the mirror lies to you because for one it's mirrored and second you subconsciously put yourself in better light when looking in the mirror

real proof would be someone taking a picture/video of you 5 meters away completely candid

it doesn't make a difference if the image is mirrored, nobody else but you can tell the difference between a mirror image and the real thing, only you have studied your face that long.

in fact, unmirrored reflections always look really bad because you're so used to perceiving your asymmetries a certain way in the mirror that when they're reflected they look twice as bad (2mm recession of your left temple looks like 4mm, teeth look more crooked, etc)
