are these brands a meme or are they legit?
what kind of people do you see wearing these brands?
which jacket models are the best?
what are the better alternatives, if any?

They don't start of as meme brands.
Skaters start wearing them because of the build quality of the clothing, they can usually withstand a bit of punishment.
But then, people see skaters wearing this shit and think "that looks pretty cool, I'm going to copy that style", then a few Instagram posts later every cunt on the planet is dressing exactly the same.

Almost every one of these "meme brands" only get popular in fashion because of skateboarders.

anon these were popularized by outdoor enthusiasts and eventually trickled into everyday wear through the increasing acceptance of casualwear in professional settings.

You're a fucking idiot
>popularized by outdoor enthusiasts
do you have any idea how stupid you sound

Shit gets popular because the right people wear it. Do you really think people would be wearing Northface (collabed with supreme), surplus family (is in every uk skateshop) or patagonia because they saw some fucking mountain climber wearing a jacket???

>not realizing multiple subcultures can influence how normies dress
the existence of skate wear being popular does not negate TNF and patagonia being popularized by whites innawoods. Also, you're ignoring how Patrick Bateman-core has been completely supplanted by the godawful midtown uniform.

I'm from the Pacific Northwest, everyone and their dog has been wearing those brands around here for the last 30 years at least. They're ok I guess. I have a light Patagonia rain jacket and a marmot hardshell. There's nothing special about them, just bland normie coats.

The same 'city people' that wear patagonia vests to their analyst jobs? Just stop anon, you really think the guys at morgan stanley would be caught dead trying to imitate skateboarding culture? These brands are just signifiers for an image of upper-middle class sporting activities, and image that is currently popular in professional settings. Just because supreme makes a fleece does not mean skaters popularized the garment.

I have some Columbia items because they're on the cheaper end of those types of clothing. It's also abundant in thrift stores near me. I enjoy hiking and could easily wear any other brand that associates itself with the activity, but those are the easiest to come by.

think about the pipeline dude. those guys are wearing it because they're ex-fratbros. why are fratbros wearing it? because skaters made it cool. frats dont make anything cool.

>> No.14192202

>>14192180
that's not the pipeline, frat kids maybe wanted to look like skaters 20 years ago, not anymore. You would be more convincing in your point if you had any inspo that supported it. If you can't understand that eventually people grow out of dressing like skaters but still want to give the impression that they are still "active", so they wear patagonia, columbia, and when seasonally appropriate, will wear bean boots.

>are these brands a meme or are they legit?
It's fucking outerwear, on a ranging price spectrum. Patagonia/TNF are more expensive, Columbia is budget. Patagonia has a whole green/good earth policy with their materials and TNF is a bit more "meme" because they've done Supreme collabs and that kind of stuff. It's all decent quality and widely available.

>what kind of people do you see wearing these brands?
I live in the Northeast, so literally fucking everyone. Probably less in other areas. Again, widely available.

>which jacket models are the best?
IMO; it depends what you want. Patagonia, arguably, makes better fleeces than the other two...but their sizing is weird especially if you're slim/thinspo. I don't think Patagonia heavy jackets are worth the cost, so go to TNF for parkas and the like. Columbia makes decent fleece as well with better sizing. Basically, you find articles that fit you well and that you like and layer them accordingly.

Patagonia: Nano-Air, Synchilla, Torrentshell, and Baggie shorts are their best products.

>what are the better alternatives, if any?
L.L. Bean is probably the closet to quality/longevity. Some people like Arc'teryx, but it's a bit overpriced.

It's primarily HIKING/OUTDOOR CLOTHING, so think about that for a moment.

Patagonia Better Sweater vests are a MEME; that shit died like two years ago when the back-office jerk-offs started copying the guys on the trading floor. Avoid that shit.

CO is absolutely a culture center, especially in 2019. Rock climbing is fucking exploding as a sport and dirtbags have been ogled by the public for years who buy like 4k worth of gear for an overnight family trip and shit.

Yes, and Retro Pile is one of the best things I've ever bought. EMS (rip) used to make GOAT fleeces; this perfect warm fleece that was water resistant and I wore it into the ground in high school. I'd kill to have another one of those.

absolute shit. The fleece is like dog hair and clumps of it will fall out everywhere you go. The polar-tec ones are much better, but at that price range why bother getting one in the military cut and color?
p.s. there is literally no way to look good in military sage green. You'll look like a dweeb and actual milfags will call you a tryhard. Just save your shekels and buy a civilian one.
