad for the skin?
Generally not. While /some/ kinds of makeup /may/ worsen the skin, like bad formulations contributing to acne (acne cosmetica), it's less common now then used to be [2]. Rigorous animal/human testing has ruled out certain ingredients and formulations containing them. Adverse reactions to cosmetics are not common, and in a study only 6% of patients that had cosmetics-related skin issues suffered from acne specifically [3].

>Can makeup be good for the skin?
There are certain kinds of makeup that have skincare properties, and therefore shouldn't be disregarded. Concealers can be used even out skin tone and cover up semi-healed acne wounds or scars. Several products have SPF in them, and can prevent sun damage to the healing areas.

Examples include MAC SPF35 concealer, BareMinerals SPF20 concealer, and It Cosmetics' SPF50 CC cream. Correcting spot concealers (only applied in small spots) can have the same properties, such as the White Lucent SPF25 Spot Correcting Serum. Several creams like this contain added beneficial ingredients such as vitamin A/E/C/B5, omega 3/6 fatty acids, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid. They're not always added in sufficient amounts, however.

I would recommend actively covering up acne wounds/scars as well as hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation spots with either SPF makeup or regular sunscreen to prevent sun exposure to these areas. Same thing goes for rosacea.

>> No.14274584

>>14274580
>Isn't makeup "cheating"?
Not really a dermatological question. In any case you should look up the differences between no makeup and "no makeup-makeup", as very few women don't use any makeup at all, and ask them how they're treated when they're not using makeup. Most people don't know what most females around them (if applicable) or online look like "in reality". Most male models and roughly 50% of actors use makeup during movies, photo-shoots, and various public performances for a "groomed" appearance [4] - so you should keep that in mind if you compare yourself to them.

I've been visiting a dermatologist for my acne almost two years now, and while my skin is slightly better, it's still far from clear. On my latest appointment, I was prescribed tazorac gel instead of the usual tretinoin gel. Two months have passed, but I'm not noticing a difference. I still apply the clindamycin phosphate twice daily as directed.

Should I try and ask for isotretinoin/accutane? At this point I don't care about the side effects; I just want any effects. I eat healthy, I wash my hair and pillows, I spend time under the sun. But I still get acne at 23, even after using the prescribed medications.

Sunscreen performance degrades with UV exposure but the often cited 2 hour figure of when to reapply only concerns direct sun exposure. And it can actually be even lower depending on the UV index and the resultant radiation.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet_index#Index_usage
If you spend most of your time in the shade and indoors then the protection in some situations could last whole working day. At least it should be enough before the sunscreen components lose their effect completely. How much it degrades partially depends on the sunscreen materials used but generally chemical ones that are most commonly used in moisturizers and makeup are less photostable and loose their efficacy faster than physical/mineral ones. Search for Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide in the ingredient list as they are physical/mineral. Another unintended issue with SPF-added moisturizers is that the effective SPF after application may be lower simply due to how most people layer it more thinly than if a sunscreen was used separately. I think it should be pretty clear by now that if you want your moisturizer to act both as a sunscreen and last for the whole day at the office that it should include not just chemical but physical blockers as well and that you should apply a thicker layer than normal.
Here's a study of several different sunscreens having different materials and how their photostability holds up after UV exposure, both artificially high that mimics day long exposure and natural equal to the time of the exposure up to two hours:

How many moisturizers did you change before finding the right one for you? I already went through 4 and none of them seem acceptable to me. First one I bought blocked pores massively, with pimples and red rashes cropping up all over the skin. Had to change that very fast. The next two I bought I started to apply separately, one for the forehead and the other for the rest of the face. The forehead one is quite heavy and leaves a sheen and I'm not too sure if it isn't blocking pores either, but mixed with hyaluronic acid it does make the skin feel ultra smooth. The other cream has a good texture and mattifies well but the packaging feels like it was designed for spot treatment, the narrow tube only squeezes out a tiny amount of the product, not to mention it's quite dry so uses up relatively fast and for the relatively high price I'm not sure if I want to keep it as a day to day cream. The fourth one I bought is so super thick it takes an hour or more to absord so I only use it at night now. All this has been a pain in the ass honestly so I'm currently searching for something else to try. But at least the cleanser is down for good.

I'm fine and have experience with this stuff over the years also:
-The stratum corneum of black skin has more layers and stronger cells than in white skin.
-Black skin and Asian skin have thicker and more compact dermis than white skin. This is also why blacks and Asians have fewer facial wrinkles than whites.
-Black skin has more casual lipids and more moisture in the stratum corneum than white skin.
-Black skin sheds its outer layers more (increased desquamation) than white skin

It all equals to less suffering of issues.

Lactic acid is like 5-10 minutes, retin a sinks in

Papain and Kojic acid at my dosages are like 15 minutes.

It hurts and then as the skin dries it hurts more and so you have to moisturize and seal and peel off skin for two weeks.

It's worth it for me though as I have goals to get back to a uniform caramel brown after peeling away all my sunbed tanning and tropical vacations trying to be as black as possible for almost a decade.

you shouldn't require loads of products for good skin. taking long, hot showers, especially if you live in a hard water area will negate any potential 'benefit' you gain from smearing different snake oils on your face.
keep it simple:
wash your face and body with something mild if it's dirty
keep showers short (<5 mins) and cool
install a water softener.

If the water is hard it can actually dry out the skin. So a skin-balanced cleanser would be a much better way to clean it. Cleansers depending on how much their strip excess material off the skin can be separated into cream, gel and foam types with cream based cleansers being the most gentle and foam the most stripping. Gel cleansers can also range from more gentle to more stripping. Using the wrong cleanser can also dry out your skin. Cream generally are more expensive so I would probably advise you to find a gentle gel cleanser.

There are obviously more methods but I'm not really aware of them. Even dermarolling has its complexities with more shallow needles less likely to fix poor shape of the skin. Visit a specialist so he could advise best scar treatment, at home methods can only injure the skin more.

>skin usually feels tight
You have dried it out or it's actually dehydrated. If you see odd wrinkles then it may be dehydrated and that really requires treating first. Otherwise you should add a moisturizer to your morning routine because BHA actually has a drying effect, especially the liquid formulation. The lotion formulation is better for dry skin.
>>14284159
Visit a clinic. Skincare won't fix them unless the scars are recent enough, then scar creams can help.
>>14285707
What do you even mean by a toner? Typically it's refered to a pH balancer, which was made redundant by skin-balanced cleansers. However a few products that go by the name "toner" simply have various materials to "feed" the skin, a mixture of antioxidants, humectants, etc. If the former then you don't need it as long as you're not using a cleanser from the 80s.
>Could a toner also reduce slight hyperpigmentation around the eyes?
Don't see how. If it's actual pigmentation and not just some other condition then you need something that would lighten the skin over time, either directly or by inhibiting melanin production and wouldn't be harsh as eye skin is considerably thinner than other parts of your skin. It's suggested to dilute products in oils before application to the eye area as well.
>>14285887
Touching is advised against because your hands already keep touching everything around so whatever dirt and germs they pick up would be distributed on your face, potentially blocking pores, cause inflamation or infections to various degree. Additionally by touching your face you can unintentionally remove parts of your sunscreen or even move dead skin cells around and block pores with them. You just have to get into the habit of reducing your touches. It definitely isn't easy.

It's also prefered to use a sunscreen with physical blockers, they don't degrade as fast due to sun exposure and are less likely to cause irratation when compared to chemical blockers. While physical blockers do leave a white shade, it shouldn't matter in your case due to light complexion. I myself use Eucerin's 50SPF fluid though I really haven't had the chance to try anything else.

mental health

for me this is based off having terrible terrible skin at the same time of bad mental health. up until right as my i cleared my mental health up then it all went away and it nearly all instantly went away. and it wasnt like a natural just growing up hormones thing. i wont try to say it isnt hormones but the way the hormones or what ever it was was happening was through the way i was thinking it and how i was feeling. i truly think if you have bad ance your face routine is probably pretty insignificant like ance isnt some cancer mystery super insane disease. at this point i chalk it up to literally like 97% mental health and its not really healthy or natural at all to have this super crazy complex skin routine with all these chemicals. if you think your mental health is fine id suggest going through all the different diets you can find and honestly when i say this i basically mean raw grass fed liver (trust me its totally different than the meme liver has for its self grass fed animals are actually healthy thus producing a totally different liver). i dont even eat liver but im pretty sure its the best. raw foods in general are the way to go though. if you hate me at this point by the time you are reading this then just try what i heard which is not eating processed tomato products. anything like ketchup pizza sauce anything with preserved tomatoes. but then at the same time eat plenty of fresh raw tomatoes. i hope some of you all get better skin

My sister is telling me that there's a difference between mens and women's toner, asking why I bought the woman's one.
She also said it's mainly to add blush and not for removing oils, is she right or not?

guys i need help
back acne is fucking me, first thought it was hygene memes so i started showering daily, fresh shirts every day etc. that didn't solve it, so i started replacing my sheets every week on sunday mornings, that didn't help either. my shampoo might be it idk but the acne is limited to my back, no where else. i'm 21 btw so i doubt its teenager acne

what else can i do? i have tried a neutrogena salicyclic acid face wash on a loofa for my back, all that does is act as an abrasive and it just hurts to even dry. bought a bioderma acne wash and that doesn't do anything either (been using that daily for the last month and a few days ago i got new ones).

diet wiise i don't eat the healthiest but i don't go full american daily either. could be stress but i only get acne on my back.

what the fuck can i do?

Anything goes by the name "toner" these days so rather than looking at how it's named, investigate what it actually does, what the manufacturer advertises. OG toners were meant to balance acidity of the skin after cleansing because cleansers weren't really doing a good job of keeping pH in balance.

um it doesnt make my face hurt. i also only shower once every 3 days and only wipe my face down with water and piece of paper towel as face routine. and i never use unscreen and rarely use moisturizer but the moisturizer doesnt hurt. how long have you been using?

How much should I be worried about sun rays to my skin?
I live in a country with extremely strong sun during day, and I usually sleep until 12 pm or so...
Since I don't use suncreen to sleep (and it would lose the effect anyway), should I wake up earlier to protect my skin?

uh, only partially (and obviously depends on the prevalence and state of the local sebaceous units). it's mainly pus. you're probably confusing it with liquor puris.

Been doing 40mg acutane for 18 days now. Nothing significant yet, but slowly I think my body acne is getting better and actually healing from the root cause. My doctor swears that this will completely cure me of acne in 4 or so months. Only side effect is dry lips but I have read it gets more intense. My bet is he increases my dosage next visit but well see.

staying on the low dose you currently have is in line with the evidence.
no evidence-based need to up the dose. just keep at it.
according to several studies linked above you'll get equally good effect at a low dose like the one you're currently at, but with a much lower risk of bad sides. up to 70 mg/day could probably work without too much issues though.

So I was always told to wash my face with cold water because it closes the pores (as opposed to warm water opening them), but does that also hold true when using a cleanser or moisturizer? I'm thinking it might be a good idea to open them up there, but I'm not sure since I'm pretty dumb.
